The main reason I want two separate installs is because I can’t get wildcard subdomains working on the web server level. I have to add each subdomain in cPanel.
Which would be really, really bad for users who want their own blogs.
Would it be possible, then, to convert my subdomain install into a subdirectory install and still have BuddyPress work happily? (I know it’s compatible with both, but any difficulties that could arise with a switched install versus a clean subdomain one..?) And would the Domain Mapping plugin work fine as a hack-around to get some sites as subdomains?

It imports activity from other blog feeds around the web. What you would do is put the address of the feeds of the group’s activity streams into the group, so the posts would flow into that group also.
This is an email issue, nothing to do with Arras. Zy has fixed conflicts with buddypress and Arras in 1.5, however Arras is not a per say easy “compatible” theme to makeover with buddypress by itself. Unless your ambiguous like me, and do it anyway
The situation might have worked on the bp default theme for a number of reasons. The confirmation email delay of sending depends on the number of traffic on your site at the moment, sometimes with high traffic loads the email can take up to 45 minutes to arrive. ( yes, 45 minutes).
Also, the bp-default theme by itself doesn’t have much to load at all, like images, javascript, and other. Arras theme has lots of images to load, (like featured slideshow), and much of the widgets have images, and other things that can cram up the server, and cause a big delay on the email sending as well.
Very nice, I am also using arras for my new site, still under construction; http://www.sprachgefuhl.com, and I am having issues with the sign up of new members as verification e-mails are not sent, did you have this trouble, how did you solve it? any help will be very much appreciated.

Sure you can. As Andrea_r mentioned above, “Why not just have it all in one site?” That way, you won’t have to make changes in DB to have the same userbase for both WPMS installs. You can have BP in your main site, and just use BP Template Pack plugin and go through the BP compatibility process to make your WP theme compatible with BP in main site.
What php magic are you looking for exactly? Have you tried contacting Arras theme author re BP compatibility? I recall there were some js conflicts with Arras theme sometime back. Don’t know if this is still the case @gunju2221.

Same situation, thank you, it worked on default theme but…
I switched back to the theme I want. Now after I signed up at least it gave the message that a verification e-mail was sent…but it wasn’t
The new registered user does show up in list of users, yet after login it just goes to the main page, as if nothing had happened.
What and where is the php magic that tells buddypress “send the e-mail” and register this new member?
@DJPaul any idea why this would not work on the activity page?

OK I understood – right up to the part
Before you upload, change the HTML structure of permalink.php to something similar like the page.php while keeping that page’s template tags on permalink.php.

If I recall well, fishbook is a child theme of bp-default theme. What you do is
1. create a new folder named `members` and
2. within that members/ directory, create another folder named `single` then
3. within the members/single/ directory, create another folder named `activity` then
4. copy over the file permalink.php within activity/ folder so result when you upload everything to server, you’ll have
5. wp-content/themes/fishbook-buddypress-buddypack/members/single/activity/permalink.php
This is what’s following the directory structure of bp-default to your own child theme folder

Making it a custom page template and dropping in the entire register.php block didn’t work?
Also I’ve tried out the Gravity Forms add on for a registration form like this that can be placed in the page but I didn’t get into it much as I only tested it quickly when they introduced those addons. From what I recall it worked but something weird happened after the registration like the page not refreshing — I don’t remember. It also didn’t do what I wanted as far as no activation key and redirect to profile like what I use currently. So i shelf’d it. I think that would be a good option if you don’t mind getting GF. It’s a good investment! Actually, I think I’ll look into tinkering with it again.

The subdomains & subfolder parts are controlled by multisite, not buddypress. And you can’t mix ’em. Not even with multiple networks (unless you want to map those subdomains, but I’m guessing you do not).
SO ya can’t find it cuz it’s not really easily do-able. Not without two installs.
Why not just have it all in one site? Why can’t the users have theirsite.yourdomain.com? They’ll still show up in the BP stuff.

What versions of WordPress, BuddyPress are you using? What theme and plugins are you using?
Which plugin exactly? Unless it’s a BuddyPress-specific plugin, you’re best to contact the author via the wordpress.org forums for any support.
Don’t bump your posts until nearer 48 hours after posting.
The widget uses bp_get_member_avatar(). (bp-core-templatetags.php, about line 314). I would not recommend changing a core file because it will be lost when you upgrade to a new version of BuddyPress.
