I think I need to ‘play’ with BuddyPress a bit more to get to know it better 
Backticks are like apostrophe’s slanted backward looks like this “` and you need to put a backtick before and another backtick after the code – like the page.php – for that to show up in forum webpage.

That’s not the file you need to change if you want BP compatibility.
If you have gone through the BP Template Pack process, the pages you need to change are in folders which have been moved by the process to your active theme’s folder as listed here: https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#revise-templates
So per list above, the file you need to change is the forums/index.php file

You do need a working knowledge of HTML/CSS at least to effect the necessary changes. If you cannot do it at this time, you might want to wait for BP 1.3 where BP components are rendered in your regular WP theme if BP is activated. Or in the meantime, you could create a child theme of the bp-default theme (here’s how to https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/ ) and use that first.

Well, as of now there is no such ready made arrangement for the same but Andy has worked on an open source plugin that gives BuddyPress Features into WordPress theme.

Run Settings > Permalinks and set to other than default i.e. pretty permalinks is a must. Double-check WP configurations and if you have a problem there, resolve it in WordPress.org forums before installing BuddyPress.

You do not move BuddyPress plugin folder/files around in your server at all. You can install BP in either of these two ways:
1. auto install via dashboard menu Plugins > Add New > BuddyPress then network activate. or
2. Upload buddypress plugin in wp-content/plugins/ folder in your server, then go to dashboard to activate BP
After either #1 or #2 above, Install a BP-compatible theme like https://buddypress.org/extend/themes/ and you’re good to go.
BuddyPress is a WordPress plugin and not a separate application. BP shares the DB of your WordPress site. And yes, BuddyPress can be installed in single WordPress.
If you upgraded to WP 3.0.5 via dashboard auto upgrade, do a manual update via FTP or cPanel
