    Hi @Stacy, thanks! Is the code written correctly? When I copied it into bp-custom in Dreamweaver it said the code was invalid. Thanks so much, though.

    @brooker I followed the advice in this link and it worked. I, too, am using 1.2.8

    well, that (velomash) will not help much unfortunatelly .. nor will the required fields be cheked or the information for all group fields saved to the database!
    Buddypress is so damn buggy on this one, wonder if they really thought of the purpose of implementing those fileds without proper connection to teh registration form; who the h* (sorry!) will go to fill in the fields if not requested upon registration?

    This is not quite as straightforward as it ought to be (given that you want to keep the Log In button, which is rendered by the same function). Put the following in your plugins/bp-custom.php file:

    function bbg_customize_adminbar_hooks() {
    remove_action( 'bp_adminbar_menus', 'bp_adminbar_login_menu', 2 );
    }
    add_action( 'bp_loaded', 'bbg_customize_adminbar_hooks', 999 );

    function bbg_adminbar_login_menu() {
    global $bp;

    if ( is_user_logged_in() )
    return false;

    echo '<li class="bp-login no-arrow"><a>root_domain . '/wp-login.php?redirect_to=' . urlencode( $bp->root_domain ) . '">' . __( 'Log In', 'buddypress' ) . '</a></li>';
    }
    add_action( 'bp_adminbar_menus', 'bbg_adminbar_login_menu', 2 );

    Here’s a bit more about bp-custom.php, in case you haven’t used it before https://codex.buddypress.org/extending-buddypress/bp-custom-php/

    No, it’s a single site install. Version 3.1.2, now all other plugins and themes are disabled. Still no sign of BuddyPress.

    #111992

    I just tried scrubbing the remote folder of buddypress, and reuploading a fresh folder from my Dropbox. The plugin doesn’t show up under the list of those available to the WordPress installation.

    @mercime Ok I installed the Cosmic Buddy update and it hasn’t solved my problem :( Just like before, all the “Reply”, “Favourite! etc buttons were gone and I had to add them in manually. I added the code for the reply button and it didn’t work.

    any reason you’re not just using the standard wp_insert_user() function? what does buddypress do that’s different than the standard wordpress signup?

    I’m curious because I’m in the process of doing the same thing as the OP (although was planning on just using the default wordpress functionality, which I have working for my system – but the next step is to migrate the code so that it uses buddypress as well)…

    http://www.bpinspire.com/ is definitely coolest site for getting some BP inspiration, didn’t know about this site…

    @mercime ,thanks for sharing :)

    Hmm.. I feel like I’m not explaining it right, or maybe I don’t understand something. I found a lot of posts on how to truncate the activity feed, but what they are describing as the activity feed doesn’t sound like what I’m talking about… I’m sure someone has asked this question, so I feel like I’m not asking it right.

    Maybe if someone looked at my page, they would understand what I mean?

    Here’s a link. Under the Featured Articles Lite box, the first post is hundreds of words long.

    http://www.thejoplinvoice.com/

    I know that there is the “Insert More Tag” when you are actually posting an article, but my site will allow anyone that’s a registered member to post articles on the main page. This could cause trouble if I can’t figure out a way to truncate posts after a certain number of words. It’s not a big deal if someone wants to write a novel in a post… but if it displays the full novel on my front page, my website is doomed. I can’t trust that people will be able to figure out what that button does on their own.

    I really feel like I’m not asking the question correctly. Because it seems like this option should be an option in the buddypress menu, I feel like I’m just a noob and I don’t know what I’m looking for.

    Thanks again for any help you can provide.

    Hmm unfortunately, that still did not work. Thanks for all your help thus far guys. Here is how my problem originated:

    I recently transferred my site from the default ”/wordpress/” sub directory to my root directory. Everything works fine in BuddyPress except for the LOGOUT and LOGIN menu options from the BuddyPress menu bar (up at the top).

    Upon looking at the URL that the logout and login tries to redirect to (in the tag), it still thinks it is in the ”/wordpress” subdirectory and the thus results in a Error 404 – Page Not Found problem.

    I’ve search various ways to do this but people have either not have found a solution or seem to not have posted it. I originally thought I could just use the ‘Add All Nav Links to Admin Bar’ plugin (https://buddypress.org/community/groups/add-all-nav-links-to-bp-adminbar/) and hide the Login and Sign Up options but unfortunately the “Log Out” still remains since it is under the ‘My Account’.

    Any help would be much appreciated, thanks.

    I think it will be easier a plugin that :

    1) Lock Buddypress to non registred users
    2) Allow to configure the welcome page as facebook does, with login area for registred, and register fields for non members and backgrounds, info, links on this welcome page.
    3) After the register process, show a page to upload avatar or skip this step.

    @4ella Yep. I’m having the same issue

    == Eveyrytime I create a new site (I’m running multisites on WordPress) Buddypress creates a tab named Community. ==

    This is not default behavior. Causes for this may be
    – you’re using a theme that generates a community tab – change to bp-default theme to see difference, or
    – you installed WP/BP in subdirectory of site named community, or
    – you have WP multisite and defined BP in subsite named community.

    == “Sorry, Not Found, Error 404 ==

    https://codex.buddypress.org/troubleshooting/navigation-links-return-404-errors/

    == Can anyone tell me how to fix this? ==

    Change theme to bp-default and deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress and see if your site is working like default installation like http://testbp.org

    @ultimateuser @sameast I hacked together a widget in my functions.php using the Grunion Contact Form
    `function custom_buddypress_member_contact($args) {
    global $bp;
    extract($args); // Make before_widget, etc available.
    echo $before_widget;
    echo $before_title . __(‘Contact Me’,TEMPLATE_DOMAIN) . $after_title;
    echo do_shortcode(‘[contact-form widget=2 to=”‘.$bp->displayed_user->userdata->user_email.'” subject=”(‘ . get_option( ‘blogname’ ) . ‘) question” show_subject=”yes” ]’);
    echo $after_widget;
    }

    wp_register_sidebar_widget(‘BuddyPress_Contact_Form’, ‘BuddyPress Contact Form’, ‘custom_buddypress_member_contact’, array(‘description’ => ‘BuddyPress Member Contact Form’));
    `

    @ARHistoryHub , mine doesn’t seem to work, i have the latest version running too on everything, that could be the problem though…it’s outdated now. i’d donate for a new plugin to be made like this.

    here’s my workaround for this problem

    https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/multiple-profile-group-fields-in-registration/?_wpnonce=98e520cdd5#post-98202

    as no buddypress gurus EVER botherd to give a feedback on this, and left everyone here in the dark for more than 1 year

    the above still sucks of course (or rather the whole registration process for buddypress sucks!), anyway, the above code will unfortunatelly NOT validate the fields! So it would be possible for a user to register without filling those fields in …

    Yeah, you tell me how happy I was as I realized that!
    1 more day lost with this s*, but eventually found a workaround (I am sure it’s not the perfect solution, but at least it’s SOMETHING!)

    So in order to have the required fields really checked, please add this to your header:

    `

    $(document).ready(function() {
    $(“#signup_form”).validate();
    });

    `
    where signup_form is the id of your form (

    ). If your form has an other id please remember to change accordingly.

    Now go to each form field in your form and add this class:

    ` class=”” `

    example:
    ` <input type="text" name="” id=”” value=”” class=””/> `

    And VERY important, around line 150, see that you have added this piece of code (basically replacing / expanding that `<input type="hidden" name="signup_profile_field_ids" id="signup_profile_field_ids" value="” />`)

    `

    <input type="hidden" name="signup_profile_field_ids" id="signup_profile_field_ids" value="” />`

    So that was it, now it should work. Unlike the buddypress gurus out there, I didn’t want to leave any of you in “half darkness”, so I came back to post the solution I found.

    I hope it will help you, even though it’s just a workaround, and I am 100% sure there must be a much more elegant solution than this.

    But as I said, as the buddypress gurus could not care less about poor users who struggle to get that bpress working as it should, a “second best” solution is always better than NO solution!

    This issue hasn’t been addressed yet. See:
    https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3099

    It’s probably best to keep backups in the meantime.

    So, just a few hours ago, Boone just added a ticket with patch (https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/3205) to make this very easy. If any of you could go test this, then add any feedback, that would be great. The patch is for 1.3, but you should be able to make it work on 1.2.x.
