ParticipantMembers created in the WP back-end don’t appear in the members list until the first time they login to the site. This is “by design”, and is due to the way user accounts work in WordPress. Its also an optimization to prevent (potentially) huge numbers of users that have never used the site from slowing it down.

ParticipantIf you installed WP/BP in directory http://yoursite.com/wordpress/ and if you have enabled registration and BuddyPress is activated, the link to create an account goes to http://yoursite.com/wordpress/register by default. The only way to have http://yoursite.com/register is if you installed WP/BP at domain root.

MemberWP and BP are most recent versions. WP is installed in a directory named wordpress. When I look at the register page from dashboard>pages it shows the link as being “/register”. This is happening with the default theme.
I am thinking about removing and reinstalling BP. Maybe it was something I did?

ParticipantWP/BP versions? Is WP installed in domain root or in subdirectory named wordpress?
Are you using custom BP theme or is this also happening when you switch to bp-default theme?

ParticipantYou need to enable registration in wp-admin dashboard menu Settings > General for single WP installs for the “create an account” link to show up

MemberI think that is the default way that BP works.. (unless you have some addon).. I have found an addon called Custom Profile Filters for BuddyPress which lets you selectively create links so that you can make all fields not links except for maybe twitter usernames, or account type, etc.

MemberOf course, just looking at things from the hosting side of things.
If you create 300+ accounts for use as ‘products’ and any of them are even slightly active, notifications will be generated which will in turn send e-mail to the fake e-mail address. Unless the web host in question has it set to blackhole all failed e-mail attempts, there’s going to be quite a backlog in the mail queue.
Using the plugin to allow multiple e-mail addresses for a specific @domain.ext would allow the user to use the same e-mail for all accounts and simply receive the mail instead of loading up the mail queue. If the mail queue is setup to simply drop the mail after one attempt, it may not be that big of a deal, but most are not and continue to try for 24-48 hours.

ModeratorYou do not need to create the email accounts with the default data plugin. They can be fake:

MemberYou may also want to look into a plugin that will allow you to use the same e-mail address all accounts, unless you really want to create either 1). 300 E-Mail Accounts or 2). 300 Forwards.
You can check the plugin below out. It should suite your needs.

Account Details
Username (required)Email Address (required)Choose a Password (required)Confirm Password (required)Profile Details
User Name (required)

Participanti’ve just created a new test account and whilst it’s asking me to create a password in the registration once the account is created a new random password is being generated, which is obviously causing even more confusion.
can this be fixed?

ParticipantHere’s an answer to my own post in case any one else runs into this. You have to be logged out to view the registration fields and create a new account. Guess I thought admin access meant you would see all site functions while logged in…not so.

MemberHi. I have found a similar thing. I have migrated a multisite to a new buddypress multisite installation.
Wordpress 3.2.1
Buddypress 1.5.1I imported a site from my old multisite (without buddypress). I found that when I allowed wordpress to create the users from the xml export data (ie import posts and it gives you the option to create the users) that all of the users could not see my sites in the admin bar and also all of their sites where not visible under my account sites.
I have found that if you create the users first (like a new user) and then assign the posts to the new users … they can operate normally (can see sites in admin bar and all sites are visible under my account).

MemberTried Janrain. pretty easy setup but i don’t see the point as it’s complicated to pull more information than the email (with linkedin and twitter infact you can’t pull the email)
there is also a problem with the fact that some users who have already an account might be prompted to create another account. I’m sticking to wp-fb-autoconnect for now.

MemberNot a stupid idea at all Speel. I was logged in as a subscriber and not admin when I did the screenshot. Not apart of any groups, just a fresh account. Are there certain Buddypress Hook for the join button that I can try to place in there? I didn’t create any of the groups except for the “Colony 001” group (as an admin).

ParticipantMaybe this is a stupid idea but….
Isn’t that what you see when your logged in as admin and you are already a member of the group because you created them? Try the same with a fake account. -
