Yes, BuddyPress (in particular the profiles and messaging) would be a suitable base for your site.

If you need to get development help – you can advertise on the Jobs Board: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/bp-jobs-board/forum/

That code test as working on a local BP install and in a custom BP theme so no it’s not a BP issue as such. All standard BP screens show the class added for the given browser. BP simply grabs the array $classes amd merges it’s own set of classes to that array before it’s rendered to browser, I ran the code from my functions.php so you may have some form of priority issue in when bp is cutting in and grabbing the array to merge to, but this is more to do with your theme I would guess and at what point that function is running. do try testing this function on a plain vanilla BP i.e swap to bp-default to test whether it works.

On a sidenote be wary of user agent sniffing it has never been considered a suitable way/ method of establish a user agent due to UA spoofing a regular and common practise that historically meant one couldn’t be sure of the query result being valid.

    Hi,

Well it is a pagelines (a theme) plugin. Here is the plugin code: https://gist.github.com/4077479

Naturally, I posted this question on their forum. They answered that it is probably a buddypress problem, because they are using a wordpress filter. The plugin does add body classes (for browsers and devices) on all other pages (non buddypress pages).

Why should this not be working on buddypress pages? Yes. I have little knowledge of buddypress, that is why I am here.

Well, I did mention in my previous post that https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-multi-network/ had shared users. I have not used that plugin before so I recommend that you read
    http://wpmututorials.com/news/new-features/multiple-buddypress-social-networks/ and
    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-multi-network/installation/

You’ve created one network when you went multisite. With the plugin above, there’s one instance of BuddyPress per network. Therefore, if you want more BP instances, you have to create a commensurate number of networks with WP Multi Network or Networks+. At this point, I would venture that you should have a dedicated server to service all networks with respective BuddyPress instances.

This is way more advanced and complicated than Brajesh’s plugin where you only need one network (multisite) install and each subsite has a separate BP instance. Therefore I would suggest that you get the premium Networks+ to avail of experienced support which I think you’d need.

@mercime Thanks for your help. The problem I had is I didn’t know which file the “create an account” would be in. But, I figured it out. It was in the sidebar.php file. I commented out (using // before the command) the offending verbiage. So, not a perfect solution. Someone could still guess how to get to the registration page, but it is not right up front.

As for the survey, I have a link from my consent documents to a survey on Survey Monkey and will put a link to the registration page at the end of that survey. Haven’t tested all of that functionality, yet, but I think it will work.

    Thanks again.

I was thinking exactly the opposite. Thanks for clarifying the differences between both the plugins.
I want to have different domains with different sites/groups/activities/forums etc but I want to share the users among all the different networks i.e. once a user signs up, then he/she should be able to login and use any of the BP network site in the entire network.

    So I basically need https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bp-multi-network/

I just checked the plugin page and it says: Segregate your BP networks in a multi-network WP install.

    Requires BuddyPress 1.5 or greater.

This plugin segregates BuddyPress social networks in a multi network WordPress install so that each WP network has a different social network. The user base is still shared across the WP install.

Multiple WP networks can be created with either:

    WP Multi Network
    Networks+

Q: Does this mean I need to install “WP Multi Network” along with “BP-Multi-Network” plugin?
If yes, which one first and which one 2nd to install?

I fixed this by adding /members/ to the non-cache pages – hopefully there aren’t other such Buddypress/Super Cache inconveniences Im not seeing.

Take the folder _inc from buddypress/bp-themes/bp-default and copy it into your theme folder.

@loec By default, you don’t get notification of replies from this group forum unless you have been @ mentioned.

== removing ”create an account” link ==
On your original topic post, simplest way is to just delete it from your theme file/s.

== I want participants to complete a survey and click a link to the registration page. ==
There is no plugin that I know of that can do this at this time. You’d either have to code it yourself or hire a developer to do so.

The manual way is to create a form which includes an email address field and when the answers are acceptable, you’d email the registration page URL to the applicant which could be good for 5 days. That registration URL/slug can be changed after 5 days.

Clear cache and deactivate cache plugin, change to bp-default theme, then check if issue recurs.

I’ve had “Don’t cache pages for logged in users” which in my little head diables cache on BP pages or am I wrong?

== They are at /gonzo next to normal sidebar and header ==

If so, then something’s wrong with the BP folders/templates transferred to your Gonzo theme folder and that’s why these BP templates are not picking up header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php you uploaded to your theme folder in server.

One solution is to get a fresh set of templates. Delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your gonzo theme folder in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /members, /groups, /register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.

@zeecc No need to insult the BP generated design. If you don’t like it, just say so.

== So from what i’ve understand it is possible to use the frisco layout to insert into my theme. ==
Frisco theme has it’s own stylesheet where you copy the styles from. Use Firebug, the Firefox add-on to check which styles go with which HTML tag. Or, hire a developer to make the changes for you.

    @mercime

You would have to hire a developer to make brajesh’s plugin into a shared user base since separate tables are created for each instance of BP in the multisite installation. Or, you could opt to install http://buddydev.com/plugins/join-blog-widget/ so logged in users can join in other subsites within that multisite installation.

This same thing is happening to me – I installed buddypress and the front & back end of my site went completely blank. I chose to enable very few options like groups, etc. Now I’ve tried deleting the plugin from my cpanel & then reinstalling, but once I reinstall, my site goes breaks again and I can’t see any content on the front or back end. Any idea how to correct this?

Hi I’ve come to the conclusion that W3 Total Cache causes the error. Is this common?
