    Due to a barrage of requests to release this plugin for 1.2 as soon as possible, I am calling a feature freeze for the 0.3 branch and urging as many people as possible to test this release candidate for a quick run so I can tag it final within the next couple of days.

    I had hoped to get some more features into this release, but I will just push them into 0.4 and try to get that out soon.

    In this release:

    * Activity stream fixes

    * Removed redundant “Home” link from link list

    * Updated support for many changes in BP 1.2-RC3 and later

    * bp-links.php is now bp-links-core.php

    * Major overhaul of how we hook into the dashboard

    * Added a basic widget based on groups

    * Replaced custom elapsed time function with bp_core_time_since for continuity

    * Numerous other bug fixes

    Here is where to download 0.3-RC:

    *** It REQUIRES PHP5.2 or higher, WP 2.9.1 or higher, and BuddyPress 1.2 Final ***

    http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/buddypress-links.0.3-rc.zip

    If anyone is interested in updating the translations, here is the .pot file:

    http://plugins.trac.wordpress.org/export/207256/buddypress-links/trunk/languages/buddypress-links.pot

    As usual, please post all bugs and feedback to this thread.

    Just installed the bp-groupblog plugin in version 1.1.3. Sweet!

    I had to add this to the top of bp-groupblog.php though:

    /*** Make sure BuddyPress is loaded ********************************/
    if ( !function_exists( 'bp_core_install' ) ) {
    require_once( ABSPATH . '/wp-admin/includes/plugin.php' );
    if ( is_plugin_active( 'buddypress/bp-loader.php' ) )
    require_once ( WP_PLUGIN_DIR . '/buddypress/bp-loader.php' );
    else {
    return;
    }
    }
    /*******************************************************************/

    I may have had an older version of the plugin…

    I started this thread to keep track of my experiences with this plugin, post comments and ask questions. There are several other threads about this plugin out there, but they’re getting a bit confusing.

    Is it possible to use the group blog as a replacement for the group wire? Any downsides?

    Is it possible to add a quick posting field on top of the group’s main page, so the group blog becomes a more Twitter-like microblogging tool? Has anyone done that?

    Would using the group blog in combination with FeedWordpress syndication work? Mix external RSS feeds with group posts?

    Would it be possible to let group members enter those external RSS feeds?

    Going to try these things…

    Will this plugin be updated for version 1.2?

    bbPress has a hover link to view a member profile page from the bb-admin users section. I somewhat miss that little feature in WordPress + BuddyPress 1.2 so just a quick code snippet to add the link:

    function user_row_actions_bp_view($actions, $user_object) {
    global $bp;
    $actions['view'] = '<a href="' . bp_core_get_user_domain($user_object->ID) . '">' . __('View BP') . '</a>';
    return $actions;
    }
    add_filter('user_row_actions', 'user_row_actions_bp_view', 10, 2);

    not sure if this was covered before as search didn’t turn up much – but I find it useful on the wp-admin side when searching on users (only tested on Single WP)

    wp_ tables are WordPress/MU’s, and wp_bp_ are BuddyPress’.

    On WordPress 2.9.2 with BuddyPress 1.2 I can’t upload an image to change the group avatar. Am I the only one to have this issue?

    I’m looking to do the same things, so maybe I can be some help. :) For now, I may be putting the avatar moderation on back-burner and focusing instead on removing gravatar support. The low-tech solution is to delete the user’s avatar from the server.

    Gravatars don’t make a lot of sense on BuddyPress, since they are stretched and look blurry on the member pages. There’s a plugin that disables the gravatar for WPMU & BP: https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/disable-user-gravatar/ Haven’t tried it with BP 1.2 yet.

    Did you test BuddyPress before with just the default theme and no plugins? Did you have it working with the default (bp-default) theme before you switched to your theme?

    Either way, the first thing I would do now is disable all plugins except BuddyPress.

    Next, I would switch the theme to back to the default (bp-default) within Appearance > Themes in your dashboard.

    Once you disable all plugins (except BuddyPress) and switch to the bp-default theme, you should confirm that the theme is working similarly to testbp.org.

    Assuming that everything is working and you are not seeing any error messages, switch the theme back to your custom theme before you re-activate any of the other plugins. Check to see if you are still seeing an error message.

    If you are, double-check steps 1,2,3 at https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/. (1) Make sure you’ve put the theme extension pack in your custom theme. (2) Make sure you’ve added the following line to the top of the functions.php file for your custom theme:

    include( TEMPLATEPATH . '/bp/bp-functions.php' );

    (3) And make sure you’ve added the “Tags” line to your custom theme’s CSS header.

    Do you still see the error message? If so, try replacing the code you added to the top of your theme’s functions.php with the code as Andy suggested:

    include( STYLESHEETPATH . '/bp/bp-functions.php' );

    Check for the error message again.

    Once you have BuddyPress functioning using your custom theme without any error messages, then you can try activating plugins one-by-one to ensure you can identify any conflicts.

    P.S. You mentioned in #10 above that you had modified the core files by adding the functions line of code to the functions.php file. Just to make sure, the core files are in wp-content/plugins/buddypress/. You should not be modifying any files or folders within the core files. All of the customizations you need to make to adapt your custom theme should be within /wp-content/themes/your-theme/ which I believe for you is /wp-content/themes/wp-clear-basic/. So you are adding the theme extension pack within your theme’s folder at /wp-content/themes/wp-clear-basic/. And you are modifying functions.php and style.css within your custom theme’s folder only.

    Does this plugin work for version 1.1.3? Or are there other versions and hacks floating around that work?

    I’ll try after coffee…

    No, I even tested the default theme. It still has the massive error codes. But there are no really dynamic themes out there for buddypress/wordpress pages, so i figure since 1.2 is new to regular wordpress then it may just take some time. I can be patient.

    Cool, I ‘m sure that’s the problem. I’ll check it out.

    Andy is right…I’ve tried about six or seven themes and the issues are largely tied to the ‘content’ div not matching up, although I have at least one theme that doesn’t recognize the admin bar. Very good start though!

    …I just don’t see the sense in BuddyPress needing to treat usernames in a different manner than WordPress does. It smacks of a questionable design decision, that’s all.

    Regardless, I’m not getting this problem in BuddyPress 1.2 it seems…

    …although in BuddyPress 1.2 I’m getting “There was a problem posting your update, please try again.” everytime I try to do anything, but that’s a different story. =)

    @armandmorin – it’s more than likely either the “container” or “content” div in your WordPress theme. The BuddyPress template pack uses:

    [header]

    <div id="container">
    <div id="content">
    [content]
    </div>

    <div id="sidebar">
    [sidebar]
    </div>
    </div>

    [footer]

    If your WordPress theme doesn’t match this, then there are about 6 or 7 templates (mainly members/index.php groups/index.php etc etc) that you will need to tweak this html layout in to match the one used by your theme.

    Once you have it matched, then the content should sit in the correct place and not break the layout. If you’re using a theme with this HTML layout, then you should be fine off the bat.

    That’s pretty much how to do it. You have to go thru the BP files you added to your theme and change the markup to match your WP theme.

    @geoffm33 – ah yes I can instantly understand why. You can tell my test sites don’t often exceed 20 users! Sorry for this and I will get a fix out this evening.

    And the delete_blog_option – I’m actually blaming this on BuddyPress as it has missed this function from its regular WordPress compatibility files. Again fix out this evening.. thanks very much for the feedback, it is appreciated.

    I’ve tried this on two standard WordPress themes and it breaks the CSS in the theme each time at the content section. any ideas on this?

    These are the directions I used.

    BP isn’t remotely accessible – you need to load the PHP files. I do not have a working knowledge of Flex but I suggest you look into WordPress/bbPress “deep integration” and find out which files in the bbPress theme header are included to bring in WordPress.

    We need to version that .zip otherwise we are going to have to wade through hundreds of confusing topics in future BP versions.

    Note: As of BuddyPress 1.2, this is less of an issue, as the default theme (similarly to most WordPress themes) only comes with a single sidebar

    That looks like what everybody needed :)

    Great, the zip is filled with loads of .tmp, .svn, _MacOSX files though (346 files in 187 folders!). Andy/whoever made it, maybe it should be repackaged?

    Also, the instructions on https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/ are a bit confusing; if somebody got it working, maybe they can edit the documentation with some example codes?

    Hi,

    Using BuddyPress on WordPress, I have a Flex application running in a page (using the SwfObj plugin for WordPress).

    How can I add new activity events for the logged user from within the Flex Application?

    Thank you in advance,

    LiF

    So I have a custom theme for wordpress 9.1 and I was looking forward to BuddyPress 1.2 for a long itme. I downloaded it, followed theinstructions to make my theme compatable but I found that there were a few issues.

    1) My default avatar system is Gravatar, and even allowing users to upload their own avatars got me this annoying GIANT error code above every avatar – [phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /home/clanfan/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-avatars.php on line 345: Missing argument 5 for bp_core_fetch_avatar_filter()

    2) It also does not allow you to register for the site for some reason.

    3) Once a group is created, the option to create a new group disappears.

    I need a dynamic theme like the one I have until I can make a new one, so a) are there any fixes for these issues anyone knows about cause they have them too or b) is there a great place to get buddypress themes?
