In reply to: Buddypress upgrade 1.1.2 to 1.2.8

ParticipantWell I think the only problem was the theme. The theme used in 1.1.2 was that parent child thing. When I put the bp-default from 1.2.8 in everything works (so far). However everything REALLY looks bad. so off to themeville. Still wonder about splog signups, do I need to do anything?

Participant@DJPaul @nexia Thanks for the replies guys.
The only thing in my footer is a tag cloud widget which is the generic one built into wordpress?
I have deactivated all plugins when the new password is set and that doesn’t help and this occurs in EVERY theme so it’s not my theme.
It’s really bizarre. I’m going to get Boris to take a look over FTP but if we can’t find anything would you guys be prepared to take a look?
One thing I have noticed is that with the MYSQL DB for this site, there are no users attached to it, so it is just one DB and one password for it. On my other sites the install seems to have created a user for the DB which is set the same in wp-config so that even when you change your main passwords the user password is unchanged and therefore you don’t have to edit wp-config.
Saying this I’ve tried setting up a user and changed the details in wp-config to match and the problem still persists. The entire site works except for the footer not showing.
Bloody odd.
You can see the site and footer showing at the mo at http://www.actonthis.co

Member@pjries Okay actually I’m confused by the bit you said was important. When you wrote
`CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS tablename_bb_forums`did you mean I should insert the wp_???_ bit ? Or whatever the prefix used in other tables?
I think that’s what you meant, so would the command look like this?
`CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `wp_i28ycb_bb_forums` (
`forum_id` int(10) NOT NULL auto_increment,
`forum_name` varchar(150) NOT NULL default ”,
`forum_slug` varchar(255) NOT NULL default ”,
`forum_desc` text NOT NULL,
`forum_parent` int(10) NOT NULL default 0,
`forum_order` int(10) NOT NULL default 0,
`topics` bigint(20) NOT NULL default 0,
`posts` bigint(20) NOT NULL default 0,
PRIMARY KEY (`forum_id`),
KEY `forum_slug` (`forum_slug`)
);

ParticipantUpdate your permalink settings and user pretty urls. No need to mess with .htaccess. Just use a custom structure like:
/%category%/%postname%/
And press save.. done

ParticipantDid you try with the default BP theme? If that woks OK, then you’ll need to check the changes you made to footer.php

I’m answering your update here ‘cuz code doesn’t post well in update replies…
Make sure “ is present in your footer.php file, just before the closing “ tag. Your adminbar should come back.March 22, 2011 at 8:31 pm #108457drwebstein
MemberI see that one of the CUNY Academic Commons groups has a tab that another group does not:
http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/games-teaching-and-learning/ – has a “Visit Blog” tab
http://commons.gc.cuny.edu/groups/gc-comp-rhet-area-group/ – does not have a “Visit Blog” tab
This makes is seem as if it is possible to show different tabs to different groups within a single BuddyPress installation, but I want to confirm whether this can be applied to all different types of tabs or if it is functionality that is specific to the blog that can be tied to a specific BP group.
Thanks,

MemberFitz, LMS’s would be yet another good purpose for roles in buddypress. Not sure why we’re not getting a response here. Seems like a big issue.

MemberBecause my entire site is setup around buddypress. i have alot of plugins like achievements; cube points etc and i really like the messaging system of buddypress. After all the configuring of my website i would hate to ditch buddypress already when members are just getting use to it.

ParticipantDid you change your theme? If so, make sure the call to wp_footer is present in footer.php of the new theme.

Participant@pcwriter … my goal is not to use the original adminbar, but to integrate the whole content of the BP-adminbar into the original WP-adminbar instead of replacing it… making it more compatible with 3.1…
btw, i did it… will release it on my site for support… until BP do the same!

ParticipantThanks – I will give it another try (I backed it out already). I have some people that did work on their blogs that want to use it again so I did not want to clean out their work. related question; is the splogger situation better (thats what killed it for me originally) I would like to moderate any new registration and keep the spammers away.
Thanks again for your help.

Kind of defeats the whole point, no?
