In dashboard/buddypress/settings make sure “Restrict group creation to Site Admins” is checked “No.”

@zillabuggs to troubleshoot further, is this a new install or was it upgraded from BP 1.5+? If it was upgraded, was it working properly before the upgrade? Are you on single install or Multisite? If multisite, is BP activated in main site or secondary site?

@cyber49 have you tried contacting Joost? He’s usually very responsive to such requests

@aronprins Its looking better and better every time I check it out! Nice work Aron! I would like to suggest a couple options. First option is to make the search form disappear for non-logged-in visitors. Second is to make the navigation menu not appear for non-logged-in visitors. These options should be something that an admin can select via the back-end. Anyway it just a couple things I think would make this theme stand out from the crowd. Thanks!

@mariareh64 to make your WP theme compatible with BP, you need to install the BP template pack plugin and go through Appearance > BP compatibility process. If you need assistance to fix alignment for Step 3 of the process, start a new topic with name of your theme as well as codes (post in pastebin.com) of your theme’s header.php, sidebar.php, index.php, page.php and footer.php and post the generated URL’s in your new post.

@radmacdaddy if you’re using a WP theme with BP Template Pack plugin, make sure that you have fixed alignment in all 16 BP template files. If all else fails, change to bp-default theme and check if issue is corrected there.

@miguelcortereal – I’m not sure why BP won’t take its cue from Yoasts (otherwise fantstic) SEO plugin and we’re trying to figure this out now – It sure doesn’t seem to work at ALL – and it even strips out the meager title tags that work fine in BP

We’re using BP as a business directory for a local chamber of commerce. All of the categories, searches, and even the businesses profile pages themselves are getting blank title tags via Yoast’s plugin, but turn it off, and they come right back. Irritating – We’re looking for a way to just disable the plugin for BP pages but might dump the plugin if we have to.

Unless we get Yoast working for BP too, I still don’t know how we can get a unique description snippet for each page either – His WP SEO plugin does that for you, taking a snippit from the beginning of the page – OR – you can go SEOverboard and put in one separately on the edit screen if you want to – (Same goes for the title and keyword tag – they autogenerate if you want or you can manually edit.)

The rest of it – the “on page” seo is pretty much covered, although we do like to make sure the template has a unique H1 tag, but that’s about it.

It’s also worth noting that the Yoast plugin does NOT add the BP pages to it’s xml sitemaps either, so we have to double up and use Arne deBracholds XML sitemaps plugin which does get every member BP page…

@therestofyou – Yeah traditional SEO has changed, and is less link-dependent now, but the fundamentals of on-page SEO 101 (like a unique title tag, etc). are all still important. Even having a unique desc tag is important for the serps to show a description for the users,

@shawn38, give it a class in the header where you placed it something like

<div id="top-links">
<ul>
<li></li>
</ul>
</div>

and put this in your style.css

 #top-links ul li:hover ul { /* lists nested under hovered list items */
left: 0px;
}

Adjust it accordingly.

I could help on this, but I will have to do it in my spare time because I am pretty busy. I propose making it a premium plugin because it would help the future development. @juanmaguerrero whoever told you to stick the preloader.gif where you specified is wrong. It should always have its own folder in the plugin for instance wp-content/plugins/ bp-auto-load-activity/includes/preloader.gif. You should never save the preloader.gif to buddypress because updates will muck it up. That is my two cents worth anyhow!

@qrahaman isn’t that sorta what the plugin W3 total cache or just minifying your CSS kinda does to a degree anyway? If so then its already kinda been done handily and there is no point in reinventing the wheel! Just saying!

In addition to my first reply, you need to have the ‘Extended Profiles’ component checked in your Buddypress settings under ‘Components’.
