Participant@gregfielding I agree with everything you wrote on your plugin request post.
@brajesh Thanks for coming up with a solution.

Currently, I think that it is not wise to use Private-Groups as those are not working really perfect yet….

Keymaster@DJPaul – editing my own posts work now, it wasn’t working about an hour ago. Andy’s been busy!

Other issues:
– Hyperlinks in the “About Me” profile description need to be nofollow’d to prevent SEO spam.
– Group avatars do not workApril 24, 2010 at 11:23 pm #75034Paul Wong-Gibbs
Keymaster@r-a-y You can edit your own posts. At the moment, none of the moderators have moderator powers in any of the groups, so maybe you were looking at someone else’s post?

KeymasterYou need to ask the plugin’s author which you can do on https://buddypress.org/community/groups/buddypress-group-forum-extras/

ParticipantI think what you’re saying is that, for example, in Forum posts: if you’re a logged in member of a private/hidden group, you should see private/hidden posts in the overall Forum Index, and obviously, nonmembers would see the same Index minus the private posts. I agree that this seems like it should be the logical default in BP. On my site, keeping private/hidden posts it creates a “parallel universe” effect where users of private/hidden forums have to visit a special place to see that protected content. As a result, private/hidden forums get less usage than they should.
I have no idea if this is planned for BuddyPress, but I would put in a strong vote for it. In the meantime, it could be handled by a plugin or rewrite of code.

Participant“I noticed that the drop down list contained a couple of group names that I thought I had edited in the past. I had created 2 groups in the past with an extra word in the title that I did not want. I had edited these successfully but your plugin had picked up their original name in the DD list.”
This is unfortunately related to a BuddyPress bug – when you update group names, BuddyPress does not update all the necessary database entries. I need to look at this, but hoping BuddyPress bug fixes will make this a moot point.

ParticipantYou could create a child theme, copy the header.php file from parent theme and add the meta directly, save to child theme folder.

Keymaster@mercime – Works when you change the dropdown filter a few times.
Just discovered a usability issue on the sitewide activity stream. See my screenshot below:
http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/8599/usabilitybporg.jpgMy suggestion would be to switch the dropdown menu to the right and move the “Activity Filter” to where the dropdown menu currently is.

KeymasterCan’t edit forum posts / threads. Edit screen appears to be missing the form.
Also for the support forum directory, need to link to the last posted item. Maybe the timestamp can be linked?
For the forum directory… it might be better to use a site-wide latest discussion loop instead of separating forum posts by group.

ParticipantNeed a way for Support Group threads to be moved to the proper group. For instance, this thread should be moved to the Localization Support Group. https://buddypress.org/community/groups/creating-extending/forum/topic/creating-mo-file/#post-50310
However, there is no current, easy way to do this with the group-based support forum setup.

ParticipantSuggestion: Eliminate Automatic Joining of Public Groups
I’ve got a problem with having to join Groups to participate in the Forums for two reasons:
1. The prospect of having to join a Group is not intuitive and will intimidate users, preventing them from participating. What does it mean to join a group? Will they now be subject to group emails? Or other solicitations from within the group? There is no practical reason for this barrier to exist.
2. Groups should serve a social purpose (common interests, common goals, etc.) and joining one should MEAN something. Looking at my profile and seeing that I’m in 5 groups should tell a visitor a lot about who I am. However, in this format, I’ll end up being members of dozens of groups, when all I really want is to add to those forum discussions. In this format, the value of being in a Group is cheapened. And, there could be a couple of groups on a site that a member really wants to participate and follow, but now their activity stream is cluttered with activity from all these discussions. From a user’s perspective, these are 2 different things.
Maybe have a checkbox below your forum entry asking: “Join the __________ Group?” or “Request to Join the ______________ Group?”
