KeymasterIf you can’t check your logs or turn on error reporting then fixing this will be like finding a needle in a haystack.

ParticipantI did check the mu-plugins folder (it’s at 755) and it’s in /wp-content.

ParticipantDid you check the permissions of the actual mu-plugins folder? Is the /mu-plugins folder in /wp-content?

ParticipantWhen I type my domain, nothing comes up as long as the mu-plugins directory is there. Once I delete it, I can see the WordPress blog (but then I don’t have the buddypress stuff and themes). I don’t know how to check the logs or how to turn on error reporting in Php

KeymasterPlease check your logs, there is no such thing as a blank screen. You can also turn on error reporting in PHP. Once you know what’s wrong, it’s usually simple to diagnose.

ParticipantHere is the file from my error logs.
[Thu Jan 29 22:11:54 2009] [error] [client 24.19.248.43] mod_security: Access denied with code 403. Pattern match “\\.php\\?(([a-zA-Z0-9\\-\\_\\.\\[\\]]*)=(http|https|ftp))” at REQUEST_URI [id “6600001”][rev “1”] [msg “Hsphere Rules 1: experimental rule for most php application attacks. Report false positives”] [severity “CRITICAL”] [hostname “support.mysite.net”] [uri “/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fsupport.mysite.net%2F”] [unique_id “SYJv@sz1K2IAAEkMDOo”]
Obviously mod_security is stopping this believing it’s an attack.
One thing I do not want to do is turn off mod_security, as when I look through just today’s logs there are thousands of actual attack attempts. I had no idea I was such a target already…
Is there a way to add exception rules to mod_security?
Or is there a better way to do this so I can use wordpressmu with buddypress?

ParticipantI just downloaded and installed WPMU 2.7. It’s awesome!
Much better to start with both 2.7 and Buddypress Beta 2 at the outset.
Thank you Andy for all the hard work

KeymasterYou can replace your navigation items in your theme with a new template tag: <?php bp_nav_items() ?>

ParticipantI just updated the svn on my site, does that mean I have the most recent vs?
I was wondering because I still have the ‘news’ button in the navigation and I notice that the ‘new’ bp changed that to blog.
The ‘news’ button on my site stopped working after update from the svn.

ParticipantTrent:
I was using phpmotion for almost a year and still have it running on my site awaiting it’s upgrade. You may want to check out social media from mediascripts. It is much more stable than phpmotion and already has all the features of the ‘vaporware’ vs. of phpmotion that we’ve been waiting on.
I’m curious if you fully integrated phpmotion login system etc into wordpressmu already, and if so how it went.
I spent almost a month ‘tweaking’ social media to get it ready for wordpressmu, then Nicola came along and decided he’s going to build a native system. So I guess I’m in limbo for a few months when it comes to video.
Sorry for the ‘hijacked’ post… I’m done LOL

ParticipantBuddypress? It will be out before you know it, but even grabbing the latest ZIP out of trac.buddypress.org/browser/trunk/ at the bottom of the screen will work as well.

ParticipantI would go with WPMU 2.7 and buddypress beta 2 (which should be out really soon). If buddypress beta 2 isn’t released, I would come back and ask which version is the most stable out of trunk for your release. WPMU 2.7 is “so much different” than 2.6.5, so it would be nice to get users on it right out of the box instead of changing right away. There are loads of improvements since BP beta 1, but you have to get a development snapshot that works
Long story short, I doubt beta 2 of buddypress will be that long since the tickets are dwindling down….

ParticipantThank you so much.
I am hoping to launch within the next week. Do you think I should stick to 2.6.5 and the first beta version of BP?
Would the new MU and BP be stable enough to just go ahead fresh with the latest?
THANK YOU;
Vida

ParticipantWPMU 2.7 was released about 4 hours ago. The latest beta release of buddypress does work on WPMU 2.7, but there are loads of changes since then. The second beta should be making it out here pretty soon, or you can head to https://trac.mu.wordpress.org/browser/trunk and grab the latest development version by getting the zip at the bottom of that page.

ParticipantI can’t see why not in the future. Once things are more stable, I am sure that someone will try (if not Andy) to port this, but that won’t be for awhile.
