It turned out to be an issue with my theme and not Buddypress. Even though the latest version of WordPress 3.6 is theme compatible, the Buddypress to Suffusion theme still required the Suffusion Buddypress Pack plugin and a child theme to make it work.
All fixed here.

There are no ‘future events’ in buddypress itself so it would need a plugin or custom programming…..

https://wordpress.org/plugins/events-manager/ supports buddypress but I haven’t used them together!

I am having the same problem. I am using Suffusion theme with the latest Buddypress 1.8.1 and WordPress 3.6. Specifically Widget Logic no longer works with Buddypress. When I uninstall Buddypress it works fine but when I reinstall the latest Buddypress the Widget logic no longer works.
I am ok to switch to a different plugin to control widget display if someone has tested one that works with the latest Buddypress.

Thanks, @danpb. It looks like that worked, although the feed is not detecting an image. We are using RSS Multi-Importer to pull in feeds for this page: http://www.tafaforum.com/tafamemberblogs

I added the feed as you suggested and it pulled our last post (Selling on Etsy), but no image. When I registered the blog using http://www.tafaforum.com/blog/, it pulled all of the activity stream into this page.

I checked the jetpack version that is connected to my WordPress.com reader and it’s pulling everything over there. Does that mean that when people sign up for the blog, they are getting the Activity Stream posts, too?

I was able to register your forum version on Networked Blogs and it looks like it is just pulling the post (with an image): https://www.facebook.com/TAFAList So, that’s great.

Hi,

I have two questions that are related.

Are there any free plugins that allow you to upload images and video from your phone?
I have tried rtMedia to no avail.

We also have tried Activty Plus, with success when uploading pictured, but we are not allowed to upload video from a phone.

Without further ado

1. Is there a plugin that allows you to upload a video from your phone into activity?

2. Is there a plugin that allows you to upload a file (doc, pdf…) into activity?

Any answer is much appreciated

Sounds like you are using an old / outdated plugin with a recent version of BuddyPress.

Hello everyone, I have got a fix for this. Are you using WordPress SEO by Yoast? If you are using this plugin, go to Permalinks, and uncheck redirect ugly url to clean ones. That will fix the problem for you. It fixed mine! This note is from the plugin author: People make mistakes in their links towards you sometimes, or unwanted parameters are added to the end of your URLs, this allows you to redirect them all away. Please note that while this is a feature that is actively maintained, it is known to break several plugins, and should for that reason be the first feature you disable when you encounter issues after installing this plugin.

HI! I manage a site with 400+ members who are students of a course. The site owner/teacher would like to be able to block anyone from sending her private messages. We want all the students to be able to PM between themselves, but just not to the teacher.

I’ve looked at this plugin http://etivite.com/wordpress-plugins/buddypress-restrict-messages/ but that would require her to unfriend all the members, or to ignore any future friend requests – which she doesn’t want to do as that sends a negative message.

Is there a way to achieve this? I’d appreciate any suggestions or ideas. Thanks!

The BuddyPress team should be able to give you a better answer, but one thing I came across while deciding about whether to use BP or not was that in the UK the Daily Telegraph’s user section is based on a custom version of BuddyPress and, a year or so ago, was reported to have around 150,000 users, which at the time was thought to make it the biggest site in terms of active users.

Since then BuddyPress 1.7 re-engineered queries to make them much faster when working with large DBs.

I would have thought that if you get to a position where you are pushing the boundaries of what BuddyPress (and WordPress) are capable of, you should have the resources to invest in optimisation/customisation as required.

All this assuming, of course, you are doing everything else possible to improve performance and are not running your mega-site on some cheap shared hosting plan.

just started few wordpress sites. Now, I’m thinking of creating a community/portal for my location. Honestly, online directory here is poorly utilized, meaning basic information such as finding clinics, available apartments, specific stores, even the common where-to-go-if-you-want-to-eat-blabla.

Facebook is mostly overused. People here post their items-for-sale, their new clinic, lost-and-found stuff, missing person, name it. My point is, one has to log in to facebook first, just to find places, or basic information, when one can just surf and log into a portal which can provide these without the “blings” of facebook.

So, I’m looking into tools that will help me achieve this. I’ve had years of programming experience, but I’m looking for tools which will allow even the non-technical people to at least administer the site.

So here I am. My question is, with my goal of having some sort of city portal, or business directories, even providing local services such as public announcements, flood-warnings (I’m in a flood-prone area), and things i mentioned above, can BuddyPress, and some plugins provide me these?

From a brief review, I think it can, but your ideas are welcome! Thanks!

Hi,

I have 91 members/participants of my site (see image below) but according to the ‘Members’ section on my homepage there are only 20 members (link here http://www.whichinvestmenttrust.com/members/ ).

I have BBPress forums activated and I wonder if there is a conflict or disconnect between them and Buddypress? I think the Members function/page/section I’m not sure what to call it comes from Buddypress rather than BBPress (though I’m not sure what the difference between BBPress & Buddypress is).

I have spent around 16 hours trying to resolve this but I cant. Do you have any suggestions?

As an aside I can’t access the Dashboard or BBPress or Buddypress. I get this message ‘You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.’

I have a plan build a website for Catholic community in my country. I love wordpress and Buddypress, and i have a question Can I use wordpress and Buddypress for this?
Now Database is small but in the future it’ll very big because i allow my member write blog, and Docs, WiKi, Question and Answer plugin.

Hello,
Does Buddypress allow users to create and share their favorite “posts” by making a “playlist.” I have about 2200 video posts that I would like users to create their own playlists.

I have not installed Buddypress yet. I’m already running a different WordPress theme. Will Buddypress affect any of the settings? I don’t want to change the design of the site.
