In reply to: Edit profile data validation

ParticipantActually I think it is impossible without modifying the core files. Any character limit or other custom validation is lost in the edit profile page, and since the $error is a local variable on xprofile_screen_edit_profile, there is no way to set it. Can you confirm that @djpaul?
I don’t know if this is planned for future releases, but I could help build a better validation code for user registration and edit profile. Adding a character limit to fields would be nice.October 23, 2012 at 6:25 am #143813In reply to: Edit profile data validation

Participant@djpaul thanks for the reply
I found what is going on: xprofile_check_is_required_field bypasses if user is administrator, that’s why I was able to save required fields empty.
Now I am trying to hook xprofile_check_is_required_field to a bp-custom function called check_and_validate that also checks the fields for a character limit (another very important missing security feature I pointed out on another post.) But somehow it is not working.. any ideas on how to do it?By the way Paul, how can I submit tickets on bug tracking? I’ve been messing around with buddypress a lot lately and found a couple.

ParticipantLol…..before I read your post I just did what you said. Not working, BP-default is giving the same problem. I even did a WP uninstall/re-install…..no luck.
I don’t understand, it’s a totally new installation and I havn’t even add a post/page, just finished with the setup only and I’m face with this problem.

ModeratorAdd a plugin that causes logout problem then switch theme to BP-default. If problem goes away then frisco theme is causing error. It seems weird because logout is a WP function. BuddyPress doesn’t create it’s own logout.

ParticipantThanks @inkblot but BP does manage the registrations, not WP — IE how it used to disable uppercase characters because of conflicts within BP. I’ll take a look at that plugin later – for some reason the Plugin directory isn’t loading properly atm.

Participant@chiangmai – It could be because it’s not compatible with BP, I’m not familiar with that plugin but not all WP plugins are compatible with the BP registration process.
I’ve had success with Wanguard and asking a specific question. I’ve only had one spammer come through in the last month. I tried other CAPTCHA plugins before, and the CAPTCHA wouldn’t show in IE.

@mercime
Participant== followed your instructions (in a previous thread) which has worked with alignment, however the styling of BuddyPress is now wrong. ==
@wizza unless the instruction is for the Sportsmag theme, please do not copy any given in any previous thread. Open up your theme’s header.php file, copy all code, paste in pastebin.com, click submit, and post the generated URL here. Do the same for your theme’s index.php, page.php, sidebar.php and footer.php files. We’ll see.

ParticipantNo plugin available at this time. You’d have to code it yourself or hire a developer to do so.

KeymasterWhat happens when you switch the theme to the BuddyPress Default theme?
Do you have any plugins or code snippets (check the theme’s functions.php and /wp-content/plugins/bp-custom.php) that might be interfering with profile links?
October 21, 2012 at 10:29 pm #143775r-a-y
KeymasterThe “business-services” theme is probably an older BuddyPress theme; the theme developers shouldn’t be copying the ajax file into their theme without changing the ajax function names.
Try using a different theme if possible.

ParticipantThis SITE is such a confusing site. Become a buddy freak since mars and this site I cant understand. Where Am I? In a group or in a forum? In a private activity? When can I search for What?
Searching doesnt work and everything is SOO Old.
And Google points here all the time.
Just finding reply button isnt easy.

Groups only matter in forums and if you choose site wide forums you can get rid of groups all together. That has nothing to do with private message one on one conversations. This issue still seems to be lacking a bit of logic. A PM only goes to the person you send it to anyway so essentially it is a one on one conversation. Not enabling friendships means you really cant use any of the great friendship based plugins like @r-a-y ‘s Private Messages For Friends Only, or my own plugin BP FriendPress which shows a facebook like activity stream that is dependent on friendship.
Taking friendships out of the equation is only going to limit what you can control in the long run so I personally would suggest reconsidering your options.October 21, 2012 at 2:01 pm #143765In reply to: Should install bbpress or buddypress first?

I agree probably should do it, but it ought to be implemented in the new version of bbPress rather than BuddyPress.

Participant@djpaul so sorry, you are right. I am using group email subscription – I was convinced it was core functionality (it feels like it should be). It’s @boonebgorges and @dwenaus plugin, I’ll see if I can find out more from them on their own support forum.
