    O.K. the plugin is rather easy to use, that’s a good discovery! I was was able to use it to change font size on bbPress for another website!

    The space has disappeared, alright, but now the group description and the group admin name have moved up on the group cover image…

    margin-top20px

    margin-top0px
    null

    Strange behavior, any idea?

    Thanks!

    Hi Mr. Boone πŸ™‚

    Yes, I tried to activate it and *hum* everything went weird on my website lol

    O.K. so I guess I would need to study this theme child mystery or try with Jetpack’s Custom CSS module, or maybe drop the groups altogether and go with bbPress…

    I will first try to save the groups. πŸ™‚

    Thank you so much for your help!

    I’m using BuddyPress in a limited way in conjunction with BBPress.

    Looking for code or a URL I can add to my BBPress forum template that will take users to their own BuddyPress profile page.

    Hi @nikelaos – The bbPress forums are here: https://bbpress.org/forums/

    I’m unsure how or whether bbPress allows custom language overrides, so I would suggest asking there. Thanks and good luck!

    I’m using BuddyPress with BBPress – and I’d like to ad a big graphic button to every Memeber Profile page that takes the user back to the BBPress forum.

    I assume I have to edit a template (and I’ve duplicated the BuddyPress template files to my child theme) – but can’t figure out which template to edit.

    Direction would be appreciated.

    I am using BeTheme which allows you to pick and choose when you want a sidebar, how many and where. However, this option doesn’t work for any buddypress and bbpress pages.

    I had someone add an fix this issue. He used this code:

    // sidebar setting for administrator member page buddypress with a custom script
    function bp_set_admin_sidebar() {
    global $bp;
    if((bp_is_profile && $bp->displayed_user->id == 1) || $bp->loggedin_user->id == 1) :
    echo “<script type=’text/javascript’>
    jQuery(function(){
    jQuery(‘.sidebar-1’).detach().appendTo(‘.content_wrapper’);;
    });
    </script>”;
    endif;
    }
    add_action( ‘wp_footer’, ‘bp_set_admin_sidebar’ );

    My two issues is that only I can see this sidebar, I need all members to see it. My second issue is that I want to add a left sidebar on the pages as well. I’m not sure how to go about this, what code I would need to change etc

    I tried different plugins but they don’t seem to recognise the left side bar or a place for it.

    Hello!

    I was on bbpress.org and want to login there – and just landed here. Nevertheless, I try to get an answer to solve my problem:
    In Buddypress I can store a localization in /languages/buddypress, which is then used as I expected.

    I’ve read https://codex.bbpress.org/getting-started/bbpress-in-your-language/ and thought, in bbpress is the same functionality.

    Well, it seems not to be… the .mo-file in /languages/bbpress is apparently only used, when the file /languages/plugins/bbpress-de_DE_formal.mo doesn’t exist.

    Any suggestions?

    I wholly agree with the sentiments of the guy who posted this.

    I think bbPress and BuddyPress are, frankly, appalling offerings to ordinary WordPress users.

    They may well be excellent tools for developers, but they are the most user-unfriendly bits of software I have encountered in WordPress. Indeed, they make me wonder whether WordPress is for users anymore, rather than professional developers.

    It simply should not be this complex, and dismally supported, to have a forum on WordPress.

    I agree wholly with the view that there should be a premium paid-for service with a solution aimed at WordPress users – that is people who create editorial and run a site. Not the professional developers, who can look after themselves.

    It does not surprise me that outfits like Wix are growing given this direction of WordPress. If it is for developers only – who hone their marketable skills doing this stuff – then fine.

    For an ordinary user, who is not totally useless on WordPress, I have found this BBPress / BuddyPress combination utterly toxic and a waste of time.

    Hello David,

    Thanks for you reply.

    Actually I am using already BuddyPress Docs, but for other purpose. I am using it to share files withing the groups. Also I am using the bbPress to have a forum inside the group for users ask for help and keep a conversations about some topic, however, I was looking how to create a wiki within the each group. I want to create the wiki because i want to create like a knowledge-base or central library with all the knowledge organized in a well manner. And I want that this is populated and maintain by the users. Do you know how can i do this? any paid plugin?

    Thanks in advance

    Kind Regards
    Ting

    I’d use BuddyPress Docs for this purpose, but I’m a fan of and contributor to that plugin. It’s great for creating organized shared libraries with tags and search ability.

    If you’d rather it be more forum-like, use bbPress.

    I feel the same, they sell BuddyPress and BBpress like super nice tools but actually, it is a waste of time. For me I feel like amateur tool. You always need help to do anything very basic, and the support is not there. Very frustrated!

    At the end, with all my regret, i have been forced to move to joomla. I found what i need there. So sad.

    Hi. I wonder if you’re getting a little confused as to what Super Socializer and BuddyPress actually do? Although they both allow people to have an account on your site, they’re not really the same thing.

    Super Socializer allows you to cross-post your own blog posts onto Facebook, etc, and to then amalgamate any comments back to the original blog post. But the important thing to note is that it’s only really about your blog posts.

    BuddyPress (with bbPress) allows you to have people create forum posts and send each other messages, completely independently of any blog posts you may make.

    Of course, Super Socializer would also be of benefit to a BuddyPress install as it would allow users to set up and log in to a BuddyPress account using their Facebook login.

    I’ve never used Super Socializer, btw.

    Hope that helps

    Hi,

    We’ver recently launched our site, http://www.theknightsrequiem.com. Our site usses both buddypress and bbpress. We are having an issue with cover photos being uploaded to users profiles.

    When you try to upload the photo, you get a progress bar, like you would see any other time. However it never appears, you just receive the message
    “For better results, make sure to upload an image that is larger than 0px wide, and 225px tall.”

    Again no image is actually uploaded or displayed. However, we can upload user profile photos.

    We are running WordPress 4.8.2
    Our theme is Game Addict by Skywarrior
    Potential plugins that could be affecting this, Buddypress itself, bbpress.

    Thank you for your time and help.

    I can recommend the WooCommerce WooMembers bundle – allows you to limit access to the site and take monthly subscription payments: https://woocommerce.com/products/woomembers-bundle/

    It mostly works with BuddyPress (in that you can limit access to most pages and bbPress forum posts) but they do have work to do to make it fully protect a BP install, but it is on their radar.

    Hope that helps

    Hi,
    Thank for the plugin.

    Durning test plugin, when i deactive bbpress, i used delete bbpress roles and clean up roles by code bellow:
    $wp_roles = new WP_Roles();
    $wp_roles->remove_role(“bbp_keymaster”);
    $wp_roles->remove_role(“bbp_moderator”);
    $wp_roles->remove_role(“bbp_participant”);
    $wp_roles->remove_role(“bbp_spectator”);
    $wp_roles->remove_role(“bbp_blocked”);

    After all done build web, i come back to use bbpress now. But i found that i get lost all bbpress roles that can not cover back (beacuse i used code bellow in last 1 months)

    Now do do i retore bbpress roles ?

    I have a fresh install of WordPress running WordPress 4.8.2.

    Running Thrive theme with the following plugins active:

    Akismet Anti-spam
    BuddyDrive
    BuddyPress
    BuddyPress Docs
    BuddyPress Global Search
    Gears
    Menu Icons
    One Click Demo Import
    rtMedia for WordPress, BuddyPress and bbPress
    Slider Revolution
    Subway
    TaskBreaker
    The Events Calendar
    Transcoder (for rtMedia)
    Visual Form Builder
    Wp-Polls
    WPBakery Visual Composer

    I am on shared hosting with the following:
    Apache Version 2.2.31
    PHP Version 5.5.36
    MySQL Version 5.5.50-38.0-log
    Architecture x86_64
    Operating System linux

    I’m using Chrome to work on the site and test it.

    I’m familiar enough with PHP and css and such to find solutions to most issues, but this has me positively confounded.

    First, when I try to upload a profile picture if I have my monitor set at full screen (it’s a large monitor)–it will come up with the pink box and say “There was a problem cropping your profile photo”

    If I minimize my browser, just click the button and make it smaller the image will crop and upload with no issues.

    What?! I’m perplexed. I can’t make it do any different, no settings I can find will change the behavior.

    Then when I tried to upload a cover image, it loads the image to the placement page, but across the top there’s a huge error:

    Warning: transliterator_transliterate(): Could not create transliterator with ID “Any-Latin; Latin-ASCII; [\u0080-\u7fff] remove” (transliterator_create: unable to open ICU transliterator with id “Any-Latin; Latin-ASCII; [\u0080-\u7fff] remove”: U_INVALID_ID) in /home/******/public_html/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/classes/class-bp-attachment.php on line 292

    The code is this:

    public function sanitize_utf8_filename( $retval ) {
    		// PHP 5.4+ or with PECL intl 2.0+
    		if ( function_exists( 'transliterator_transliterate' ) && seems_utf8( $retval ) ) {
    			$retval = transliterator_transliterate( 'Any-Latin; Latin-ASCII; [\u0080-\u7fff] remove', $retval );

    		// Older.
    		} else {
    			// Use WP's built-in function to convert accents to their ASCII equivalent.
    			$retval = remove_accents( $retval );

    			// Still here? use iconv().
    			if ( function_exists( 'iconv' ) && seems_utf8( $retval ) ) {
    				$retval = iconv( 'UTF-8', 'ASCII//TRANSLIT//IGNORE', $retval );
    			}

    And the specific line in the error is this one:

    $retval = transliterator_transliterate( 'Any-Latin; Latin-ASCII; [\u0080-\u7fff] remove', $retval );

    The name of the file I am uploading is “header.png”. I tested it with a .jpg file as well. Same error. It will allow me to set the area on the image and it will upload it to the cover, but I wondered if the issues I’m having with images could be related so I didn’t want to leave them out.

    Also, this is the SECOND installation with the same issue. I thought that maybe the first install had become corrupted or something so to eliminate the possibility that I was dealing with a database error or something I deleted the entire install and did a complete reinstall into a different database (however, if it is important I was using the Softaculous Apps Installer inside of my Cpanel, not manually installing, but if that makes a difference, I am happy to try a manual install, as I am capable and willing to do anything to resolve this issue because it’s driving me insane.

    The error with the cover photo happens no matter what theme I am using, and the profile picture issue happens only with the Thrive theme. I am in contact with the theme author about it, but wanted to share that info here just in case it was somehow relevant.

    Any insight into what this issue could be? Sorry for so much info haha but if you need anything I haven’t supplied to give me some clue I’ll be sure to provide it!

    Thank you kindly,
    Juliet

    The site deals with teenagers and is a closed community so I would prefer to not publicly post the url, but I would be happy to provide it privately if it would help someone to trouble shoot. Thanks!

    I am looking for a solution to a problem with a website im trying to make..

    I have BBPress and Buddypress working fine together..

    I need to find something however that I can give a different class access to a section of the page

    Like a Link this class will see when logged in titled “BACKSTAGE”.. I got that so far thats easy.

    Now when they log in backstage they will see a menu With the Following

    POST BLOG – Here they will be able to post a VLOG. when posting it will already have a set featured image and a set catagory to post to..

    UPDATE PROFILE – this could be their buddy press profile but prefer it to be separate then that.. click the link and it will take you to a form page and if you have info in there all you will have to do is edit the spots and save.. if no info is there then you have to edit the spots thats all..

    any help or ideas would be great!

    Think I finally figured it our for anyone trying to do this… the drop-down item will allow you to view members by the number of bbPress replies…

    // ======================= add order options to members loop ============================

    add_action( 'bp_members_directory_order_options', 'sbmar_add_sorting_options' );
    function sbmar_add_sorting_options() { ?>
    <option value="posts-desc">Number of Posts</option>
    <?php
    }

    add_action( 'bp_pre_user_query', 'sbmar_pre_user_query' );
    function sbmar_pre_user_query( $BP_User_Query ) {
    	// Only run this if one of our custom options is selected
    	if ( in_array( $BP_User_Query->query_vars['type'], array( 'posts-asc', 'posts-desc' ) ) ) {
    		global $wpdb;

    		// Adjust SELECT
    		$BP_User_Query->uid_clauses['select'] = "
    		SELECT $wpdb->posts.post_author AS id
    		FROM $wpdb->posts";

    		// Adjust WHERE
    		$BP_User_Query->uid_clauses['where'] = "WHERE $wpdb->posts.post_type = 'reply'";

    		// Adjust ORDER BY
    		$BP_User_Query->uid_clauses['orderby'] = " GROUP BY $wpdb->posts.post_author ORDER BY COUNT($wpdb->posts.post_author)";

    		// Adjust ORDER
    		$BP_User_Query->uid_clauses['order'] = 'DESC';

    The problem i got is:

    sometime user-profil ist under ****/userslug/username/ reachable, but sometimes it needs ***/userslug/username/profile. Users are in the same groups as i see. The problem is, that sometimes you can click on the avatars of the author and get to the profil and sometimes you go to bbpress.
    How could i edit this link?

    Kind regards

    Hello,

    When upgrading to PHP 7, I saw a number of errors and warnings from Siteground’s PHP 7 compatibility checker. The only one I needed to act on was:

    $empty_translations = & new Translations(); in /bp-forums/bbpress/bb-includes/backpress/pomo/sample/app.php

    In the next release, is it possible to have that line updated to just:

    $empty_translations = new Translations();

    Thanks,

    Hi all,

    I am very new to bbpress. I got a quick question regarding to the user setup.

    Basically, when a new user registers, i’d like to assign him/her to a specific forum(s) he/she can create a post (or edit his own post).

    How can i do that?

    That’s a plugin called “Private groups”, but it seems that i need to assign ‘role’ in the bbpress, then the ‘role’ attaches to a specific group. That’s not a perfect way.

    For example, if User X assigned to a ‘participant’ which attaches to ‘group 1’, then User X can access a forum Q with ‘group 1’ only access. However, i don’t want User Y with role ‘participant’ is able to access forum Q. In this case, what should I do? or any good plugin I can use?

    Idea case is:
    I can assign each new register user (or existing) to a specific group, then he can access a forum with specific group access. For example:
    User A –> assign Group 1 –> can access Forum X
    User B –> assign Group 1 and 2 –> can access Forum X and Y
    “Role” will not affect “group” decision.

    Please kindly help. I search around but with no luck so far.

    Many thanks in advance.
