    Hi Kevin,

    I wish I could recommend Salutation theme but alas I cannot.

    I am very comfortable with WordPress and have been designing websites from purchased themes for several years now and this was my first venture into the world of forums.

    The theme itself looks awesome – the main problem is the work I had to do to get the theme looking exactly like the demo – when first installed, Salutation does not communicate cleanly with WordPress so it comes out jumbled with static blocks all over the place. The work I had to put to figure out how to get it to look exactly like the demo alone was astronomical (and the demo was why I bought it).

    The support available was very basic. I would ask a lot of questions and be given half an answer – frustrating and very time-consuming. I could not figure out how to work it out myself – a very unintuitive theme.

    The videos are excellent and I did find some help there but here I sit… 50+ hours later with a beautiful website that does not work because I can’t get Buddypress to play nicely with Saluation… Hence, my request here for some professional assistance.

    Hope this helps, Kevin!

    🙂

    Hi there!

    I need some professional support.

    I have put 50 + hours into buddypress and the current theme I am using for a new website (Salutation) and have come to the end of my tether.

    I cannot get this working myself. (the website is http://www.tigressyogateachers.com)

    Can you please point me in the direction for where I can find some professional help? All of the problems are centred around getting the forum working correctly and someone who is familiar with Buddypress will certainly be able to help me – quite easily I imagine!

    Thank you so much and I’m looking forward to your response as soon as possible!

    🙂

    I’ve worked through the guide but am still having some issues. I’m doing some troubleshooting now and hopefully will get things working but I’ll post my issues here in case anyone has any good tips.

    1. Group forums are not appearing in the Dashboard forum screen (wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=forum) I would have expected them to appear here after the import.
    2. Previous group forums do not appear to be linked to the group any longer. The forum tab for the group simply says ‘The group does not have any forums’. Reactivating the old buddypress discussion component resolves this.

    Troubleshooting so far …
    After some digging around I discovered that the buddypress bbconfig.php file has a different table prefix set for the forums. Suspect that the forums didn’t actually import because wp_bb wasn’t used.

    I dont use Yoast seo and dont know what he does with his code, but if it helps here’s what BP uses now (in 1.6) – https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/branches/1.6/bp-core/bp-core-filters.

    You need a BuddyPress compatible theme or to use the BuddyPress template pack plugin to convert your theme to a BuddyPress theme. https://codex.buddypress.org/legacy/

    Yes, I created an example to show how you can create a twitter type status update only site. http://status.taptappress.com

    Also there is a theme focused ona  twitter like experience http://buddypress-themers.github.com/status

    Hard to understand why so many people are having this issue over a simple missing file and nothing being resolved.

    The adminbar.css is missing. Not server issue or .htaccess. Just not in the directory.

    I have made a black file to at least stop the 404 error logs and site load time.

    So, where can I get a copy of adminbar.css?ver=3.4.2

    Thanks for your help.I has builded the child theme of bp child with 2 folders as the instruction.
    And add the codes to style.css

    /*
    Theme Name: BP Child
    Tags: buddypress
    Template: bp-default
    */

    And add the code to functional.php

    if ( !function_exists( ‘bp_dtheme_enqueue_styles’ ) ) :
    function bp_dtheme_enqueue_styles() {

    // You should bump this version when changes are made to bust cache
    $version = ‘20111109’;

    // Register stylesheet of bp-dusk child theme
    wp_register_style( ‘bp-dusk’, get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . ‘/style.css’, array(), $version );

    // Enqueue stylesheet of bp-dusk chid theme
    wp_enqueue_style( ‘bp-dusk’ );
    }
    add_action( ‘wp_enqueue_scripts’, ‘bp_dtheme_enqueue_styles’ );

    Then i appended the changing css codes to child theme style.css
    .content-wrapper-inner {
    background-color: black;
    }
    BUT nothing has changed.

    And

    where should i do to show the post&topic time and date use the code of https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/the_time

    @mercime Thanks for your reply. I actually meant random avatar for the “members” of my buddypress site (not for those who leave comments!)

    The option in Discussion Settings that you mentioned in your post is for posting comments. Ain’t they? Or please correct me if I am wrong.

    My idea is to create different random ‘default’ avatars to new members who sign-up. Some members of our site do not change their avatars and because of that we have several mystery ‘men’ getting populated in Members Directory, Group Directory and widgets or wherever we are showing off members’ avatars. The site looks so odd with so many mystery’men’ avatars.

    I hope you understood the problem. Do you still recommend me to try your ideas or the plugin? Thanks for your help.

    @ChrisClayton,

    Thanks a lot, that looks like it should work! I have a couple questions for you if you don’t mind…although they might be silly. Do I just throw that code in my functions.php file? Also, will I still be able to log in as admin at http://www.site.com/wp-admin without being redirected?

    Thanks so much for your help.

    1. It could be an issue with the redirects, does this link work for you? https://codex.buddypress.org/legacy/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/

    2. The site here is using Bbpress 2 with the topic type as a super-sticky (or sticky. I still don’t know the difference between the two). You may want to see the codex at bbpress.org.

    There’s some reorganizing going on the BP Codex. Try this link https://codex.buddypress.org/legacy/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/

    Hi thank you for this.

    When I click on the first link (the codex) I get a 500 error.

    The buddypress profile menu looks very promising. I will be installing that.

    The other question I had is if there is a search function for the FAQ/Support? I can’t find one.

    Thank you again.

    or zip file from link at bottom of the page at https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk

    Re timeline, check the BP roadmap at https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/roadmap
    BP 17 has 71 tickets to go. Patches welcome.

    you need to make sure the template/theme ‘SmallBiz’ are buddypress compatible.
    you can use the ‘template-pack’ plugin if its not bp compatible theme.
