    I have unsuccessfully been playing around with BuddyPress alignment to match my WP theme for the last couple of days. I consider myself a moderate user of PHP and CSS but this one is driving me nuts. I need help!
    The page in question is http://www.ppua.net/member-directory/. As one can see, the page doesn’t fit the rest of the other pages. I followed the instructions found at http://codex.buddypress.org/legacy/wordpress-to-buddypress-theme/ and many other ones, but to no avail.

    Here’s what my theme page.php resembles:

    <div class="container_24 clearfix separator “>
    <div id="content" class="grid_15 “>

    <div id="post-” >

    <?php if(has_post_thumbnail()) {
    echo '‘;
    echo ”; the_post_thumbnail(); echo ”;
    echo ‘
    ‘;
    }
    ?>

    <?php wp_link_pages('before=&after=’); ?>

    and BuddyPress /activity/index.php:

    • <a href="” title=””><?php printf( __( 'All Members %s’, ‘buddypress’ ), bp_get_total_member_count() ); ?>
    • <a href="” title=””><?php printf( __( 'My Friends %s’, ‘buddypress’ ), bp_get_total_friend_count( bp_loggedin_user_id() ) ); ?>
    • <a href="” title=””><?php printf( __( 'My Groups %s’, ‘buddypress’ ), bp_get_total_group_count_for_user( bp_loggedin_user_id() ) ); ?>
    • <a href="” title=””><?php printf( __( 'My Favorites %s’, ‘buddypress’ ), bp_get_total_favorite_count_for_user( bp_loggedin_user_id() ) ); ?>
    • <a href="” title=””> <?php printf( __( '%s new’, ‘buddypress’ ), bp_get_total_mention_count_for_user( bp_loggedin_user_id() ) ); ?>

    • <a href="” title=””>

    I know this may be as easy as moving one line code or as difficult as changing the whole structure of the site. Please help!!!! I will be forever grateful.

    After doing everything above, and then reinstalling BuddyPress and correctly setting it up (I made sure to follow the BuddyPress tutorials), I am still able to access every link on the site EXCEPT the the Profile > Edit link on the user page for the current, logged in user.

    Please help!

    @mercime Thank you for your response. I have already tried to re-upload BuddyPress once before, but I will do so again for good measure. My worry is that every time I face a problem with this plugin, the first recommendation is to re-install it manually. This is not going to be very helpful when I actually start using it and have a lot of content associated with it.

    @afjsystem & @mercime For reference, and because I may not be doing something correctly, this is how I have fully and manually uninstalled the plugin:
    1. I deactivated the BuddyPress Default theme
    2. I deactivated the BuddyPress Plugin
    3. I deleted the BuddyPress Plugin (again, the only plugin I had installed)
    4. Using mySQL (through Terminal), I deleted all tables associated with BuddyPress within my WordPress database on my server

    Please let me know if I am doing something incorrectly.

    I will let you know what happens when I reinstall in a bit, but I have to run to a meeting at the moment.

    there should be more efforts like “CBOX”

    You really need to explain a remark like that. What are you wanting provided for you? CBOX is a theme development project based on the Infinity framework. It has entailed a huge number of hours, is backed by a number of developers, and also as far as I’m aware funded, so the fact it’s then returned as openly available for anyone to use is a bonus, but  do not expect that to be the norm it’s an exception.

    Your bullet points are understandable but not necessarily possible to do. Define work well? who writes those review and tests the plugins?

    Better forum responses? how do we achieve this then? Bear in mind a forum such as this  and many others are a volunteer effort, those of us that do answer questions do so at the expense of our free time even though for most developers there is  in reality no such animal as free time, again helping out on the forum is one way to help improve it as is contributing to the Codex as I mentioned before.

    – So yes no one would question things can always be improved and it’s fine to suggest so  but the real answer is get involved  help make that improvement – it’s a community driven effort.

    And on that note the thread does start to repeat itself so lets draw a line under things!

    By & large the point was/is with the BP theme compatibility styles that they do  or provide as little styling as possible, to slot into a theme BP has to render just very simple positioning styles more than anything, leaving the theme to provide styles.

    You will need to look at the mechanisms the theme provides for adding styles and provide adjustments where the theme causes issues for BP elements.

    BP provides a top level namespace type token #buddypress so using that you can apply styles that have a higher specificity.

    Big f****** problem over here:

    All my BP pages are just in white. Recently I move my domain (with subdomains) to another domain (with its subdomains) since this I can’t access my bp pages in one of the subdomains (fortunately the test one).

    I have tried:

    1. Update permalinks
    2. Deactivate all the plugins but buddypress
    3. search and replace site URLs
    4. Update BP pages

    And nothing happens…. Any idea?

    Thanks in advance!

    Drop an anvil on me that says “10 Tons” …

    Somewhere, somehow, in all this I managed to miss the “change your .htaccess idiot!” banner. Well, that isn’t what it really says, but its what it should say for me. I changed .htaccess and voila it works.

    It’s been one of those weeks, let me tell you.

    BP 1.7 beta 1
    WP 3.5.1
    Theme: Website (actually the name of the theme, from ThemeForest)
    Groups Page

    For the most part, theme compatibility seems to be working. However, some elements are being hijacked by the theme’s styles. A couple of examples:

    • Group search text input is not visible
    • On the group admin settings page, the radio buttons for privacy options disappear because they are picking up a theme style with opacity set to 0.

    Is there any way to have all BP elements completely ignore theme styles? Or is it simply a matter of finding each offending style and adding a style to override it?

    First.. let me say.. I highly appreciate everyones efforts..

    — A paid plugin doesnt guarantee non-breakage…

    putting aside the conversation of “hey its free stop complaining” — there should be more efforts like “CBOX” and/or a better ranking system that addresses:

    1) Does this plugin work well
    2) What are the best plugins that work to do xyz..
    3) A better response to forum questions/inquiry..

    again.. I highly respect everyone here.. @modemlooper is a kick ass developer and wish i can afford his services…

    — But I do think theres gotta be a recognition that… BP & the BP Plugin forums support can use improvement..

    Hi,

    I’ve installed Worpress multisite with buddypress. I have a site running on a subdomain, but when users register, they are directed register only on the main domain.

    This is ok, as I would like users to navigate seamlessly from site to site without having to log on again, but after registering, I want them directed back to the subdomain they originally subscribed from.

    Any advice/guidance here?

    thanks

    Francis

    It would be unprofessional to say one media plugin over another is better on BuddyPress.org. If it’s not in core then it’s up to you to obtain the additional components to your site. It’s been great that there have been free offerings for a media plugin but I would sleep better buying a paid plugin that I knew was not going to break.

    As for no media plugin working with 1.7, 1.7 hasn’t been released. Beta periods are when plugins get updated.

    I would like to add a menu and sub-menu to the ‘site(s)’ menu in a BuddyPress MultiSite installation in the user(s) profile page.

    I would like the menu to link to a page only when the users is logged in so it can’t be accessed by a visitor.

    If someone could please help giving detailed instructions it would be very helpful to me.

    Thanks in advanced!!

    its obvious that theres a lack of clarity if the questions been asked over and over again, because one can only assume that a satisfactory answer has not been achieved

    Why is it obvious there’s a lack of clarity? The question of media keeps getting dragged up because people want that elusive magical full on solution available right now for free – or so it seems?

    There are  three available media offerings, and media capability to any great degree is in the hands of plugins it’s not a core issue. There are far more fundamental things the small core dev team need to focus on and it’s not things like this.

    Take questions about media directly to the plugin authors, hassle bp-media ask why it’s still not near beta.

    And as for wiki , FAQ etc contribute, give back write the darned best practise ?blog 🙂 you say you’ve been using BP for years? well BP is community driven – get driving please.

    P.S.

    So what if this question has been done to death.. its obvious that theres a lack of clarity if the questions been asked over and over again, because one can only assume that a satisfactory answer has not been achieved. I suppose this question and a ton of similar questions can be solved or addressed by having a “wiki” or easily searchable FAQ or Best Practice Blog or.. whatever.. — Ive been using BP for several years (on many of my sites) now as non-technical administrator and Im constantly frustrated.. but anyhoo.. just my 2cents..

    Ok, new default installation following the latest instructions for for bbPress 2.3 beta 2 and BuddyPress 1.7 beta 1 to create sitewide forums.

    I guess the only issue I have is one of understanding the logic behind accessing the Forums or Group sections from the main menu as opposed to the admin bar menu or BuddyPress menus (under the avatar).

    Main menu takes the user to domainname/forums or domainname/groups
    (Here you can create, see listing of Forums etc, create a topic in these Forums.

    Whereas the admin bar links to domainname/members/username/forums/ or domainname/members/username/groups does not display Forum list – does not allow for creating new topics. Groups appear to work the same way.

    So, from within the “BuddyPress” menuing (by this I mean the admin bar dropdown and/or the Buddypress menus underneath the user’s avatar) the Forum and Groups menu do little except allow you to see topics that you have contributed to.

    The clean install is at:
    http://bp.youpix.org

    Is what I have described the way BuddyPress Forums and Groups are supposed to work or is there some configuration error on my part?

    thx

    On youtube, users register, and then upload a video to a massive pool of videos, and then you can search and find videos, view related videos while watching videos, categorize your videos, post comments on videos, ect…

    Is it possible to use BuddyPress to build a social network that has the same ‘skeleton’ or ‘structure’ as YouTube, but instead of users uploading videos, they contribute something else?

    Anything is possible if you can code. No off-the-shelf solutions for this. There are a couple location/map plugins.

    I am using buddypress 1.7beta(trunk6829) and a custom theme that is not created for buddypress. It works for the most part except an issue with ajax links.

    I am not sure if it is a buddypress issue or an issue with a particular plugin I am using. I am using the group tags plugin here http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/buddypress-group-tags/ . When one of the tags is clicked it is suppose to show all groups with that tag using ajax. Instead it goes to a page not found. If I enable the template pack plugin and move files into the theme it does work but also messes up a bunch of formatting in the theme. If I use the default buddypress theme it does work. That is why I am not sure where the issue is. Any ideas?

    hi @bphelp, @hnla,

    i had the same issue on my test site with BP 1.7b1 / wp 3.5.1 and the theme Roots. This theme is depending of legacy template witch is animating this part through buddypress.js

    The affected div is whats-new-options

    To avoid the scroll, I increased the heigth of jq(‘#whats-new-options’) from 40 (by default) to 60

    Go to /buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/js/buddypress.js and do the change at your need, line 26 and 43
