    @sciencefiction68 You need to change 16 template files within the 6 BP folders transferred to your pinterest theme folder in server during the compatibility process.

    If you’ve previously changed any of the BP template files in your pinterest theme folder in server, replace all of them for a clean slate by deleting the 6 BP folders – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /groups, /members, and /registration – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility.

    Download the 6 clean BP folders to your computer hard drive.

    A. At the top of each of those 16 template files I linked to above, replace
    `

    `

    with the following:
    `

    <section id="content" >
    <article id=”post-“>

    `

    Then, in each of 16 files, you’d like to change the BP Templates’ page title’s header tag from `

    ` or `

    ..

    ` to `

    // Titles Of Respective BP Page Templates //

    `, AND move this to above `

    `. Just watch out when you do this in the /activity/index.php page.

    Save files.

    @shawn38: no worries but from what was said the issue was initially using bb not bp custom :)

    I made the bb-custom.php file in notepad+++ and entered this;

    http://nickyernstsen.dk/spilportal/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/code.jpg

    I then uploaded it here; /test/wp-content/plugins

    @karmatosed Yes, I agree with you. I should have just wrote the code surrounded be the php tags that goes in bp-custom.php. Sorry Tammy, honest mistake! :-)

    @shawn38: no it should go in bp-custom.php – you should never add things to your wp-config file like that it’s a bit of bad practice.

    https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/bp-custom-php/ – for reference

    Put it in wp-config.php in the root of your site above /* That’s all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */
    As @karmatosed pointed out it should work ip bp-custom.php as well you probably just forgot to add the opening and closing php tags like this:
    `<?php
    add_filter( ‘bp_use_wp_admin_bar’, ‘__return_true’ );
    ?>`

    @Chouf1 : It all depends on what they are using it for – true or false can be used. However the main issue is that you are using a bb-custom.php file there @nickyernstsen. You need bp-custom.php.

    @karmatosed It’s return_false !

    add_filter( ‘bp_use_wp_admin_bar’, ‘__return_false’ );`

    This thread is turning hostile fast, and the misleading and attention-grabbing title is going to give people new to BuddyPress, or those visiting our site for the first time, a bad impression of the project. BuddyPress is, in fact, stronger now than it ever has been in every aspect.

    These forums are intended to be used for support with BuddyPress, announcements, or for sharing sites that you’ve built with the rest of the community. The plugin groups and forums provide similar facilities for BuddyPress plugin authors. FIQ, they aren’t meant to be used as a soapbox when you have a dissenting view on something, and are trying to gain support for that position. There’s nothing wrong with having a contrary view, but you are going about discussing things in a hostile and unconstructive manner.

    As best as I can tell, this all started from a discussion about the wireframe ideas for the upcoming template compatibility layer. I’m super sad that the argument has now spanned three? forum topics, and that most of them have had to be closed. It’s harming constructive discussion on the wireframes, as well as using everyone’s energy.

    I suggest that if you want to continue discussing your concerns, why not write a blog post about it? That’s the perfect place for this to happen, and if a constructive idea or suggestion comes from the discussion on it, then you can start a new discussion on these forums about that idea.

    If you want to discuss this moderation further, please email me at paul @buddypress DOT org

    The fact the post below was locked tells me everything I need to know about the development staff here.

    No I’m not going to invoke the ‘Nazis’ rule on the thread, it not necessarily negative, and closing threads too easily smacks of censorship. :)

    @FIQ I have to say I think you are entirely wrong in your view that the forum is geared towards developers, as nothing could be further from the truth. The forum is geared, as is BP, firmly towards the non code, the fact is that up to now there are aspects of BP that cause much angst for developers – if you scan through the codex it’s main content is not developer focussed but there to guide newbs and non coders, the detail developers require is not really there.

    BP paid an inordinate amount of time to the out of the box experience – too much imho – however it did do that in a pretty effective manner and that suites and suited the non coder, the problem arises where those non coders get the impression that to start customizing the install/experience should be equally as easy as the original install and that notion in seen quite often, when in fact to take BP beyond that which has been offered does require skills be learnt and where it’s not necessarily easy or valid to provide simple solutions on a forum such as this.

    @fiq Then I applaud you for taking initiative! Add a link to solutions you have on the forum from your site. It could be a positive thing!

    Okay @fiq since you have everything I don’t have, then why don’t you make a website that helps out inexperienced people and so when someone has a question you have a solution for on your site then you can provide a permalink on the forum to the article that supplies the solution. That is not sarcasm, its encouragement for you to do something a lot of people would find helpful.

    @FIQ Your resume is irrelevant to me. Pardon my language but I am not trying to have a pissing contest with you. You are as bad as newpress about being a confrontational. You have a negative attitude about almost every topic you contribute too! Re-examine your behavior. Its not rocket science as to why people are offended by the way you come off!

    @FIQ BP is opened for inexperienced users. For example I have not used BuddyPress as long as @modemlooper so his expertise is far greater than mine. I wanted the bp default to do stuff it didn’t do so I made a plugin and shared it because I thought it was a a function that was relevant. The point is instead of complaining about it then do something. Post a wireframe, a plugin, or whatever. If you want something done a specific way then do a wireframe and post it and stop complaining. Its kinda rude and disrespectful to people the way your behaving. Your like a child tattle telling because you take things just a little too far!

    @shawn38 Thanks for proving my point.

    PS
    This is not for me. Not only am I a expert at what I do, I have a team of them at my disposal. We have done things with BP that some said was impossible. I have also built marking programs for some of the largest internet companies in the world. If you would like to compare resumes I would be happy to oblige. I figured if we are going to use this code we should be involved, perhaps that was a mistake.

    @FIQ You really should listen to what @modemlooper is saying. If you want something changed then take your own initiative to learn how you can change it. If you want coding tutorials then make a blog and embed youtube video’s cause there is loads of video tutorials all over the place. If you want functionality then make a plugin it will make you feel less confined to BP default behavior. In all honesty if you wanted to make a version of BuddyPress that can do whatever you wanted then go for it. That is what open source is for. You can take the code that is there and change it around to do what you want. Nobody is stopping you but you! Liberate yourself and do what you need to do instead of telling others to do it for you because that smack doesn’t fly and I was kinda guilty of it myself at one point and I got tired of waiting for others to do it for me so I did it myself. Now I am grateful for the existing work because I don’t have to start from scratch. I can take whatever and change it to what I need it to be. Just saying!

    @twc01 Initial scan shows that you need to revise 16 BP template files. If you still want to proceed, open up your theme’s header.php file with a text editor, copy all, paste in pastebin.com, click submit and post the generated URI here. Do the same for your theme’s page.php, index.php, sidebar.php and footer.php files.

    Just look at the replies I get for the suggestion that BP should be more open to inexperienced users…

    #140938

    @shawn38 I’m sorry you believe nurturing inexperienced users is babysitting and don’t believe BP is capable or organizing content. You are correct when you say you are under no obligation. So why are you apposed to it if you are under no obligation to participate?

    @ r-a-y yes, it is installed in it’s own directory “wordpress” http://mdacintranet/wordpress, the problem is when I install bp the additional sub-directories that (I’m assuming) are suppose to be written under the wordpress directory are not appearing. Thus causing the page not found error, it’s not possible to display a page when the directory the page is suppose to be in is not even there. Maybe I’m suppose to manually create each of the first? I have literally re-installed from scratch about 7+ times. The wp site installs and runs flawlessly until I try to install bp. Once BuddyPress is installed the only thing that works properly is the dashboard and in order for me to then fix the site I have to do a complete re-install of wp. If I try to deactivate the bp plugin, it cripples the entire site. I have been trying this on multiple systems all running Linux (ubuntu 12.04 server) and all in virtual machines. Any help will be greatly appreciated as this seems like the perfect solution if only I can get it to actually work. Thanks.

    @FIQ The threads are answered without obligation by anyone. Not everyone’s topic will get answered either. Its not anyone’s responsibility here to baby sit someone through learning coding which is beyond the scope of what the forum and codex is about. Honestly can you imagine trying to sift through all of that info when all you really want to know is BuddyPress specific info. It would cause more chaos than being helpful. If you want to point someone into coding instruction then copy the URL for this thread and paste it on their topic. I already supplied a link for one of the best sources available on this thread.

    @modemlooper I can respect that. Forums are a poor medium for debate. Often people read into things that may not be correct due to the lack of inflection in print. I myself must admit that my direct way of speaking may be off putting to some. But if I didn’t care I wouldn’t be writing this.

    Anyway…

    Yes, of course members can and should create their own sites if they feel they can give back. But, that’s not my point. My effort here is to provide suggestions on how BP itself should be marketing its product. BP should not rely on outside sites to do it for them. I believe the marketing of BP is as important as the code to its future success.
