1. AMU is a plug-in called Add Multiple Users which https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add-multiple-users/ It enables a CSV import of users. [Sorry for not being clearer in the OP].2. Users added manually – ie using the WordPress new user screen – and users Registering using the front end – work fine in BuddyPress – [both those entered before and after doing the CSV import with AMU) ie the user has a profile page and can edit it.
3. All the users imported using AMU have all fields complete including first, last, nick and display names. The only empty fields are www, jabber and AIM.
4. Users from both the CSV import and the manual user added from the Users_Add_New_Screen screen are added to a BP groups using @boonebgorges‘ Buddy Press Group Management plug in. All appear in the group member list (and all members lists) but the ones bulk entered using CSV file do not have profiles.
I’m going to try doing another import and see if I get the same result.

ParticipantI’ve read the details at codex.buddypress.org and tried the “tests” for correct WordPress install.
They all seem to work.I also read: `”WordPress should be installed manually i.e. via FTP, cpanel, etc. and NOT via webhost scripts (fantastico, softalicious, etc.)which bring about numerous issues when BuddyPress is activated.”`
Apparently I’m off into “various issues” land. Are these issues listed anywhere? Since my WP seems to pass the listed tests? What else could be going on?

How would I clone or replicate my local install to my hosted server?
I know that I can SCP or FTP the files from the web site folders, but then how do I deal with the required database files and supporting parts?Learning,

I’ve contacted my hosting vendor to discover how to best proceed with the corrections you suggest that I need.

Participant@newmember01 you need to install/activate the BP Template Pack plugin to make your WP theme compatible with BuddyPress. Then you have to go through the BP Compatibility Process. Participant@sb0n Based on the HTML structure of your theme, you need to change 16 template files within the 6 BP folders transferred to your yoko theme folder in server during the compatibility process.

Participant@Virtuali — thanks your comment worked for me — I was having the same problem as @cmroybal. Reinstalling wordpress would have been awful. I did have to uncheck enable forums for that specific group though and then re-enable it after deleting the specific group forum file in the database. Thanks a bunch!

ParticipantI am not trying to search through the activity. I want the search field to search through the main site’s blog posts. However again the search simply refreshes the main page which I have set to the Site Wide Activity page. The search no longer displays results.

ParticipantIf your trying to search activity, I use this (https://github.com/sbrajesh/bp-searchable-activity) which adds an “activity” option in the buddypress dropdown search.

ParticipantO.K., I finally figured it out myself. So in case you came across this thread in search of a resolution, here it is…
Edit your .htaccess file on your server. This can be done by manually editing it via FTP or with the Yoast SEO plugin directly in WordPress (which is obviously easier).
Put the following code in .htaccess file. If you don’t know where or how to insert the code check out http://www.squidoo.com/301
Anyway, in the code below, I’m redirecting only http://www.YOURWEBSITE.com/members to a location of my choice. In this case, I’m redirecting it to my homepage, but you can choose any location you like. Make sure to leave the ^ and $ or else it will not work properly. It basically tells the redirect to only move that single URL and nothing else associated with it. That way when a user enters a group, they can still see all of the members in that group. Here it is…Enjoy!

InactiveWhat do you need the profile fields for? Seems like WP_User_Query would do the job perfectly.
https://codex.wordpress.org/Class_Reference/WP_User_Query.If role is stored as an xprofile field, you might want to look at BP_User_Query. Haven’t used that class yet, but it might do what you want.

ParticipantIf it’s just first and last names for your drop down – you can fetch those from the default WordPress fields / calls.
Is ‘role’ stored as an xprofile field or are you mapping across to WordPress roles? If the latter, you should also be able to achieve with the built-in WP functions.

KeymasterWhat is AMU? Some type of import script? If so, make sure that the FIrst Name and Last Name is filled in when importing the user and BuddyPress should pick it up.
To test, try adding a new user from the WP Users screen:

Do not use webhost instant WP scripts as they have been problematic for BuddyPress as well as WP Multisite installations -> https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/before-installing/#system-and-server-requirements
Backup DB and server files, then start from scratch. Drop DB, upload WP manually via FTP and intall WP.

ParticipantI read here: http://bpdevel.wordpress.com/2012/06/19/buddypress-1-6-beta-1/ that BP 1.6 is supported on WP 3.4+. I had 3.3.1 installed (the one that’s in the Ubuntu 12.04 repositories). Upgrading to 3.4.2 fixed the issue.

ParticipantOne solution would check the mod_rewrite module in Apache is on. This deals with the permalink problems.

Yes I’ve read your post a couple of times and the tips and responses.
I am not using DAP. I get the same result logged in as a user or administrator ie– users added directly into WordPress after BP installation show up under their not very friendly username; they have no
– users added before BP installation show up with display name, have profile pages and prior existing meta data shows up on profile page.Anyone have an idea? @mercime?
[I note in the OP I said “When logged in as one of the new users:” – this is confusing and should be ignored. I thought for a moment there was a difference in behaviour between admin and new users but there is not.
