    It is a WordPress setting, under the “Settings > General” pages.

    I need to apply custom taxonomies (categories and tags, and possibly more than one) to registered users (aka blog authors), but neither WordPress or BuddyPress will allow me to do so. User profiles can’t be taxonomized.

    Does anyone have a lead? How can I accomplish this?

    Thanks in advance,

    Rick

    You need to use a wordpress 3.0 compatible theme or create a child theme based on twentyten or buddypress and use that.

    I know there are a lot of topics on this subject, however, after following each instruction found in them, I still have the issue. I changed my theme to Jooc Buddypress Theme, I use WordPress 3.0.1 Buddypress 1.2.5.2 . When I installed the Jooc Theme, my admin bar disappeared, now I can’t get it back. I did do some looking around and found that it does seem to be working in the dashboard, just not on the main page. I find that it is called in the Themes Functions. My footer does have hook. Everything seems to look right, however it doesn’t work. Help ME PLEASE!

    Thank you in advance.

    I read somewhere that buddypress can only work if you have network enabled on your wordpress as buddypress plugins activates as network try that see if it solves your problem.

    You can create your own WordPress page template or widget and create a loop that calls the group avatars. The current groups widget is a good start to see how it works. Also check the theme files group loop.

    Hi everyone,

    I’m sorry if this is a really basic question — I don’t have very much experience with WordPress or BuddyPress. I’m trying to install BuddyPress on my basically blank WordPress site (it just has a basic theme right now), but whenever I install the plugin, a white page loads up and I can no longer access the dashboard. If I go to the site’s homepage it has me registered as logged-in but there is no way to access the panel (going directly to wp-admin just takes me back to the homepage).

    I have pretty permalinks enabled, and my server has all of the BuddyPress requirements. Can anyone help me with this?

    I liked it when someone else posted a topic about the BP Dev Chat to remind me. So, I thought I’d do the same. You can get all the details: http://bpdevel.wordpress.com/2010/08/31/the-next-dev-chat-will-be-on-wednesday-8/

    It’s September 8th (today) at 3 EST (check out the link for the international time)

    Hello,

    I’ve installed BuddyPress Album+ (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-album/), it’s working well but If I type something like this in the photo’s description : “It’s a test” it’s displaying “It’s a test”.

    On the activity stream it’s displaying correctly “It’s a test”. Is there a way to fix the photo’s description ?

    Thanks you for your help.

    Best regards,

    This is more of a WordPress thing, but yes, it’s possible.

    Though, I would do it with only one page.
    eg. example.com/dashboard

    No need to create pages for every single user in your userbase!

    I would create a custom page template wrapped around an “is_user_logged_in()” conditional so only logged in users can view it.

    Then the admin can add whatever content s/he chooses for the “dashboard” page in the WP Page Admin area.

    Might want to try Cubepoints BuddyPress integration… will probably need to be modified to do what you want.

    true… good point… I guess you are both right in that regard.
    It was maybe just that the contrast between the wealth of free plugins available at WordPress and the modest amount here at Buddypress.

    And next to that: I am actually very happy to pay for great software, the problem is only that with some of the premium sites you first have to pay before you can even test if you like what they have to offer. But I guess it isn’t possible to code a plugin in a way that it expires after sometime of being used…

    You can definitely enable it after the fact. Here’s a tutorial: http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-tutorials/how-to-enable-multi-site-option-in-wordpress-3-0/ I’d just test it before you do it since the change might affect some of the plugins you are using or other features of the site.

    Will this allow me to have two separate templates? One for my wordpress site, and the other for my buddypress install?

    @ri-kun The answer to your second question is not straightforward, though it has been discussed before on this forum. I suggest posting it in another thread so that other users will be able to help you with it. You might also have a look at this plugin by @pollyplummer https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-sliding-login-panel/

    Hi John

    Change front page via Administration > Settings > Reading panel. You may have to edit your theme’s header.php to remove the “home” link. “About” is the name of the WordPress page of the same name, so just delete it.

    I’m running a big network of wordpress websites, but 99% of them are non-BuddyPress.

    Do I really have to network activate BP? It will slow down my other sites and I have no use for it.

    What can I do?

    This plugin https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-external-activity/ has the basic infrastructure to do what you’re looking for, though it doesn’t yet have a way for users to enter their own RSS feeds via a front-end UI. I plan to add that in the next version.

    I’ve been experimenting with WordPress Mobile Pack on my BuddyPress site. Made some progress so I thought I’d share how…

    Context is BuddyPress already installed, WordPress Mobile Pack installed:
    1) enable Appearance – Mobile Switcher
    2) set the mobile theme to “WordPress Mobile (blue)” or other, but not base!!!
    3) under Appearance – Menu, create a new custom menu (for mobile navigation) with the following 4 URL links…
    Link: Activity /pathto/activity/
    Link: Members /pathto/members/
    Link: Groups /pathto/groups/
    Link: Forums /pathto/forums/
    4) add the custom menu to the bottom of your sidebar, under Widgets (unfortunately visible for non-mobile too, but it not too conspicuous)
    5) now under Appearance – Mobile Widgets enable only that custom menu (otherwise mobile navigation is a problem)
    6) the BuddyPress links don’t work as the mobile theme isn’t compatible, so hack them in on the command line:
    $ cd ?pathto?/wp-content/themes/mobile_pack_base/
    $ ln -sf ../../plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/activity ./
    $ ln -sf ../../plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/forums ./
    $ ln -sf ../../plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/members ./
    $ cd ../mobile_pack_blue/ (or the one you’re using, but not base)
    $ ln -sf ../../plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default/groups ./

    Your good to go! You can’t use the mobile base theme as it already has a “groups” directory which stuffs things up (if you’re not a nokia).

    Hi there,

    I have a hard time figuring out which plug-in does what and which I can use for my needs…

    I have installed Buddypress and made a WordPress Theme working with a Plug-in that automatically converts the WP theme in a BP supported theme…

    Now my first question, I am scared of breaking something, I ran into an error that took me a few hours to fix the other day… Will WordPress Plug-ins work with this certain set-up or only BP Plug-ins??

    And here is what I’d like to have running on my site but I don’t know which Plug-in will be the right start.

    1. A hospitality exchange Platform where members offer a bed in return for being able to crash on someone else couch for free

    2. A Job Posting Board

    3. A Product Review Section

    4. A possibility to submit cycling routes using Google Maps

    5. A Meeting and Event Section

    6. Member of the Month Contest (Poll Form)

    7. A Donation tab

    8. Each Member should have his own Blog within my site with an URL that is easy to remember e.g. mysite.com/tim

    Thanks so much for looking and thanks for your help in advance

    Cheers
    Toni
