1. I installed buddypress.
2. I created a group
3. I try to create a topic and I get this error : “This group does not have a forum setup yet.”

The View link or time stamp permalink in any activity in my buddypress does not work, and leads to a page where only the header is loaded.
I tried deactivating all the plugins except buddypress and when I deactivated the Template Pack it worked (only it shows all over the place cause the lack of the template pack).
I am using a custom theme, wich needs the plugin.
¿Is there any easy fix?
I’m using WordPress 3.3.2 and Buddypress 1.5.5
All of the other permalinks work fine (I even changed them a couple of times).
Its a new manual instalation in the root of my domain.

@zillabuggs have never installed any WP/BP on Windows because of many possible issues. Adding “Windows server” to title of this topic even it’s possible that it’s not a server issue.

To clarify, do the members actually get to publish that group forum topic in the first place? As in, do they see a message that the forum post was successfully published after they post similar to what you see happen when you post here – “Your reply was posted successfully”?

What specific relevance does the Groups Directory (?) page have to do with your issue?
What theme are you using?
@mrguythornton – Firstly, the mods are human too and do make mistakes, if they do mark it as resolved when your not confident that it is then just say so and @ one of them asking them to remove it. The mods are actually kind people (unless your a spammer). Also, not sure if your aware of this, but to mark a post as resolved the mods simply edit the title to say so – your welcome to remove it easily by clicking ‘edit topic’ and removing it. (if your the one who started the thread)
Anyways, now that that’s out of the way – “ is how you would get the URL to the loggedin user’s profile. (you’d have to code it deliberately though, i don’t think it’s easy to add it to WordPress’ custom menu.)
Something like this will (should?) work.

Displayed userID: bp_displayed_user_id(); returns the user id for the user that is currently being displayed.
Avatar uploads aren’t supported on BuddyPress.org. Hopefully the site will be updated eventually so that option disappears. If you want a custom avatar here, you’ll need to use gravatar.com

I created my own bp-custom.php and placed the code
`define( ‘BP_ENABLE_USERNAME_COMPATIBILITY_MODE’, true );` into the file, now my profile’s edit link works like a charm. Thanks for posting this issue a while back.
@shanebp No, that’s not it because the images looked great after uploading and prior to cropping. It was only after the page reloaded after cropping that they looked pixilated. And as I said earlier, I verified that the images after cropping were 650×250. And also, I’d still be having the issue if your guess was correct. I can’t explain why this worked but it did the trick. The server limits would take care of images too large anyways.

@xenoflare There are many “BuddyPress-ready” themes which have not been updated for a while.
I suggest that you install Theme Check plugin and the Log Deprecated Notices plugin. The first plugin tests your theme and make sure it’s up to spec with the latest WP theme review standards. The second plugin identifies if there are deprecated functions being used in the theme and if so, offers the alternative if available.
The two plugins above will help prevent headaches if things go awry in your installation.

Thank you for the suggestion. I just went ahead and picked a theme that had BuddyPress built in. I’m having other issues, but the BuddyPress aspect is working great! Anyways, thanks again. BuddyPress is really awesome, but my WordPress skills are limited at this point.

Please do not mark this as resolved resolved before reading. I’ve read through all the similar topics to this but have not been able to implement them. I know I’m certainly not alone here. I’m looking for the simplest way possible to add a single link to a logged in users profile to a custom nav bar.
Since the link is different (unique) for each user I can’t just use the custom menu. I’ve been trying to sort this issue for ages but have had no success. Any help would be very much appreciated.
The best solution would simply be to add the link to the existing custom menu but I don’t know where to add it. Any ideas please?
Alternatively, perhaps it would be easier to have no navigation bar and add the link in a static block. Unfortunately, I tried this and it did not work. However, if anyone can make it work, that would do just fine.

I’m using a website running on the BuddyPress Default theme. How do you change the color of h1 in style.css? If I understand it correctly you have to use slightly different code depending on the theme?
@shanebp, the crop tool produces any aspect ratio you choose. With my bp-custom modifications, the crop tool produces 650x250px images just fine with the exception of the image quality. Something is reducing the quality. I thought @djpaul was on to something and might still be, but his suggestion didn’t fix it.

At the moment it saves the other settings, but I have to select the blog every time

Thanks for replying @shanebp and @djpaul. I tried the JPG Image Quality plugin but that made no difference. The image compression is way less than 90% of the original image quality. I set it to 100 and the image looks the same. I’m uploading JPGs at various sizes. As I’ve said, I have pre-cropped to the exact size at 72 and 300 dpi with no success. I’ve also tried using uncropped images that are 3000px wide. Here’s my bp-custom.php code as requested:

I am trying to test the latest version of BuddyPress. Everything works perfectly.
I bent on changing the profile with the addition of additional fields (age, city, color etc. ..)
I would like to display this data in a new page (in more than BuddyPress profile) but I’m trying the methods I know of no avail.

I guess it must be a wordpress loop problem but I hold.

How can the admin activate these users?

Thanks mercime, it seems to be caused by the plugin BP Group Hierarchy. I deactivated the plugin and the problem was gone. If the plugin has support, I will ask there.

The favorite/un-favorite button leads to the Not Found/404 template instead of triggering the javascript.

I’m using BuddyPress 1.5.5 and WordPress 3.3.2. The theme I’m using is a child theme of a custom BuddyPress compatible theme. Compatibility is done via BP Template Pack.
This feature has worked before with the custom parent theme, but I don’t know what could’ve caused this error. Updating to BuddyPress 1.5.5 or updating the parent theme?

I wanted to get this fixed on a clone of Microglobalscope, but for brevity’s sake, I’ll just work on the main site. Microglobalscope.org
In regards to your sanity check…I have installed WP at domain root Microglobalscope.org and made it multisite. I did NOT create a physical subdirectory and install WP there. Just a standard WPMU site creation through the dashboard. So if you go to microglobalscope.org/sydney and log in it redirects you back to Microglobalscope.org instead of the sydney site.
Does this make more sense now?
