BuddyPress.org

As people might be know, Web Notifications (http://www.w3.org/TR/notifications/) are similar to how Growl displays its notifications, but are very different in most ways. You can see them in Safari 6 and Chrome today. In OS X Mountain Lion, notifications appear in the new “Notification Center” (http://photos.appleinsider.com/notificationcenter_hero1.jpg — the grey vertical column on the right). I believe they will also appear in iOS 6’s existing notification panel, but I haven’t tested that.

I don’t know if Web Notifications support will be added in the *next* version of BuddyPress, but I’m going to try to get them into a future version of BuddyPress. I’m actually playing with some implementation ideas for another plugin that I am working on, so by the time it comes to BuddyPress, it ought to work nicely.

@michaeljdornan it’s unfortunate that sbrajesh’s Join Blog Widget for WPMS doesn’t work in your WP MultiNetwork /BP MultiNetwork installation. Following options are available: you’d have to code one or hire a developer to do so for you or wait for a developer to release a free plugin just like the Join Blog Widget for your set up.

@gswaim as I see it, the theme dev intentionally made the BP pages full-width.

Initial scan shows that you’d have to revise around 16 BP template files within 6 BP folders included in your supermassive theme (I assume they are bec. dev said it was BP-ready) to change the HTML markup and add style classes as well as sidebar to the BP pages. Not sure whether you’d have to pay the theme dev to provide the revised pages or if he/she would provide revised template files for free.

Hi Auktweena — that plugin is not related to BuddyPress, so you would be better off asking questions on the forum for the plugin, or on the wordpress.org forums.

As for step 3 – that’s standard ‘stuff’ for integrating a plugin’s templates into the theme you’re using for your website. This article gives you an introduction to theme development in WordPress: https://codex.wordpress.org/Theme_Development

Generally, theme work requires PHP development experience. In your case, to get the basics up and running, it looks like you just need to copy some files… you’ll need an FTP client to navigate and copy / move around the files on your website.

There is not difference between WordPress users and BuddyPress users – they are the same thing on a BuddyPress enabled site.

You would be best using WordPress user capabilities, and then some logic in your template code to authorise / reauthorise access based on those capabilities.

Just about anything is possible if you are a good PHP developer.

“Forum Topics” and “Forum Replies” are added by BuddyPress, and work for bbPress 1.x (aka Group Forums).

“Topics” and “Replies” are added by and are work for bbPress 2.x content (aka Site Wide Forums).

If you’re using bbPress 2.1, you don’t need to use Group Forums. Go to your WordPress admin > Settings > BuddyPress, then Components, and disable Group Forums.
Then go to the bbPress Settings page, and if you scroll to the bottom, there will be a “Enable Group Forum integration” box (or similar).

It would need custom development.

It’s fine integrating with an existing (WordPress) site.
