ParticipantI don’t know how to integrate the others into wordpress/buddypress, but you could still disable the forum component in buddypress and use the other features.

ParticipantIts easy to use yes Squirrel, but what it doesn’t do is solve the CSS issues, and that got too tricky. In the end it was easier to use a buddypress template and adapt it to my purposes

Haven’t tested it though.

KeymasterBuddyPress utilizes bbPress only for the groups component.
This doesn’t limit you from using using phpBB or vBulletin!
There are a few scripts out there that can integrate phpBB and vBulletin into WordPress.
I’d suggest checking those out.

ParticipantMy registration link is broken too. I’m using the latest versions of everything (WPMU), no active plugins except BuddyPress and WordPress.com Stats, no custom language, and the default theme. Any ideas?

ParticipantThanks Xevo
I did try with the standard buddypress them and my register page still dont show up
I guess that it means that the problem is not due to my theme
http://www.gaysurfers.net/register
i still get a white page with the logo from ‘register plus plugin’ even though it has been deactivated..
Any idea?

rich! @ etiviti
ParticipantAt first, after saving the new settings, I got the WP page that prompted me that I needed correct password etc to create database.
I’m not sure what would cause this. Is this a MU thing? (i’m only on single) I’m not creating any new tables/etc just using the add/update_option to store some metadata.
and other new plugin-generated group functions like creating group blogs and group wikis, etc.
i’ll definitely add some more cap levels to plugin steps in some future release.

Xevo
ParticipantTry using the standard buddypress theme and see if your register page shows up.
Deactivating a plugin not always deletes everything (like stuff in the database).
Doubt your servers log file is saying “The register page (www.gaysurfers.net/register) is broken”.

MemberYesterday I discovered that if I use the links from the last page of bp template thingie:
Navigation Links
You may want to add new navigation tabs or links to your theme to link to BuddyPress directory pages. The default set of links are:
* Activity: http://templeofthewayoflight.org/wp/activity/
* Members: http://templeofthewayoflight.org/wp/members/
* Groups: http://templeofthewayoflight.org/wp/groups/
* Forums: http://templeofthewayoflight.org/wp/forums/
* Register: http://templeofthewayoflight.org/wp/register/ (registration must be enabled)
These do work and use my customized index.php from the folders in my theme file. I have no idea where the bar gets the urls and why it ignores my cutomisation.
I might not want to use the bar anyway, but even if I create a menu of my own I would like to be able to use the more specified links in the bar aside from the standard ones, ie all the subthings, and just copying and paste those obviously wont work.
Is there any widget one can use that has the same things that are in the buddypress bar?

March 9, 2010 at 9:56 am #67354In reply to: BuddyPress Restrict Group Creation
@mercime
Participant@etiviti (rich!) Thank you for the plugin. I have been looking at ways to do this exactly to control the group creation and other new plugin-generated group functions like creating group blogs and group wikis, etc.
I have just uploaded it to test install and set roles/capabilities to level manage_options in all fields given i.e. Site Admin for that install. At first, after saving the new settings, I got the WP page that prompted me that I needed correct password etc to create database. So I went back to wp-admin and this plugin’s settings were still default settings. The second time I input manage_options and saved the settings, it finally went through. So far, initial testing shows results I’ve wanted for this setup. Will be testing the plugin again later.
Thanks again

ParticipantI’ve just tried Boone’s plugin that Dwenaus linked above, and after editing the template files as noted in the readme (more or less — the line numbers have changed, of course), it seems to work.
So far I can’t get inlining to work with uploaded image attachments, though, which was what I was aiming for. Bummer.
It may be an artifact of dev on a local xammp install maybe, because I’ve got URLs for the attachment icons like “http://localhost.localdomain/devsiteD:/xampp/htdocs/devsite/wp-content/plugins/forum-attachments-for-buddypress/icons/img.gif”, I’m not sure. Link for the ‘uploaded’ image is fine, just no inline….
Will investigate, in my semi- but mostly incompetent way.

Participant@ hnla: Making a website for an app is actually not nessecairy especially since people might wanna change the looks of the theme. An app also first has to be certified by apple to be placed in the app store. The only advantage it could have is it being faster than by using the internet.
@ Modemlooper: Will you also make it wp single, or just for wpmu? Don’t mind making it wp single when you’re ready.

btw it’s a great effort, looks like a lot of work has gone into achieving that layout!

ParticipantActually, it seems this functionality was never there in the first place. Allowing users to be able to search for specific posts through the drop down search is a critical element. Any ideas on how to provide this feature? I wonder why Buddypress doesn’t provide that option.

ParticipantHmmm….I don’t think so, that is getting fairly hairy. For one, I don’t think we can pull in buddypress function in your mapped domain. Also I noticed your install is not on abc.com but on 123.abc.com. So you are already installed in a subdomain. That’s maybe one reason why the plugin is trying to make blogs like xyz.123.abc.com instead xyz.abc.com.
We will look into to it however, but domain mapping might be beyond the scope of this plugin. I would almost think that external group blogs plugin would be a better fit as it relies on rss. But we are not giving up yet!

ParticipantI’d love to be able to extend Achievements for a new BP site I’m building for an established community site I run (as well as run it on the previous BP site I’ve used it on); basically we have a Member of The Week award that each holder nominates a new person for. It’d be great to be able to leverage Achievements for that, basically to allow me as admin to make arbitrary awards to users as well as the unlockable ones.
Waiting as always with bated breath for the new version!
