Topic: BP Xtra Signup Version 1.4
Hey all,
I just uploaded version 1.3 of my plugin BP Xtra Signup.
This version includes a few small bug fixes, a couple beauty fixes and 2 new features.
Feature 1 is a ajax username availability checker, which is heavily based on this post by Brajesh Singh:
http://buddydev.com/buddypress/creating-a-buddypress-wordpress-username-availability-checker-for-your-site/I thought it’d make a nice addition and I had implemented a modified version of this on a recent project, so I added it to the plugin. Hope you don’t mind, Brajesh. You’ve been given full credits for the code!
The 2nd feature is the addition of the standard password strength checker you get on the user pages in the WP backend.
Both features can be turned on or off individually.
One other thing I changed is, that the checkbox to sign up to a Mailchimp newsletter is unchecked by default now. Some legal bodies in certain countries might argue that new users are generally lazy and don’t really read everything that’s on a page and then are quite surprised and might sue you for getting ‘spammed’ by emails from Mailchimp. I might make this an option in the next version, if people really want the old way back.
Enjoy!
Topic: New user approvals
I seem to be posting this everywhere – sorry!
I need to be able to approve new users to a BP site. I can’t rely on secret urls or invitation codes, it has to be admin approved. The WordPress plugins don’t seem to work (Theme your login, New User Approve) and the only one I can find for BuddyPress – BP Registatration Options – doesn’t offer any settings.
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatfully received!!
So i’m having a problem right now. I’ve installed a buddypress plugin which is suppose to let users to post blog in the buddypress theme instead of letting them go all into wordpress admin panel and stuff, I’ve installed the plugin and everything but i can’t open it since the link that leads the users to the page for making blog post is suppose to be under the blog link which should be under the “my account” link. So hopefully there is a solution to this right? And the plugin i’m currently using is “One Quick Post” which is here: http://buddypress.org/community/groups/one-quick-post/ . it would help allot if i can get a response as soon as possible!
We just launched the re-boot of our old jmonkeyengine.com site. Instead of a hacky mix of Joomla!, WordPress, SimpleMachine Forum, DokuWiki and more, we’ve finally boiled it down to BuddyPress+DokuWiki, and we’re utterly pleased with the results!
The design itself I suppose is not that interesting yet, since we haven’t had the help of a designer. However, I’m very impressed with the smooth DokuWiki integration @normen pulled off. It is the 1-day product of a sleek custom theme and a couple minor edits to DokuWiki. Authentication is synchronized.
We’d be very happy to work with a volunteer designer interested in some pro bono self-promotion.
I want to setup a BuddyPress site that is locked down (have to register) on a sub-domain of my site, but have a main site that is a regular WordPress blog used as a CMS. I’d like to just use one install of WordPress. Can I do this? If so, how? If not, any plans to make this possible or anyone working on a plugin/hack for it?
I installed S2Member a couple of days ago and I’m noticing that there is no Registration Link available on the Login Page. When researching I’m finding there is no General Options -> Open Registration option as indicated. I see where the Network Options it indicates that S2Member has taken control of Allow Open Restration = User. I have Multisite Registration Configuration is set to Yes (Allow open registration / Free subscription at level #0). Did I miss a configuration or has something gone wrong on the install?
I’m on the latest WordPress (3.0+)I have WP 3.1 (multisite) and latest buddypress.. i have 800 blogs on the site.
note: BP is only on the main site blog (ie. i don’t have BP for each blog site)1st) i understand that the new user needs the correct Role. By default, the new user was a ‘subscriber’….
this page is missing some roles
http://codex.wordpress.org/Roles_and_Capabilitieswhat is a Member Role? there are 4 others not mentioned?
2) Also by default, after I changed new user to a ‘member role’, the main site blog was added to the new member’s profile
3) So how can I add a specific blog to a new user? I would LOVE to make this happen:
a) upon registration, the user selects the blog they want to be associated with and
select a group to be associated with.
b) that happens automatically.
c) what would be even better —- if a visitor is on blog XYZ on my site and then decides to become member and join… by default they are associated to XYZ blog and XYZ group.4) can anyone shed light on the concept of using the WP control panel (login to WP) vs. using the BP control panel (or the user admin menu/options/etc)
does a user use both?
thanks
Topic: unwanted redirect in my tabs
Hi to all comunity!!
First, congratulations for this site. I’ve a problem with my buddypress. I upgraded yesterday my copy of wordpress to 3.0.1 release and, since then, the “Groups” and “Users” tabs redirect me to “index.php”. I revise the code but no find the problem. What can happend?Greetings all!
I am new to BuddyPress WordPress development and believe there is a solution to the workaround I have created and am looking for insight.
I have altered the format of the activity output through the core bp plugin in bp-activity/bp-activity-template.php at the function bp_activity_action(). All that was done is a reformatting of the activity from a straight line output to a stacked output for group and document posts.
It seems that this should be a filter application but am not sure if I must create a plugin in order to add a new filter or if I can add and apply the filter in my theme somewhere.
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I’m trying to adapt a plugin to work with Buddypress. The plugin has a subscribe page. I need the subscribe page to work for every blog in my community of users, with reference to the current blog. Preferably showing with the current theme too. I’d rather avoid creating a subscribe page automatically for every blog, e.g. on its creation, because then I have to exclude it from the blog’s navigation menu too. Possible but messy.I have a solution in a sub-directory install. I put the subscribe page in the root of the WP install. Then, when I link to it, with the current blog url included, it shows with the current theme, and references the current blog. For example, this link works – http://myblogcommunity.com/a_persons_blog/the_subscribe_page.php
This solution doesn’t work with a sub-domain install however. For example this link – http://a_persons_blog.myblogcommunity.com/the_subscribe_page.php doesn’t seem to find the page in the root of WordPress.
Any ideas how I could get this to work? Thanks.
