@ashraf something’s getting lost in translation. Are you asking how to add profile fields (https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/configure-buddypress-components/#users-profile-fields) and/or asking for a demo site which allows you to add profile fields (none public that I know of) ?

Hi,
you changed the wrong file. Never modify a core file when what you need is on the public side ! This means a template of the theme you’re using.
i said “you can search a term in the pot file”, not you must modify the pot file. This file is necessary for translation purpose and has no activity on your site. With a pot file you can generate a po file, and by saving it, you create the compiled mo file. PHP use this mo file at least.
How it works ?
– searching a word: xxx.pot file
– translating/modifying a word: xxx.po file (no T in the extension)
– saving the po file within a po editor sofware like poEdit
– saving the po file will generate a compiled format called .mo file witch must be uploaded on your server via FTP
In your case, the word “groups” you want to modify is used in these files. You will find this piece of code in your po file.

Hi. The translation is already in the plugin´s language folder. The problem is that it wasn´t working, and it didn´t start working is spanish until I moved them to the Wp languages folder (in wp-content). Only then did the spanish translation start working. Even when the spanish is displayed now in the privacy settings, the particular items mentioned are STILL in english..
Any clues?

You have 2 translation when running BP. One for WP and one for BP
And many plugins using their own mo file. In this case, the translation is in a “lang” or “languages” folder delivered with the plugin.
The wp translation is called es_ES.mo and is in wp-content/languages/es_ES.mo
The BP mo had to be in this same directory wp-content/languages/buddpress-es_ES.mo
You have also to declare your site language in wp-config.php (define(‘WP_LANG’,’es_ES’) and you have to set this, if not already done, in WP’s settings.
If all this is correctly made, all WP/BP strings should be in spanish. If despite correct settings, you have strings in english, it’s probably because you’re using a theme or a plugin with uninternationalized strings.
The template pack has nothing to do with your problem. bp-template-pack is a kind of guide to help you modify/upset non BP compatible themes. The plugin doesn’t need to be in spanish.
To find exactly where your untranslatable strings are, i suggest you to open buddypress/bp-languages/buddypress.pot and look above the word in english, the file name where the word is used. So simple as that ! 
EDIT: the concerned file is bp-themes/bp-default/members/single/settings/delete-account.php
If you use a custom theme for your install, you have to use the same path:

there is probably an error in the WP’s spanish translation. Or you use a plugin witch have an old version of tyniMCE.
Are your language settings correct ? View in wp-content and in the dashboard.
Are your plugins compatible with WP 3.4.1 and BP 1.5/1.6 ?
Debug by deactivating them exept BP and use bp-default theme during the tests.
If you find nothing, you have to search in plugins languages .po file with a text editor like notepad+ and track all special caracters and all html tags you will find in it. Sometimes > or < are forgotten by translators…
Begin pehaps by Achievements as you mentionned it in relation with profiles…
You can also try to reactivate the old BP admin bar to see if that you have the same error.
Put this in a bp-custom.php file into your plugins folder:

For translations – you need to work with language files (I assume welcome pack supports these @djpaul).

For me it doesn’t work. the upgrade totally damaged my installation… after reinstalling 1.5.7. all worked again, but the widgets and translations on my site disappeared… Any Ideas??

Importing external files
There may be the case where a validator needs to import translations from an external file (current supported formats are .po, .android and .rrc). When the file is imported, only untranslated strings will be written. Also, if the imported file contains original strings not present in GlotPress’ list, those strings will be ignored.
You can import .pot files onto GlotPress, so I don’t think that’s a problem. And, yes, of course BuddyPress needs translation. 
I am going to pick up this issue and investigate. I will update on here and on bpdevel.wordpress.com in due course.
http://i18n.trac.BuddyPress.org/ was created a long time ago – BP 1.1 i guess – for translations. This was announced on this forum by Andy.
But you’re right @djpaul, the url was never populated or mentionned since, except perhaps on Codex (de profondis). Same thing for Glotpress. I worked whith it at the beginning, but was rapidly tired by copy/pasting and some bugs.
Glotpress could be usefull in a collaborative perspective, not for a one man work. It’s faster to translate offline with poEdit. Without saying that i can rapidly jump to my archives, control the final output and so on. My browser is not a office, despite look alike sometimes.
In my point of view, the above url is the best repository for mo files, with sorted versions and fast zipped download.
FYI, the i18n exist also for wordpress https://i18n.trac.wordpress.org/browser and is really used by many translators.
I also don’t know how things proceed. I translate BP in french since 2008/12 without any instruction,, except the invite to use the i18n trac for better translation access.
That said, does BP already need translation ? The pot file is the only thing you need to proceed. Because the software is very customisable, a standard translation is not very usefull, because 3/4 of the words can be customized too, to fit a unique BP project.
JJJ says: [it was? used for] manual upkeep of translation files. Unclear if it was ever connected to GlotPress directly.
I don’t know what/how things should proceed. My guess is to migrate from that to using GlotPress, but I have no experience in this area. If you want to take a lead in working through these issues — perhaps by starting a discussion on the polyglots blog, https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/ — that would be very helpful.
I didn’t even know http://i18n.trac.BuddyPress.org/ existed. Will talk to JJJ and see if we need it. I believed all the translation to be on GlotPress now.
There are 3 core developers; John James Jacoby, Boone Gorges, and myself. We all read and reply on the forums, but we also have a team of forum moderators who have excellent BuddyPress knowledge: hnla, r-a-y, and mercime. There are many others who regularly help out on the forum. Not everyone knows everything, and if the question is extremely technical or is a “build X feature for me” post, then that person might skip over that forum topic — which is fine.
Stepping outside the forums, we have a lot of contributions from people writing tutorials, talking about BuddyPress at WordCamps and local meet up groups, people writing patches, writing BuddyPress plugins and themes, submitting/managing bug reports and enhancement ideas, writing and improving documentation on the BuddyPress Codex, writing translations, helping other users in real-time in our IRC channel… and there are probably other areas that I’ve overlooked.
Lots of people are involved with BuddyPress. Everyone can be involved with BuddyPress. And someone will get to your question as soon as possible; if no-one does, feel free to post a reply on it to bump it to the top of the list after a couple of days.

@gggamers something’s getting lost in translation. WP/BP versions? Did you go through the Installation Wizard and choose settings other than default permalink, among others? What theme are you using? Change to bp-default and check if issue is corrected.
You can add this to wp-config.php:

That will change the slug. To change the actual text that is rendered on the page, check out the “Custom Groups Name” plugin at http://hardlyneutral.com/wordpress-plugins/
