ParticipantYou put the first bit in an appropriate area in the footer – If it works how you like it then you should probably include it via your theme’s functions.php file
The second bit works in a text widget. Set up a text widget where you would like it and paste.
It translates what it can…. If there are bits that you don’t want translated you can tag them….

Participant” that multisite thing
after i installed it took away the ability to even add plugins or update my theame “
No, it didn’t. It moved them to network admin. Multisite is what you need for extra blogs – this works even without buddypress.Buddypress does not just add a theme – it does add the functionality that you;re looking for. please reads the docs.
The forums have to be enabled in the backend.
We are answering your questions – don;t post multiple time,s ,read the directions, ask when you do not understand instead of undoing things we told you that you need.

MemberOk so how do i enable blogs for my member, ok for example on ning you just drag and drop your features
where you want them, how do i do that with wp and buddypress/ i tried multi site but didnt work right.
buddpress is supposed to be the plugin that ads social network to your wordpress but when i ad the plugin
only thing it does is give metheme but the default theme doesnt have blogs forum etc like who ever did the pacakeing for buddypress should realy rethink the concept of social network. they need to add
photos, blog, forum, videos etc to the theme. Like i said im useing wp and bp to start a social network like Ning
not a personal blog, where my members can post blogs, forums, videos, photos etc.
I hope some one with intell on this setup can give me better way to do this asfor the buddy press themes
noneof them have blogs or forums in the theme. I more geared towards adding these features manually than plugins, like how dow i add blog feature for my members videos, photos, forums etc? that multisite thing
after i installed it took away the ability to even add plugins or update my theame and i had to rebuild my whole site because people cant answer simple question on this forum as how to add features for users
Please some one who understands what imean please let me know if theres a theme with allthis included…August 5, 2011 at 9:26 pm #117822In reply to: Buddypress ,photos, videos, forums, and blogs.

Ipstenu (Mika Epstein)
ParticipantYour ‘activity’ renaming issue: Does that happen when you rename the pages corresponding to *other* components, eg groups or members? How about the weird redirect thing?
No, I can rename other components just fine. I renamed register to joinsite and it worked.
I did the -R flag.
As for ‘how badly screwed up IS this site?’ well… It was WP 1.5 upgraded through to 2.8. Around the 2.5 era it had bbPress integration. At 2.9.2 I moved it to WPMU, THEN upgraded to WP 3.0 MultiSite. For 3.1, I realized I didn’t need multiple sites and undid it to SingleSite. Then I was wrong, redid MultiSite, upgraded to 3.2 and here we are. If your head spun around, don’t worry. It’s not just you!
So right now I’ve rebuilt it from the ground up, currently sans BuddyPress. Frankly, I’m pretty sure the issue is NOT BP, since my localhost site, with the same theme etc, worked just fine.
August 5, 2011 at 2:00 pm #117788cupid4
ParticipantI just did many testing after sending godaddy a message and they said it’s not of their side, I installed phpbb on my buddypress host for that matter, and tried to see how it send activation message, and for my amazement, it sent it right the second I clicked register! I tried notification message ( which being sent about 1 hour late as well by buddypress) and in phpbb topic reply notifaction it arrived in moment as well.
so I can really say that the problem is at buddypress side, I appreciate the whole work done on it though
i will try to find some solution, perhaps @enderandrew I will try theme my login now.August 5, 2011 at 1:04 pm #117785In reply to: 1.5 beta2 – Activity and member pages redirecting

ParticipantSince I forgot to test that last night… Same problems exist on the bp-default theme! Okay, now we’re cookin’ with heat.
Disabled my functions.php (renamed .txt) and the problem remains.
Stripped the site down to JUST BuddyPress and the BP Default theme, same problem.
I’m going with ‘My install is bollixed’

ParticipantThe weird thing was that with a copy of the theme it worked fine.
And the problem persists no matter what the page for Activity is named. I tried both renaming it and making a brand new page.

ParticipantDeactivate all plugins and change to WP default theme.
Follow steps https://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network
If you hit any snag during your multisite setup, please find resolution at https://wordpress.org/support/forum/multisite before installing BuddyPress.August 5, 2011 at 7:55 am #117766In reply to: Which is the best social networking tool?

Participant@greenmeanie WordPress works with any theme if you use the Template Pack.
And Mingle is dreadfully incomparable to BP.

ParticipantWell I have spent many hours testing the move from 1.0rc1 to 1.2.9 with a smaller sample of user data and it worked out fine. Some hiccups here and there but I worked it all out. This is probably more common than you think, as I understand there was a popular WordPress MU + BuddyPress1.0rc1 package back in the day.
I spend months reworking the root theme from something compatible with 1.0rc1 to 1.2.9, and now 1.5 is announced!! I sure hope a theme that works with 1.2.9 moves easily into 1.5, I made no core changes and uses the appropriate hooks, so heres hoping.

ParticipantBuddypress hates themes and gives me the most problems with the plugin.
I like Mingle but they need to start working on it again and add more options and let you turn off features you don’t want.August 5, 2011 at 3:12 am #117743In reply to: 1.5 beta2 – Activity and member pages redirecting
Ipstenu (Mika Epstein)
ParticipantYeah I figured it was a theme, so I spun up a whole new install at http://consensualreality.net/wordpress/ Activity works, member profiles works. Begin head hitting desk.
As for the bupkis thing.
When I make a new page named ‘news’ (which I had … 2 months ago, but deleted it) or even ‘whats-new’ on it’s own, the page works.
If I make that the Activity page, it redirects again.

Keymaster`/activity and individual profiles redirect.`
This sounds like a theme issue. Maybe you missed some theme files when you copied them over manually? Does switching back to bp-default solve it?
`Renamed the activity page from Activity to ‘What’s New’ (slug ‘news’) – This actually had NO effect. Didn’t rename bupkis and the /news page just died.`
What do you mean it didn’t rename bupkis? Did WP properly save your changes? What do you mean the /news page “died” – white screen, 404, or what? Did you have a previously existing page called ‘news’ (your suggestion that the page “just died” suggests that you did)?
