ModeratorBuddyPress no longer bundles bbPress therefore has no forums. You can install bbPress separately. There is a setting in bbPress to have a forum for each BuddyPress group.

Participantbut when I click in settings (account, profile or create group) gives error. The system returned with inexistent page
@tuliodc not quite clear. You mean you go to dashboard Settings > BuddyPress > Components/Pages/orSettings and when you click on some sections, you go to a 404 page?I saw that buddypress should work with bbpress, is true?
My question is, what plugins I should install
I recommend that before you install other plugins, double-check that your BP install is in good working condition – e.g. registration ok, can create groups, can add friends, delete activity stream item, etc. If all OK, then read compatibility version, reviews and support forum topics of that plugin to check if plugin is supported and/or updated to latest BP/WP versions.

ParticipantI am using wordpress version 3.5.1
It is a directory install, but it is in a subdirectory.
I did not upgrade wordpress. This was a new install.
I am running buddypress version 1.7.2
I have the following plugins installed and active: bbpress, all in one event calendar, tinymce advanced, buddypress media, jetpack, subtle background patterns, wordpress importer.
I am using a customized theme called “Salutation” which is designed to work with buddypress.
I have not modified the core files and do not have any custom functions.
I am running bbpress version 2.3.2
My host is godaddy.
I am on a linux server.

I’ve been doing that for the past couple hours and I think I have found one thing that may be the difference between the two sites. I’ve posted about it here (https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-menu-showing-up-at-top-of-admin-dashboard/) – not sure if you would have any knowledge on that or how to solve it.May 29, 2013 at 3:24 pm #164995In reply to: bbpress vs buddypress group forums

Participant*As for the registration page- I am now getting this when I go to the registration page as a logged out user:
User registration is currently not allowed.*Forums: I think the problem could be that bbpress is not integrated correctly. Under Legacy Group Forums > bbPress Configuration there is a file uploaded and then in red next to the file it says File does not exist
When I click on “repair” it says I do not have the authorization to repair.May 26, 2013 at 6:54 pm #164828In reply to: Same message being sent multiple times

ParticipantI cannot be the only one with this problem. I did a clean install, with only wordpress, buddypress and bbpress and everytime I click ‘yes’ the radio button will not stay checked ‘yes’. It sends an email to the people in the group saying ‘group details for the group “xxxxx” were updated:
But when changes are made to the group nothing is emailed. There is no way I am the only one, can someone verify that this thing actually works?
Thanks

@mercime
ParticipantI followed the instructions … Buddypress now works flawlessly. All three problems I had were solved.
Music to my ears ๐ Thank you for following instructions.
But the slider of the theme stopped working, as expected. .. To change somehow the version of the jquery that my theme uses isnโt an option?
There are alternatives to your slider which should work with current WP standards. Check out the ones updated in 2013 -> https://wordpress.org/plugins/tags/slider
You need to make sure that your theme is updated to the latest WordPress version including jQuery, otherwise you’d be stuck in an old WordPress version which could be buggy and/or a security risk. In addition plugins, like BuddyPress and bbPress, use the latest jQuery version included in current WordPress, so if you use older version, things could get very bumpy.
To keep theme updated, install the Theme Check plugin and run it in Appearance > Theme Check with your theme. If you find any REQUIRED or WARNING results, you need to address that in your theme right away. RECOMMENDED results are just that, recommendations which you might want to address but not that important or necessary. Good luck.

ParticipantThanks for the help @mercime. I’m making progress. I did as you instructed and placed the buddypress.php and bbpress.php files in the root of my theme directory. Previously, I had the customized buddypress.php file in my theme’s buddypress directory. Now, the sidebar doesn’t display on the groups or forums pages, but the main content is still not expanding to full width, the way it does on the Calendar page http://sndhome.org/calendar/ (which is associated with the All-in-One Calendar plugin).
I can tell that this theme accomplishes the full-width display by swapping CSS settings. But even after spending some time digging through the theme’s files, I haven’t been able to locate the code that controls this behavior. I can just see that it works for pages that aren’t associated with BuddyPress or bbPress. I would just change the theme’s default template, except the template author doesn’t provide a default option that enables the full-width display. ๐
I have posed the question to the template developer as well. Still awaiting a response there. I really appreciate your help. I’m learning a lot today! ๐
May 24, 2013 at 5:23 pm #164717In reply to: How to recognize alternate page templates?
@mercime
Participant@shirleyl open up your theme’s full-width page template and save as buddypress.php and upload this file to your theme folder in server wp-content/themes/yourthemename/
Do the same for bbPress, create a new file bbpress.php from full-width theme template and upload same to theme folder in server.
Know that the full-width with apply to all BP and bbPress templates. If you want different layouts for each BP component, read this https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/theme-development/a-quick-look-at-1-7-theme-compatibility/

ParticipantCould have been any (or all) of the following plugins:
BP Group Documents (ancient, don’t think I can find it online again)
BP Unread Posts https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-unread-posts/ (also obsolete)
U BuddyPress Forum Attachment http://urlless.com/u-buddypress-forum-attachment/
I haven’t reactivated any of these 3 and am about to delete them.It appears a case of too eager to upgrade without properly checking existing potential conflicts. Too much haste and not enough care in my excitement about 1.7 – my bad. Thanks for your support Paul.

MemberAlthough Yoast’s WordPress SEO works perfectly with WordPress, it isn’t currently compatible with BuddyPress. I suggest you try a plugin such as SeoPress. There are some problems with that plugin (lacking 404 page support, registration page title buggy, incompatible Friends component etc) but on the whole it is about the best option on the market at the moment.

Participant@mercime Hi! Thanks for the link and the advice! It is certainly appreciated. I have been using WordPress now for about 2 years…but I’m no expert by any means, but in the last 2 years I’ve really learned a lot and I really enjoy working with WordPress. I’m sure that BuddyPress and bbpress will be just as challenging and just as much fun to learn.
As I was telling @ubernaut, the site we are going to be adding the forum and networking to has a lot of users that are very passionate about their interests. They are already very active in conversations so I believe the forum will be a welcome addition to the site. I will definitely want to activate the group forums as the site is already broken up into some groups just through association.
I am thankful that you guys are out here! LOL After looking at the link you sent me and looking over the bbpress documentation, I have a feeling that this might be a little bit of a challenge. But, I am up for it and I’m sure with all the expert help here, I’ll be just fine.
Thank you all for your help and encouragement! I’ll be sure to let you know how everything turns out and send a link to the site.

ParticipantAnd I notice that the pages for forums and registration donโt work.
Did you enable Registration in Settings > General? If you did, did you check Settings > BuddyPress > Pages to see if a page for Registration is associated with the Registration dropdown and saved?
I donโt understand the bbpress thing. Am I supposed to have that too if I want forums? Does BuddyPress not have forums built within?
BP no longer has internal bbPress group forums built in. For current version, you need to install and activate the bbPress forums plugin for sitewide and/or group forums. https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

Participantbetter to install bbpress using FTP. I can do it either way, but Iโd prefer to do it through BuddyPress
@ldjautobody Recommend that you install BuddyPress first. That way, after you install bbPress plugin via Plugins > Add New, you can activate BP group forums (if you want) in Settings > Forums . https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/ -
