In reply to: How to Remove Admin Bar from Buddypress 1.1

Participanthttps://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/modifying-the-buddypress-admin-bar/
Note: if you put the remove action / add action etc in functions.php (rather than bp-custom.php) then you don’t need to wrap them in a function.

ParticipantYou will need to create pages (in your wp-admin backend), and perhaps design bespoke page templates (html / php) if you want to enhance the basic layout of these pages. You would then implement your navigation menu to link to these pages.
This is WordPress rather than BuddyPress specific, so you will be best to visit the WordPress help pages:

ParticipantI wish to have something like “WHO is already using it” on buddypress.org. When you click it you are redirected to “https://buddypress.org/showcase/” . The “showcase” is not available as ‘Page” in the nav system. Similarly i want to have a link but not through the nav system . I have not used WP so can’t comment on their similarity but should be similar i guess.

KeymasterPer my comment on that guy’s blog, it’s not been built as a child theme, which is mad.

ParticipantHave a read through of this page:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/Which explains how to proceed and it’s actually a lot simpler than might at first be thought.
If it’s still not clear post back and someone can walk you through the steps you don’t understand.July 13, 2010 at 12:09 pm #85408rodgerbailey

Participant@hnla could you provide an example of how to create a “child theme”? I am new to the WordPress/PHP community so I’m learning as I go here.

Participant@hnla I don’t believe the PHP is still parsing… it seems to be working as intended. Having the “unnecessary” markup in source view is fine by me as it helps me to remember what I need to do whenever I upgrade. Thanks again for your assistance!

ParticipantWhat are these links for that you wish to create?
The WP pages tie into that nav system so creating a new WP ‘Page’ will automagically appear in that set of li elements.
It sounds to me that you are wanting to create pages, and just need to bear in mind that WP still functions in much the same way as you would be used to without BP activated.
Edit/ I removed your duplicate post as requested.

Participant@dwenaus Hi mate, I asked you a couple of months back if there was a way to remove the rank of forum topics in the forums directory and you kindly gave me some info in the codex to look at in regards to removing the action but I’m struggling a bit with removing the correct code from the plugin.
Do you know what code it is exactly that I need to take away to get rid of the hook to the ranking?
Sorry to ask again but I’m pretty new to code and can’t seem to get it right.
Thanks
Ross

Participant@hnla Thanks! I accomplished this by commenting the corresponding lines in my theme’s header.php like so:
*EDIT: hmm… guess bbcode doesn’t work on these forums. I took a screenshot of the solution in case anyone is interested: http://img715.imageshack.us/img715/4051/hideactivitystream.png

ParticipantIn what sense “but i don’t know what this is”
Have you simply tried selecting one of the other options in the set of available permalink structures, selecting one of these other than ‘default’ causes the system to have to create and write to the .htaccess file.
Can you try – if you haven’t already – selecting another permalink option and clicking ‘save’ and report back what the screen returns as a message.
