The bad news …waking up at half past 6, on my day off, and seeing this message; therefore instantly activating my brain. The good news …the problem is fixed before breakfast. YOU ARE A LEGEND! You are a legend I had tried renaming my theme folder and even tried naming the plugin folder (which doesn’t work as too many things call the plugins) so I was at a loose-end and about to rebuild. However, I was confident that my custom functions file was clean, despite calls for the groups (as they were all contained in “if”s …So I began naming all of the plugins that controlled groups in buddypress the two in question were “Buddypress group control” & “buddypress groups extra” I now have groups re-enabled and also know how to safely disable it. THANK YOU!
without Sidebar.php file on theme @mercime
it is not working for me @mercime
@garrickbs Open up your theme’s header.php, copy all code, paste code in pastebin.com, click submit, and post the generated URI here. Do the same for your theme’s page.php, index.php, sidebar.php and footer.php files, I want to see the whole picture.

== it breaks my whole site and everything is inactive. ==
@alexcurrie123 Haven’t heard bbPress bringing down a site before. BP/WP versions? Single/Multisite install? Windows/Linux?
– Have you checked whether it’s a plugin conflict by deactivating other plugins?
– Try deactivating BuddyPress, install/activate bbPress plugin, then activate BuddyPress.
You will be creating two new files, header-buddypress.php and sidebar-buddypress.php
If you’ve revised any of the BP template files transferred to your modernize theme folder in server during the BP Compatibility process, please delete the 6 BP folders transferred to your modernize theme folder in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /members, /groups, /register – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility again to make sure that you have clean template files.
@mercime that was the first tutorial i followed and i got no result. thanks for your response
@garrickbs there template-packed themes already at https://codex.buddypress.org/theme-development/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/#template-packed-wordpress-themes
== If you’re still stuck no doubt mercime will revise your files for you in due course so have another shot at it and update this thread with the results. ==
@hnla looking forward to BP 1.7
@abid-khan
– Deactivate the theme you were using when BP was activated by renaming theme folder in server e.g. wp-content/themes/mythemefolder-xx
– Go to wp-admin. If you still cannot access wp-admin then deactivate BuddyPress plugin folder in server by renaming the plugin folder wp-content/plugins/buddypress-xx
This one can drive a person absolutely mad trying to figure out. Depending on what your setup is (Multisite-enabled?), you can try this method;
1. Create a noreply@yourdomain.com (or whatever you want to call it – you can even use a Gmail address for this, though I’ve not tried that approach myself) email address, if you don’t already have one, with SMTP relays, especially if your ISP has restrictions in place for sending email.
2. Add and activate the WP-Mail-SMTP plugin; https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/
3. Configure the plugin settings to fit your needs, or as per the plugin instructions suggest, by going to “Settings” -> “Email” in your WordPress admin area.
At least that’s what I recall from my past experience with BuddyPress enabled and having this issue, and it worked like a charm!
@sureshkutti either change role of new members from Suscribers to Contributor or Author. Or, make your installation multisite and allow users to create blogs.
Thanks
1. AMU is a plug-in called Add Multiple Users which https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add-multiple-users/ It enables a CSV import of users. [Sorry for not being clearer in the OP].
2. Users added manually – ie using the WordPress new user screen – and users Registering using the front end – work fine in BuddyPress – [both those entered before and after doing the CSV import with AMU) ie the user has a profile page and can edit it.
3. All the users imported using AMU have all fields complete including first, last, nick and display names. The only empty fields are www, jabber and AIM.
4. Users from both the CSV import and the manual user added from the Users_Add_New_Screen screen are added to a BP groups using @boonebgorges‘ Buddy Press Group Management plug in. All appear in the group member list (and all members lists) but the ones bulk entered using CSV file do not have profiles.
I’m going to try doing another import and see if I get the same result.
Hi
Search being broken is a known problem it says elsewhere. You can use Google to search the site add site:buddypress.org to your search.
You can use a plug in like Members List to display the data of all members or those that meet certain criteria on some other page on your site.

We actually have a pretty limited number of users, who are paired as mentees and mentors. We want each mentor/mentee to be able to select their corresponding mentee/mentor from the list to make sure the spelling is the same. We also want to show linked pairs in another section, which is another headache all to itself.
The first name and last name are stored as xprofile fields because I needed the privacy and user controls that Buddypress provides. Role is also stored as an xprofile field because we’re using our own defined roles (mentor and mentee).
Looks like I’m going to have to get deep into the SQL to do this – was just hoping there was something easy I’d missed!
@rairai-ni based on initial scan, you would only need to create two files for BP compatibility but it will have to be hardcoded. You’ll have to decide on either or the three layouts for ALL your BP templates:
a) content with right sidebar -> like this page OR
b) left sidebar with content -> do provide a link to a page with that layout, OR
c) full-width, no sidebar -> do provide a link to a page with that layout
@micjavier Your theme has default button.span that’s display: block which stretched out BP’s span tag. To resolve the issue, add this to your stylesheet
`a.bp-primary-action span,
#reply-title small a span {
display: inline;
}`
@mercime Hi Mercime, here’s a your test user login User: mercime Pass: qwerty12345
after you login go to this page: http://www.secretpaperbox.com/members/pulsemaggots/
You wil see in the Activity “Comments Button and Favorite” are meesed up, and now i cant even write a comment to someone. Please help. Thanks in advance.
@rairai-ni please start a new topic and include the information you posted above. This topic is specific to the Yoko theme.
@mercime it is squared but extremely pixilated…
I’ve read the details at codex.buddypress.org and tried the “tests” for correct WordPress install.
They all seem to work.
I also read: `”WordPress should be installed manually i.e. via FTP, cpanel, etc. and NOT via webhost scripts (fantastico, softalicious, etc.)which bring about numerous issues when BuddyPress is activated.”`
Apparently I’m off into “various issues” land. Are these issues listed anywhere? Since my WP seems to pass the listed tests? What else could be going on?

== Actually, I’d like BP to appear only in a member section, so not directly in my index page, ==
@sb0n The revisions I posted above touched only the 16 template files within 6 template folders transferred to your theme’s folder in the server during the BP compatibility process, not your theme’s index.php page. I would suggest re-uploading your theme’s files manually via FTP as something else might have messed up your theme’s index.php
== changing/moving header tags ==
Sorry about that, code has been updated
@mercime Thank you so much !! : )
I changed everything and it work like a charm ; except for one thing I’m not sure about :
“Then, in each of 16 files, you’d like to change the BP Templates’ page title’s header tag from
…
or
..
to
AND move title to above
Just watch out when you do this in the /activity/index.php page.”
When you say “Titles Of Respective BP Page” which part am I supposed to change : “page-entry-header” into “page-entry-registrer” (for instance) or “entry-title” into “entry-register” or both, or neither ?
Also, with the changes everything works except the index.php page of my theme.
Actually, I’d like BP to appear only in a member section, so not directly in my index page, did I miss something / how could I do that ?
Thank you !
