ModeratorI think I’d be tempted to raise this as a bug on trac:
May 3, 2018 at 9:35 am #272639mubiesam
Participant@vapvarun did change to activate BuddyPress at the network level, but only https://lt.johocen.com/ will not display the toolbar, the other 2 sites are OK.
Will it be conflict with the theme used? where should i look into?
Your suggestion is highly appreciated.

ModeratorYep something is making your BP areas private for sure. BuddyPress for example on it’s own makes yoursite.com/members a public page, to make it private, like your’s is, you’d need to add a plugin – bp does not even have a setting for it.

Participant@venutius you were right on the money! This worked. Now a member can see their Friends menu item even when they’re on another member’s profile but without having access to the other member’s friends. And you said it was gonna be difficult. Hah! 🙂
Thank you yet again!function hide_friends_tab() { global $bp; if ( !bp_is_my_profile() && !is_super_admin() ) { bp_core_remove_nav_item( 'friends' ); bp_core_new_nav_item( array( 'name' => __('Friends', 'buddypress'), 'slug' => $bp->friends->slug, 'position' => 50, 'show_for_displayed_user' => false, 'default_subnav_slug' => 'friends' )); } } add_action( 'bp_setup_nav', 'hide_friends_tab', 15 );May 2, 2018 at 6:45 pm #272614Norman Cates
ParticipantI don’t understand.
Isn’t all the xProfle extra information part of Buddypress?
I haven’t installed an extra plugin that has anything to do with xProfiles.
AFAIK.

ParticipantI just disabled BuddyPress from the Network > Dashboard > Plugins
and the registration page started working. It was showing BuddyPress fields and I was wondering how this could be happening since I just disabled it.
I checked out the main sites plugins and BuddyPress is activated there. So my question is, could it have been double activated? Once on the website and once in the network? I have a multisite operation. Where should it be activated? Network or on the actual site?

ParticipantThanks for writing, @chuxmark. I wish I could help you but I still don’t have a solution myself. I’d appreciate if someone from @buddypress was available to help, especially since this problem appears to be widespread.

ParticipantI just tested out that action and it worked!
However, when I go to the members’ search page it’s using the 50px x 50px image, causing distortion: http://mobileweb.guru/webdev/crowdwel/members/.
Also, when I upload an avatar it changes the filename changes. I believe it is important to have keywords in the image file name, so why does BuddyPress change the file name? And is there a way to customize the alt tag of the images?
Thank you for your time,
James

Participant@mrditt
You can switch in real time.
Mailgun will send email sent to WordPress or any other plugins including BuddyPress.
Mailgun has a free slot and paid stot, based on usages you can increase your plan.
When someone sends a message to Adam (just random username), Adam will get an email notification as well.You can find the doc here https://codex.buddypress.org/emails/
It will help you disable all bp emails, alter them and disable some emails based on their actions.May 2, 2018 at 1:56 pm #272604In reply to: Registration Page 404

ParticipantTry to save register page again inside BuddyPress settings and save permalinks again as well.
To debug the issues, you can deactivate additional plugin at your staging/development site and keep only BuddyPress active.May 2, 2018 at 1:24 pm #272600graphitewp2
ParticipantThank you Paul for commenting. I wish I was clearer.
I was referring to the Log In and Register buttons on the admin bar (which is Buddypress) in the top left.
Im using this to disable BuddyPress’ registration process and fallback to WordPress. I want to merely change the link of the Log In button so it goes to my custom login page. How do you go about doing it?
<?php /** * Disables BuddyPress' registration process and fallsback to WordPress' one. */ function my_disable_bp_registration() { remove_action( 'bp_init', 'bp_core_wpsignup_redirect' ); remove_action( 'bp_screens', 'bp_core_screen_signup' ); } add_action( 'bp_loaded', 'my_disable_bp_registration' ); ?>May 2, 2018 at 12:36 pm #272597In reply to: Email solution

ParticipantThank you Vapvarun for the reassurance on MailGun.
I had a few quick follow-up questions, I was hoping you could help me with:
1. Do you recommend I go into “maintenance mode” before switching the email service to Mailgun or do you have any other workflow suggestions for making the email service change on a very active site?
2. When a member gets a site generated notification is the sender email always the site email, even if it’s to notify them of a message from another member, in other words, is one MailGun account (subject to the email limit I purchase) going to do the trick for a large buddypress membership site?
3. When a member messages a member inside the site, is this through their email?
And if you have any documentation on this that would be great too. I’m having trouble trying to understand how email/notifications/messaging in a buddypress site functions, and then in turn how to solve our problem of exceeding our hosts* 500 per day email limit.
Thank you again!
*Interestingly GetFlyWheel use SendGrid but when I contacted SendGrid they referred me to MailGun

ParticipantThank you for your reply…
comment action need to update based on Activity Type
This may be true (if I’m understanding correctly), however, the notification seems to be coming from Buddypress since it is the standard email that is generated when ANY response is made on ANY update. Somehow I want to filter this out so that comments on rtmedia updates generate a different email which I suspect may have as much to do with Buddypress as it does with rtmedia (although I am also waiting for support there too)…
If anyone has any suggestions as to a filter(?) perhaps that I could use, I would be very grateful.

Participant@pandreas you can create group type with https://wordpress.org/plugins/bp-create-group-type/
and you can display them via shortcodes on any pages with group type parametersand with https://github.com/wbcomdesigns/shortcodes-for-buddypress you can have a shortcode to display groups with group-type anywhere as a shortcode

May 2, 2018 at 4:13 am #272579mubiesam
ParticipantAs stated “It was there, but not sure what was the cause, now it disappeared.”
I had removed all 3 plugins…BuddyPress, BuddyPress Registration Options, and Super Socializer. While installed back the Super Socializer, found something weird…
My multisite main site https://johocen.com/ show the toolbar correctly, but subsite https://lt.johocen.com/ just disappeared.
It means, without BuddyPress and BuddyPress Registration Options, the toolbar problem is still there, but what happened was, https://lt.johocen.com/ is the only site installed with these 2 plugins.
It sounds strange, but it seems the toolbar was disappeared right after I had added this line at the end of bp-registration-options/includes/core.php
add_action( 'the_champ_user_successfully_created', 'bp_registration_options_notify_pending_user', 10, 1 );
But now even I had removed BuddyPress and BuddyPress Registration Options, the problem is still there.I noticed that even the plugin removed, but the database created for plugin is still stored, is there a way to completely removed the plugin and it’s db?
This problem is driving me crazy, any help is highly appreciated.

ParticipantI should have mentioned
wordpress 4.9.4
buddypress 2.9.4May 1, 2018 at 11:14 pm #272572Norman Cates
ParticipantThank you.
However, I am using a plugin that sends an email invite to people whoare to become users.
They fill in a simple registration form, then submit it.
And then log in to the website.
At that point, they have access. They haven’t gone through any Buddypress registration forms.
So I can’t hook those actions.
At what point in the user registration process do the xProfile fields get created/populated for a new user. eg. When does the default Name field get populated in the user registration process.
And is there a corresponding action I could hook?

ModeratorHi there,
If you have FTP access to your site I would go to the wp-content/plugins directory and rename the buddypress directory to buddypress-old.
See if that get’s your site back up.
May 1, 2018 at 11:30 am #272561Venutius
ModeratorThe buddyPress toolbar is also the WordPress Toolbar. There is no function in BuddyPress to hide the toolbar completely, however there are a number of general wordpress plugins that will completely hide the toolbar.
I remember squirrelling around one site to find what had caused this and it turned out to be a front end publishing plugin that had a default setting to hide the toolbar.
So my first question is this – are you sure it’s BuddyPress causing this? have you deactivated all other plugins and still get the problem with BP loaded?
May 1, 2018 at 8:02 am #272553Venutius
ModeratorThere are two template files that are pertinient –
plugins/buddypress/bp-templates/bp-legacy/buddypress/members/register.php and activate.phpInside these pages there are
do_actionfunctions that allow you to hook an action on that particular stage of the registration page. For example inactivate.phpthere isbp_after_activation_pageyou could hook on that and check the user has successfully activated their account and gather your data.May 1, 2018 at 6:44 am #272551Norman Cates
ParticipantSo I realised looking at this page:
That I have no idea how it’s getting its data.
There’s no arrays or variables being set. There’s these functions:
bp_has_profile()
bp_profile_groups()and so on.
But none of these do any assignments of variables or results.
I suspect my PHP/programming knowledge is way out of date. Because there’s something sophisticated or hidden going on here with those functions that I just don’t understand.
As usual glad to be pointed at background reading…

Participant@grbarrie user base is shared with multisite; you can keep BuddyPress on Primary site and WooCommerce at SubSite.
Anyone who is registering at the primary site or subsite will have access on both. -
