    You’ve more or less got the structure correct.

    – I don’t believe “title” is a valid attribute for li and ul tags. If your goal is to display the word “Community”, you’ll have to put it outside the tag like so:

    <li>Community...

    – I assume that your purpose is to make the Community submenu (Activity, Members, etc) a dropdown menu that is invisible except when you hover over the header Community. That’s a CSS issue. I recommend you find a WordPress theme (or any website, really) that has such a feature, look at the source code and especially the CSS, and emulate the necessary rules. You could also check out a tutorial, like the “horizontal” menu bar described here: http://www.seoconsultants.com/css/menus/tutorial/.

    Good luck!

    I first of all want to say that I support Erwin all the way in what he is saying as I know that the effort involved in getting a piece of decent code out there is huge and doing it all for free is a big ask. This is especially so when such code could quite happily be used in commercial organisations who most definitely will charge for the services that they provide.

    It seems to me that the eco-system surrounding a product like WP/BP is one that we are still coming to grips with but in essence it seems that there is a move to basic functionality/service for free and that additional usage/features will attract a fee. According to the Mashable review of the recent talk by WP Founder Matt Mullenweg this is how Automattic supports its operations.

    So why should a plugin developer not expect the same? Perhaps the future of such development should be along the lines of groups of coders providing a freemium type service so that there is a basic level of functionality and you pay for the extras.

    Andrea , I don’t think so, have latest versions of wpmu/bp and downloaded latest version I can find, for instance buddymatic is https://wordpress.org/extend/themes/buddymatic and the auto install on wmpu. This is the same for Sense and Sensibility, btw. white screen o’ death

    Hi :D

    The details are as follows:

    • WordPress Version: MultiUser 2.9.2
    • BuddyPress Version: 1.2.2.1
    • Theme: Avenue K9, Michael Kuhlmann’s B2 Theme Pack (Theme works fine)
    • I have used WordPress for a few months only.
    • I am a BuddyPress newbie.
    • I know some HTML.
    • I do not know PHP at all.

    Hi again :D

    I really need urgent help in editing /wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/header.php as I am in a hurry to meet the deadline.

    I want to move the Activity, Members, Groups and all the other BuddyPress links into a list item called “Community”.

    If that is possible, please let me know how to do it (my code is shown below, which doesn’t work), if not, please recommend a theme that I can acheive this functionality with, be it a Buddymatic theme or not.

    To give you a better understanding, my sitemap is shown below:

    • Home
    • Community

      • Activity
      • Members
      • Groups
      • Forums
      • Blogs

    My code (which of course does not work since I’m a newbie) loooks like this:

    <div id="header">
    <h1 id="logo"><a href="<?php echo site_url() ?>" title="<?php _e( 'Home', 'buddypress' ) ?>"><?php bp_site_name() ?></a></h1>
    <ul id="nav">

    Hi,

    I recently tried to install buddypress latest (as of today) buddypress.1.2.2.1.zip

    But it said I needed to upgrade WPMU 2.9.2 at least

    So I did that, I tried deactivating all plugins no difference.

    But nothing i do is firing the bp-loader to even be detectable in the plugin list.. I even added bp-custom and specific blog id. I have never gotten a chance to click activate.

    I’m only accessing the blog specifically that I want to activate buddypress on. I do not want to activate it on the root blog, hence why I also added bp-custom.

    I am concerned that maybe my upgrade didn’t work properly or fully yet? I don’t see any errors in the error log except Negotiation: discovered file(s) matching request: /Users/XXX/Sites/YYY/trunk/wordpress-mu/index.html (None could be negotiated)., referer: http://ZZZ/wp-admin/plugins.php

    Also I tried adding die() commands through every file in the buddy press core plugin folder, but I didn’t see a white page… It’s almost like it just ignores buddypress altogether. I was able to see and activate the buddypress template pack plugin just fine…

    Please help!

    I appreciate any insights anyone might have… it really shouldn’t be this mind boggling :)

    i have updated the development version again to 1.6b3 which now includes RSS Feed for public group forum topics and topic posts.

    also included a few extra functions which require theme edits but give a little more bbpress feel

    Link the freshness time_since to the last post

    edit theme /bp-default/forums/forums-loop.php

    Change:

    <td>
    <?php bp_the_topic_time_since_last_post() ?>
    </td>

    To:

    <td>
    <a href="<?php echo bp_forum_extras_topic_last_post_link( 15 ); ?>"><?php bp_the_topic_time_since_last_post() ?></a>
    </td>

    Note: 15 per_page is default for bp_has_forum_topic_posts – you may need to change this if you use a different per_page in the loop.

    Add pagination next to topic title

    theme edit /bp-default/forums/forums-loop.php

    After the topic title, Add:

    <?php bp_forum_extras_topic_page_links( 15 ) ?>

    You may pass additional args – refer to paginate_links codex

    if you would like to test it out… grab the download from ‘development version’ at:

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-forum-extras/download/

    You can try purging blog posts from the BP activity table and then using the following plugin by Boone Gorges:

    No, Its a wordpress theme that I used the template-pack plugin to make it a BP theme. Everything works and is fine.. Its the item-header-avatar on the /members/user/activity/ page.. You CAN see the same image on the default BP theme.

    I only want to remove this from that specific page and not all the related pages (maybe on a few other specific pages but that might be an after thought.

    BuddyPress doesn’t create any pages (at least not in the current version).

    It should be safe to use the BP Template Pack plugin.

    But, as always, make a backup of your filesystem and your database just for safety measures.

    Also, before making any changes on your live site, you should have some type of development site so you can test things like BuddyPress on it without worrying.

    Thank you so much I’ve a last question:will this BP Template Pack create a social network ? I mean is it possible to keep my pages in one hand and create a social network where users will be able to discuss?

    Thank you again

    @etiviti – cheers for plugging the plugin :)

    Any news on getting the buttons enabled with my plugin.

    Also my plugin uses standard bbcode (the _CK_ buttons use [*] for list items, whilst mine use [li] ) – reason being is that [*] is not picked up by the wordpress API :)

    If you need any help I’m sure I could get _CK_s buttons in for you.

    Cheers

    Yes, you need to install BuddyPress first.

    https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/setting-up-a-new-installation/

    Then you can try enabling your current theme and using the BP Template Pack plugin.

    Try the BP Template Pack plugin – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/ – to use BP with your existing WP theme.

    BP will not delete your posts or pages.

    Hello,

    I was wondering about something. I’ve recently created my website with a WordPress Theme. I have already written some post. Then I’ve seen this amazing the Buddypress Plugin and I would like to add it to my website.

    But I dread this plugin could delete all my post and my pages. Am I right or can I add Buddypress on my site without deleting everything?

    Also I would like my Buddypress to have the same font and color of my theme. Is it possible? How can I do that?

    Sorry my very bad English, I don’t now if I was enough clear (I ‘m french^^)

    Thank you

    1) Avatars – users can upload their own avatar. Please check out testbp.org for a demo of BP.

    2) Use the BP Template Pack plugin – https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-template-pack/

    Be sure to go through all the steps in the plugin.

    3) Go to testbp.org and try the group forums yourself. If you want a traditional forum script, use bbPress, vBulletin, phpBB, etc. BP is not a forum script – it’s social networking in a box!

    Found a much more better solution:

    Use this plugin: Force user login https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/force-user-login/

    Use this other plugin: http://wpmututorials.com/how-to/custom-branded-login-screen-for-wpmu/ and all done!

    I’m trying to wrangle The Holy Scripturizer into auto-linking Bible references in my BuddyPress activity stream, using the add_filter() function to add the custom filter to the bp content functions. I have no idea what I’m doing wrong. Help!

    You can see my code here.

    This is an out-of-the-box copy of The Holy Scripturizer, which you can find here.

    I have simply added lines 1040 through 1045. The code doesn’t throw any errors, but it also doesn’t work as intended. You can see it in action here.

    What am I doing wrong?

    Hi BP people,

    i want to warn you against wp-contacts-directories plugin. This plug is recently updated and works with WP and WPMU/BP…. If you already use it, uninstall it.

    If you know what you do, take care of it because this plugin contains many security holes (for ex. extract($_POST);…) and a spy code line 556 to 562 who contains something like this:

    $res = file_get_contents("http://ahlul.web.id/tools/plugcheck/?n=$n&h=$h&m=$e");

    in another if statement, line 577, we find :

    $output = file_get_contents("http://ahlul.web.id/tools/plugads/wpcontact.php");

    This is illegal as far as i know…

    Anyway this is a perfect example of what not to do in matter of security, php and open source coding.

    Of course i also post this on the WP forum.
