Topic: Are these Plugins Update-Friendly?
in group forum Third Party PluginsSam Steiner
ParticipantAs Andy Peatling mentioned to me in Twitter, here a list of the plugins I am using in my BuddyPress installation. Since some plugins have been known to break BuddyPress on upgrade, I would be very happy on your feedback as to the upgrade-friendliness of the plugins in this list. The ones in square brackets aren’t specifically BP so they shouldn’t be a problem.
Deactivating all plugins is a not-so-nice solution for BuddyPress, I hope the ugrade-friendliness-quality issues of plugins will be solved soon.
My Plugins:
===============
— Confirmed Update Friendly —-
Tweetstream
Facestream
BP Group Management
BP Groupblog
BP Expand Activity
Invite Anyone
BuddyPress Forums Extras (all)
BuddyPress Like
oEmbed for BuddyPress
— Not Update Friendly (crashes site) —-
Group Forum Subscription for BuddyPress
BuddyPress Album+ ( is_site_admin() doesn’t exist in WP 2.9.2 should be current_user_can(‘install_plugins’) )
Welcome Pack ( crashes on WP2.92 if BP is not active because it uses get_blog_option() )
— Potentially Future Not Update Friendly (does not crash site but needs updating) —
BP Group Documents (doesn’t crash but does not use a bp_init loader)
Enhanced BuddyPress Widgets (doesn’t crash but does not use a bp_init loader)
BuddyPress Maps (uses old method, needs updating to use bp_init loader)
BuddyPress My Friends Widgets (uses old method, needs updating to use bp_init loader)
BuddyPress Rate Forum Posts (doesn’t crash but does not use a bp_init loader)
BuddyPress Widget Pack (uses old method, needs updating to use bp_init loader)
*** Update from apeatling ****
Plugin Authors — If your plugin does not appear in the “Confirmed Update Friendly” PLEASE UPDATE IT ASAP. It’s really important as your plugins are crashing/have the potential to crash users WordPress installations when BuddyPress is updated.
This will take you less than 5 minutes to do if you create a loader.php file add the code in the link below, then just include your existing main plugin file when BuddyPress has loaded.

MemberHi Andy
Thanks for your reply.
I think the problem is the email isn’t being sent out to the new members with the link for them to activate their account.
I’ve checked everywhere including spam folder to see if the message has been received at all but I just can’t find it.
New members are being given the roll of “members”.
Could you possibly tell me where within WordPress I would set up outbound email configuration?
I’m going to turn off all the plugins (except BuddyPress) to see if there’s a plugin conflict that’s causing this problem.
Do you have any suggestions?
Many thanks!

ParticipantI have almost 100!!! (yes 100) buddypress instalations and all work fine with activation.
Try to use this plugin if you have problems with sendmail on your host: “Cimy Swift SMTP” dont forget to put the plugin on mu-plugins and not on “plugins”.
Check also if you can send emails from a mail client with the email you setup on wordpress.

ParticipantThe P2 theme has some elements of what you mentioned. It’s not a BP theme though, so you’d have to develop a custom theme. P2 is also used in the new version of the BP group blog plugin.

ParticipantYes! Finally!
Can’t wait for BuddyPress 1.3 and WordPress 3.0 to arrive!
@Xevo I wasn’t sure which forum to post in. So sorry for posing two times.

ParticipantThe same way they did before, just go to wp-admin and publish posts like you used to do.
BuddyPress only adds, it doesn’t remove any core features from WordPress.
March 26, 2010 at 9:18 am #70243In reply to: How do I change member/admin path user name ?
Andy Peatling
KeymasterThis is nothing to do with BuddyPress, hackers can just try logging in as admin on your login form and find the same thing.
Number one thing to do when you first install WordPress is to change the admin account to something else. WordPress 3.0 will allow you to change this when you first install.
You can edit the admin username in your database in the wp_users table. Change the user_login and user_nicename value.

Andy Peatling
Keymaster1.3 will use WordPress pages for navigation, so you can just add/remove/move pages around to edit the main navigation.

ParticipantBuddyPress is definately what your looking for if you need profiles inside wordpress. But you will have to adjust your theme to be buddypress compatible before you can actually fully use buddypress.

in group forum Installing BuddyPressgibbyesl
MemberI installed mu wordpress and buddypress – all with a problem
A user who creates a blog has the option to select either the default mu wordpress theme or there is the option to select the buddypress theme.
however when they select the buddypress theme the links no longer work – page not found
I am sorry if this has been answered I tried several post but could not find the answer
How do I fix this or remove the buddypress theme option?
Thanks

KeymasterThe “Are you sure” message usually means you’re having a nonce error. If you’re submitting a post or comment or some other data with your plugin, check the core code that usually handles that data and see if there’s a check admin referer in there. Google wordpress nonce to learn about how that works.

in forum Creating & Extendingfiretag
ParticipantI recently began debugging a plugin I just got done writing and I encountered a weird error/bug (don’t really know the difference to be honest).. Anyway whenever I submit data on my form it brings my to a page that says “Are you sure you want to do this?” And it has nothing else. It also gets rid of the main login bar at the top. I am not sure if this is a problem with my plugin or wordpress/buddypress, but I am thinking it is my plugin since it doesn’t happen anywhere else..

ParticipantOk I finally figured out that my username didn’t have admin rights.. and in some blogs, neither did the admin user

Now when I get to step two of the buddy press template pack I get this:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function bp_core_is_multisite() in /Users/omaruddin/Sites/waitt-amelia/trunk/wordpress-buddypress-mu/wp-content/plugins/bp-template-pack/bp-template-pack.php on line 188
March 25, 2010 at 8:12 pm #70150In reply to: oEmbed for BuddyPress plugin – out now!
r-a-y
KeymasterYou have to add support for Smugmug to WordPress’ embed provider whitelist yourself.
Smugmug offers oEmbed support so this should be quite easy.
—
You can either add Smugmug support via wp_oembed_add_provider():
https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_oembed_add_provider
Or if you can’t wait, you can upgrade your copy of /wp-includes/class-oembed.php to the latest trunk version:
https://core.trac.wordpress.org/changeset/13203
As the next version of WP will offer oEmbed support for SmugMug natively.

ParticipantThe issue is simple… bp-events is essentially the only option and there’s been a lack of communication from Erwin. So now we know. Good. Time to move on. I can now tell my organization that we have a plan going forward and that we can finally launch our site. We’ll just have to use a regular WordPress calendar instead of bp-events. Not ideal but it’s the best we can do. I’m fine with whatever… as long as I have a plan.

It should support it as it uses the same XMLRPC API. Can someone try it if it works

MemberHello I am currently running WordPress 2.9.2 and Buddypress 1.2.1
I have this plugin installed on a test site that I have and from what I can tell, tinymce shows up on the content boxes on activity pages, profile pages, forums (starting a new topic) as well as replying to a forum post. However while on the forum pages once you input some content and press post, everything works fine (minus styling to the blockquote element), even though tinymce shows up in other areas once you hit “post” you get an error saying “Please enter some content to post”.
I have tried this in Firefox 3.6, Chrome 4.1.249.1042 and IE7 so far and while Chrome and IE7 always give you the error when trying to post from any area other than the forums, Firefox will give you the error but if you refresh the page and press post again the content will post.
Would seem like to plugin does just what you want in terms of the forums area and would be fine for me if I could disable it in the other areas unless there is a fix or workaround for the other areas.
In any event thank you and good luck to those who can fix this.

Participantfyi, i installed this plugin: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/
When i used the standard php_mail option it does not work, if i use smtp mailing it works.
As mentioned before private messaging between users is sending out notifications without any problem (without plugin). Is there any difference between the mail functions here ?
