ParticipantMichael-
You state above that you do not need the old bbPress data. If that is the case, then I recommend that you do a clean install of BuddyPress.
Follow this procedure:
- Make a backup copy of your MySQL DB just in case
- Deactivate all BP-dependant plugins
- Deactivate BP
- Delete all the bbPress-specific tables in your DB
- Delete the old BP files located in the /buddypress/ directory
- Upload a fresh copy of BP 1.1.2, move the contents of /bp-themes/ into their proper place
- Reactivate BP
- Go to the forums setup submenu under the BuddyPress menu and select the “Set up a new bbPress installation” option
Does that solve the issue?

Participantwith the latest build of buddypress I don’t recall having to add bbpress config files at all… it is all integrated within the buddypress plugin now… (unless you want to have a seperate backend for your forums.

Participanthi there
well,so your subdomain style issue is solved.
For the random non existing subdomain behavior is expected by wpmu.since you are using buddypress default theme ,so you will not be able to see wp-signup.php and it is one of the most discussed topic here in forum.just search it.
If you are trying to create forums (as you may be thinking of standalone forum in bbpress),this is not implemented in that way in buddypress. In buddypress ,the bbpress (internal integration) is used for creating forums with groups and they do not have a separate admin. You can enable forum from group admin screen for a particular group.
As far as I know and my experiences with shared hosting, you won’t be able to install wordpress mu on addon domains. If you are able to install wpmu on addon domain ,then buddypress should work without any problem.

ParticipantAs far as I know, there isn’t a administration panel for bbpress in buddypress. That’s why I’m planning to integrate buddypress into bbpress, much easier to make moderators as well.
And since it’s not a important feature, I don’t see Andy or JJJ making it any time soon.

ParticipantIn other words, as jjj is saying, search the forum for threads on “deep integration”.

I’m not sure if this is still accurate, but you can also give this a try:

And btw, I also use Poedit.

ParticipantI now have re-installed wpmu, buddypress and bbpress (all newest versions). But it still won’t work. I also used buddypress Forum Setup.
See the site here: http://xevodesign.nl/talkmore/
The only 3 differences between this setup and the one I did on my localhost (which worked), are that I installed on my localhost, I used my localhost root and the wpmu version.
Edit: Never mind, got it working, used the bbpress-integration plugin. Strangely enough I didnt have to use this before on my localhost.

ParticipantI might’ve found the first bug, I’m not sure if buddypress/wpmu/bbpress or one of my plugins is the problem though.
I have a stand-alone bbpress and integrated it with the bbpress install. But now the cross-login doesn’t work anymore. When I login to buddypress/wpmu I’m not automatically logged in to my bbpress, I checked if I maybe made a mistake with my KEYs, but those are correct.
Since this worked perfectly fine with wpmu 2.8.4a, I’m geussing it’s wpmu’s fault. I’ll test some more and I’ll try to see if I can track down the problem.
Btw, the plugins I have installed are:
– Plugin Commander
– WP Wiki (already tried disabling, no effect)

Participant@ Arghagain: No, I just made a clean install of Wpmu 2.8.5.2, Buddypress 1.1.2 and even a stand alone integrated BBpress 1.0.2. So no problems there.
Shouldnt this be closed, since there’s already a new topic of the newer version?

KeymasterI’m going to comb through the kses for the forum posts and see if there’s a way to lighten them up soon. At the moment everything is wrapped up pretty tight to avoid any security issues.

ParticipantJust completed a fresh install like you did Arghagain. Thought it was just my eyes that was trickerating on me!
Ahhh. Figured it out. Based upon what I read over here: https://buddypress.org/forums/topic/%C2%BFincluded-bbpress-in-buddypress-or-integrate-standalone-bbpress
You’ll realize that in the BuddyPress integrated lite bbPress, you have to create a group (analogous to forum title creation) and then you’ll be able to post topics to that group’s forum listings.
At least I think this is how it works!

MemberAnd the solution is….? Because…?
What’s the point of installing bbpress through BuddyPress if we cannot use it? The forum tab works but since there are no forums I cannot create any topics.
Should we install bbpress separatly to be able to use it at all?
October 29, 2009 at 6:03 am #55389Xevo
ParticipantBetter would be to use, the lite version (since this is already configured with buddypress), but if your looking for the old forums way, then you’ll have to install bbpress seperately and tweak it to get the buddypress looks.
I personally have both groups and normal forums, now I’m looking for a way to get the buddypress functions in bbpress.
October 28, 2009 at 6:15 pm #55353John James Jacoby
KeymasterThe data in the database is safe, but you’d go back to the old “deep integration” method of making them look and play nicely together. You could either rename the DB tables to use the bb_ prefix instead of wp_bp_, or you could specify wp_bp_ as the custom prefix during reinstallation of bbPress.
Then you’d go the same old route of using the integration plugins to share cookies, etc.
Your question also depends on whether or not you’re going to keep group forums. If yes, then group forums already know which forum_id they’re linked to, and BuddyPress will continue to use its own internal bbPress to write to and read from the DB, while your separate installation will be the one that works for your “forum root.” If you choose to ditch group forums, then you’ll want to visit your bbPress site-admin and rearrange and change your forum settings and descriptions to make more sense.
October 28, 2009 at 4:49 pm #55344r-a-y
KeymasterThis is something I’ve been pondering about myself.
It really depends on your community’s needs and how you anticipate growth.
If you like how buddypress.org has their forums, then you’d want a separate install of bbPress.
If you anticipate that you’d want other forums besides the ones created by groups, then you’d want a separate install of bbPress.
If you want more administrative control over your forums (moderation, plugins), then you’d want a separate install.
If you like the fact that forums are only created within the Groups infrastructure, then go with a “new install”. Positives about this approach is you wouldn’t have to modify your BP template often, whereas going with a separate install requires you to create a new bbPress template to match the rest of your site.
—
I have a question for the BP devs: let’s say I go with the new, integrated forum approach and want to switch back to my old, separate install… I’d probably have to restore a database backup as well as a backup of my files right?
