In reply to: Importing data from Excel, CSV sheet

Unfortunately, I cannot get it to work so far. I have 870 users with about 30 different profile fields from another CMS which I need to import, so it would be really important not to have to do this by hand… Could you provide an example csv file which shows how it should be structured? Are the names for the columns just given in the first row?Cheers
Sebastian

KeymasterWe’re trying hard for a beta in June.
You can get the current development version from https://svn.buddypress.org/trunk. You’ll need a SVN client.May 28, 2011 at 6:57 am #113243In reply to: How to Display Profile Field in the Topic Template

Participanthey thanks mercime.
Am I correct in saying that I could run the multiple buddypress sites without your plugin, but it would post all activity across all the sites for every user?May 28, 2011 at 4:48 am #113240@mercime

Member@r-a-y yes this is the original thread. However, the other thread I opened was more specific. So I still have an unanswered question. I was hoping that since you gave a ray (no pun intended) of hope that it could be accomplished, that perhaps you could offer guidance on how to accomplish it.
I have googled for the last month on this, and can’t create the solution by myself. So i am still asking for help.
Thanks

KeymasterYou could turn BP groups into locations.
There are a few album plugins that work for groups. BP Gallery by buddydev.com works as far as I know and BP Media is scheduled to have this functionality as well.
Members could create new locations by creating new groups.
Remember to change the groups slug to locations:
https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/changing-internal-configuration-settings/And modifying group labels to locations with a language file:
https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/customizing-labels-messages-and-urls/You’ll probably have to do some theme modding as well.

KeymasterThere should be hooks in BuddyPress Links to accomplish what you’re after.
You’ll have to dive through the documentation and the source code though.

KeymasterCheck out the bp_profile_field_data() function (located in bp-xprofile/bp-xprofile-templatetags.php):
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.2.8/bp-xprofile/bp-xprofile-templatetags.php#L551It takes “user_id” as a parameter.
Since you’re referring to the topic template, you’ll need to use a custom function to grab the topic poster ID since a native one doesn’t exist in BP at the moment. Here’s a post I made awhile back that will help:
https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/how-to-display-the-user-post-count-in-topic-php#post-92596Also luvs, be aware that the people who post on these support forums are volunteers who take time out of their day to help the community.

Memberis buddypress-links i’ve hack the plugin to create a dribbble plugin, but i need to put again the original :S
something happen when i’ve do the replacement couse the plugin is activated but cant acces to the admin panel. Is there another easy way to do it?May 27, 2011 at 6:32 pm #113201In reply to: Please give me your oppinions – I broke the rules.

KeymasterYou can do whatever you want with your theme. However, since you’re not using a child theme of bp-default, your theme subsequently will not receive any updates for bugs or features when a new version of BuddyPress is released. You’d then have to manually check over new BuddyPress releases and merge them into your custom theme. A lot of BP functionality is tied to the theme (AJAX, JS), so hopefully you’re aware of that.
Re: labels – I’m guessing you mean the BuddyPress localization strings. The BP localization strings are convenient if a user is already using the BuddyPress language file, but you’re happy to run with your own theme language file as well.
It sounds like you’re doing a lot of modding to the original bp-default theme, so since you seem happy with this approach you should be fine.

KeymasterIf you duplicated and renamed the function and add_action, you’d also need to add some javascript, so WP will recognize the new AJAX function.
Check out the following lines in in /bp-default/_inc/global.js:
https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.2.8/bp-themes/bp-default/_inc/global.js#L607May 27, 2011 at 6:15 pm #113198In reply to: Please give me your oppinions – I broke the rules.

MemberThere is no selling or ripping of credits. The CSS header and all the comments still state “Originally done by, modified and changed by”
What you stated makes me look like I am taking the work for my own, when in fact I am sticking with GPL and still giving credit where required.it does, in my mind – I would rather have it associated with the theme name I gave it so that people who are looking at the backed see my “branding” as you put it, instead of the default. In no way am I trying to say – I created this.
Also from my experimenting bp_ has to stay it calls core functions from the plugin. where as buddypress went and became social

ParticipantYea, I would but im working on multiple projects at the moment and nonetheless unfamiliar with bp codex. I mainly work with social networks api’s. (also didn’t take me long to do, so I don’t feel it’s worth compensation)
Hmm, Im unsure alice, since I don’t have a buddypress site of my own. So Im not aware of the photo gallery plugin code.
I can suggest commenting out the jquery in the header.php and if the problem persists then it isn’t the code I supplied.comment code: stop the code from running
right after the start script tag
`<!–`
and right before the closing tag
`–>`*Edited
I looked over the bp codex and it’s quite simple, I’ll have a functioning plugin available sometime tomorrow.May 27, 2011 at 4:04 pm #113188In reply to: Get Logged In Username

ParticipantNo, you are doing it right then(assuming you are using some sort of PHp exec plugin for wordpress as wp will not allow including raw php). Doing independent page will need extra care to include wp-load.php and not a very good idea.
in the current case, just double check that you have enabled BuddyPress plugin. I don’t see any other reason of the error.

Memberi am adding the page by going to the pages section in the dashboard and simply adding a new page. In the html for that page i embed a php file. That makes the php page independent of buddypress.
I guess a better way of looking at it would be, if i accessed an independant php page, how could i make it return the user id of buddypress.

Participantwell, In that case, some more questions will help.
1. how do you create a buddypress page? from wordpress admin? from theme, have you added a new component as I don’t see other way to add a page in buddypress
2. Is the page opened using wordpress/is coming inside wordpress (seems to me iT is not )
3. Or is the page independent of wordpress, you are loading that page(php) directly inside the browser ?May 27, 2011 at 3:42 pm #113184In reply to: Get Logged In Username

Memberi created a buddypress page and that page embeds a php file to display, for testing purposes i just want that to display the users id. the file is called myphp.php and i have it in the buddypress directory.
im new to php so i’m not sure how to do this. i feel like im supposed to include one of buddypress’s php files in order to call the function.
so to answer your question, i guess neither?
