    Hi guys,
The built in search within wordpress can sometimes return pages that I don’t want to be returned when searching for certain terms.
It’s not that it’s premium content or anything it’s just that some pages are used in custom post types and aren’t meant to be shown in search results as posts etc.

Is there anyway at all to be able to tell wordpress to exclude ceratin pages/ posts from being returned?

    Hello,

I decided to make an attempt at installing Buddypress on the website of our local motorcycle club. It’s not working, however. The site was up and running fine, but as soon as I install Buddypress the screen goes blank and I no longer have acces to any parts of my website.

Other topics describe this problem as well, but I just changed the name of the folder in which I installed Buddypress. That gave me back my site, but the problem persists. After having made sure permalinks are enabled and that the the themes are suitable for Buddypress (I also copied the bp-theme into the theme folder of wordpress to see if this worked – but it didn’t) I no longer just get the blank screen, but now I get erros related to my header (line 9. But as soon as I throw that one out, line 44 gives me an error etc. etc.).

Of course I haven’t been able to look through all of the old topics that can be found here, but if anyone could help me out or send me in the right direction, that would be much appreciated!

    Thank you.

    Hi,

I would love to have new feature on buddypress. Same like wordpress.com has ability to subscribe to blogs through admin bar for all members. Would someone make a plugin for that? It would be sweet. Thanks.

Alright. I have tried a few things to build my own gaming site and am lost. I need help building a flash game portal on wordpress using buddypress with the features Points/Achievements/Teams/Tournaments.

We will need an API to trigger the above features from the Flash Game.

I am willing to pay to get this job done.

Well, I decided to re-install WordPress, Multi-Site, BuddyPress… basically EVERYTHING and completely start over from scratch. Maybe that was going overboard, but it was my only option. It is now showing the members and friend requests as it should for just my 2 test accounts, but now I need to figure out a way of bring over the data, posts and WP users from the old site without disturbing what I have working now. Any ideas?

I don’t want my users to be redirected to the generic wordpress login page when logging out. I tried installing ajax login using the following steps (below) to no success. I then tried side bar, which has a similar install. Neither effected the wordpress login page??

Settings > Login With Ajax in the admin area and fill out the form.
Add the login with ajax widget to your sidebar, or use login_with_ajax() in your template.

So what I have to do is enable “Logged in users may register new sites.” under “Registration Settings”?

Right now I have the first option checked:
    1- Registration is disabled. (checked)
2- User accounts may be registered.
3- Logged in users may register new sites.
4- Both sites and user accounts can be registered.

Since I’m using BP, and I want my users to be able to create their own blogs, which one should be checked?

WordPress sends emails automatically to the admin (you I presume!).

If you are not getting those mails when you create users in wp-admin, then your mail isn’t configured properly in WordPress (as with ‘freeriders’ system in the thread I gave you).

You need to fix that before proceeding with BuddyPress install.

Look in the WordPress Codex for details on setting up / configuring the mail settings.

@Hnla: Thanks guys.. Especially that topic solved it :) I did use the search functions and checked the conditional tags in the codex (have that bookmarked) but I could not get it to work as hoped. This should help get me started!

Solved it.. I did need to create anew page template for my activity stream because that was not picked up for some reason. My code:

Either this site needs better search, indexing and signposting, or members simply aren’t searching! I suspect both:

Apologies – have just found out that it is a general wordpress setting, not a Buddy Press setting, found under Settings > General Settings. I have now ticked the box and it is working fine.

    Hi there,

I have installed WordPress Version 3.0.1 and Buddypress Version 1.2.5.2. Everything works fine except the Avatar Crop. I can upload a Avatar and its in the profile (so it works) BUT i can´t see the crop image. I must press crop and hope it fits. What´s the problem? Please help!

you can always do if( whatsit || thisit || orthatsit ) if you can’t find one overall check

The docs are your friend, always check them out:

    Hi Guys,

Is there a way to check if a page is NOT part of BuddyPress but a regular WordPress post or page? I’m asking because I want to replace the bp_page_title() with the regular ol’ wp_title in my theme header. I thought of doing it like this:

    `

    `
This works for the group component.. But instead of making a huge complicated if statement isn’t there a conditional that simply detects if something is a BuddyPress page?

    Thanks in advance :)

Thanks, Travel-Junkie. I think you’re right. A standalone forum would probably be fine. Now, I need to figure out how to get them all to share one forum.

I have this problem too. However, I can’t see where to set-up user registration in the BP admin section – these are the options I have under General Settings –

Disable BuddyPress to WordPress profile syncing?: Yes No
Hide admin bar for logged out users?: Yes No
Disable avatar uploads? (Gravatars will still work): Yes No
Disable user account deletion?: Yes No
Disable global forum directory?: Yes No
Disable activity stream commenting on blog and forum posts?:

BTW, I found all this helpful info:
    https://codex.wordpress.org/Multilingual_WordPress
Manage multilingual posts in one post per language (for example Gengo and WPML). Translations are then linked together, indicating that one page is the translation of another.
Store all languages alternatives for each post in the same post (for example qTranslate).
Manage translations on the generated page instead of using a post context (for example Transposh and Global Translator)
Plugins that direct you to external translation services (for example Google AJAX Translation)
Plugins that link together separate WordPress installations for each language by pinging back and forth.

I’ll try a few more options but sure would appreciate some suggestions.
    Thanks
