KeymasterWell if you don’t want to use BP forums, disable the forums component.. login to the WP admin area, navigate to “BuddyPress > Component setup” and disable the forums component.
Then go back to your bbPress URL to start the install.

KeymasterThis isn’t related to marcoslavorato’s problem.
Your issue can be resolved by defining the BP_ROOT_BLOG.
Read this:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/install-buddypress-on-a-secondary-blog/
Main blog would be mydomain.com
Secondary blog with BP enabled would be xyz.mydomain.com.
This would work only if you plan on having one community and not multiple communities.

ParticipantI am really looking forward for your wiki plugin from Osnabrück.
I would like to have it within my educational BuddyPress-installation at a german school in Wiesbaden.
Please give a note as soon as there will be a release – even alpha or beta will be welcome (full feedback included
).Great job so long after some testing at your ello-and-friends site.
Viele Grüße aus Wiesbaden…

ParticipantOK. I tried backtracking to set up BBpress as separate forum.
-dropped all db files with bp_ prefix
-deleted bb_config file that was in public_html
bowsed to mysite.com/forums
but I keep getting “page not found”.
Tried
-resetting buddypress setup…..
-re-installing BBpress file over the top.
– manually configuring the bb-config-sample.php file like a manual install of WP.
Alll give page not found..what am I missing in my backtrack to manual install of seperate BBpress?

Creative Modules
MemberWould this allow for the main site to not be a BuddyPress site but the main WordPress MU domain (www.mydomain.com).
Then when a new blog is created it would be it’s own buddypress private social area, lets say for company XYZ.mydomain.com.
Then employees from XYZ could come to XYZ.mydomain.com and register from there?
This is what I’m trying to do with my requirements I have. If we are looking for the same thing maybe we can help each other and forward the answer to each other when we find it.

ParticipantI think a widget of a page showing the “Most Liked” items over different time periods would be awesome! And yes, “Favorites” really does act more like “Bookmarks”.

KeymasterYou’d need to configure BP for multi-blog support:
https://codex.buddypress.org/how-to-guides/changing-internal-configuration-settings/
This is where I have a knowledge deficit.
I’ve never had to deploy a WPMU multi-site setup.
Perhaps you can contact andrea_r (https://buddypress.org/developers/andrea_r) as she’s well-versed with WPMU and multi-sites and how it works with BP.

I was actually going to try and figure out how to rename the button “Add to My Favorites”
It definitely should be a little more intuitive as to what it means…

ParticipantCan I request the ability to stick a specific forum category at the top of the category listings in your plugin?
If you’re talking about the Forum Index part of the plugin, I am not seeing this behavior?? The Forum Index lists the forums in order of forum_id number, so the oldest forum gets listed first, the newest forum gets listed last. But yeah, that is not ideal either – forum software like phpBB usually allows you to reorder forums however you want them to appear.
So I would also vote for “category reordering” on the feature wishlist for this plugin.

ParticipantWhat would be if the Like plugin adds a global “Like” Directory with Filters such as “Most Recent – Top in 24 Hr – 7 Days – 30 Days – 365 Days”.
This would definately help to find the most interesting content and would give “Like” a more concrete and useful sense.
Maybe we could talk to Andy if the “Favorite” Button could be renamed in “Bookmark” – so they wouldn’t conflict with “Like” anymore?
I don’t know how ambitious Hempsworth is to enhance “Buddypres Like” in this direction?

ParticipantAll I need now is for the ‘Home’ link in the header to point to mysite.com it currently points to mysite/wordpress
Anyone know how I change this?
The bp theme header shows
<div id="header">
<h1 id="logo"><a>" title="<?php _e( 'Home', 'buddypress' ) ?>"><?php bp_site_name() ?></a></h1>
<ul id="nav">
<li<?php if ( bp_is_front_page() ) : ?> class="selected"<?php endif; ?>>
<a>" title="<?php _e( 'Home', 'buddypress' ) ?>"><?php _e( 'Home', 'buddypress' ) ?></a>So presumably (says she with little knowledge) I need to change this to something else?

ParticipantI have long thought that the breaking down of silos such as Facebook and Twitter to a more distrubuted system would make sense although they do form an easy entry and an openly(?) available area that can be used for public messaging.
My solution is to have an intermediary that can be configured to allow messages to be passed through to other systems according to a security setting that can be applied at admin or user level as required. Additionaly I thought that a similar configuration could be used for discovery of users – e.g. you could set yourself up as only available on your server, someone else might want to be available to a group and yet someone else would be publicly available.
In such a setup your users would only need to sign on once – to the server that they belong and would then be able to see any other user that is a trusted server in the group. In your case the security issues would be minor as you are on the same host although I can see that there may be a need to encrypt transmissions if it were open net traffic.
I am working on this now although don’t have anything to show you yet – will be more than happy to do so when there is a version for testing if you want

ParticipantThis could be done but the issue would be security as you are grabbing data across domains.
I figured that would be an issue and it is important. In my case the sites are all on the same hosting account, so only the database connections would be slightly different. Everything happens on the server. I don’t think any user data would have to be pushed or pulled across http. And in any security issue you have to weigh security against convenience to the user; my sites are not banking sites.
A third party single sign-on solution is not the same as offering single sign-on within your own network of sites. I do use the Facebook Login on my sites and think it’s pretty cool, but personally I’m not a fan of Facebook and it’s not going to be The Standard forever. Should I add Twitter Login? LinkedIn login? OpenID seems to be going nowhere. There will never be one web standard that you can implement and be done with it.
@gmax21, the multiblog approach could work if you start from scratch, but it sounds like you’d run into all kinds of other thorny issues if you add different projects over time and later decide you want to give users access to those other projects. It sounds complicated and unwieldy to do everything in one installation.

I do have role manager running access to pages nicely via wishlist member…..and I need something to bridge to protect forums by role.

ParticipantI have checked the above instructions. I’m using the above code and my site is sorted except for the ‘Home’ Page.
All my links, BuddyPress and the pre-existing WordPress links all open on the correct page except the ‘Home Page.
I’m using BuddyPress default theme and when I activated it. it created a ‘Home’ tag that goes straight to the Mysite/WordPress folder and lists its content.
I’ve created a static ‘Home’ page, and this to has created a ‘Home’ tag in the header that does actually go to the home page.
So, currently, I’ve got two ‘Home’ links in my header, an incorrect one taking me to a folder list, and a correct one taking me to my home page.
Is there a way of getting rid of the default home page, just leaving me with the new one I’ve created?

KeymasterTry this:

Or you can use an invite plugin – the invite code would be the answer and you manually need to add the question yourself.

ParticipantThe Homepage link previously went direct to mysite.com and all my pages or blogs were at mysite.com/pagename.
Now all the new BuddyPress pages go to mysite/wordpress/buddypresspage That’s OK
All my previous pages and blogs still go to mysite/pagename That’s OK
The only problem is my ‘Homepage’ which was showing my most recent blogs but now shows mysite/wordpress
To be honest, I don’t know what would have happened if I’d gone to mysite/wordpress before, because nothing ever went to it!
Just worked out that if I change ‘Settings – Reading’ to ‘Static Page’ instead of ‘Latest Posts’ then the ‘Home’ Link will go to it, so will use that as a work around for now. Would still like to get my home page back to ‘Latest Posts’ though.

ParticipantCan I request the ability to stick a specific forum category at the top of the category listings in your plugin?
Right now, when a new post is added to a category, that category is bumped to the top on the forum homepage listing. I would much prefer they were organized via name with the ability to stick a category. This makes it much easier for returning people to find the category they are after, especially with forums that have hundreds of categories.
I actually like how the forum index page shows the newest posts on top, that is cool. I just don’t want the category listings doing the same thing is all. anyhow.. just a suggestion
