Just updated my Custom Profile Filters for Buddypress http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/custom-profile-filters-for-buddypress/. Allows users to specify which phrases in their profiles should be linked to a site-wide search. Also gives admins the power to turn off the automatic linking of a given profile field, and to specify fields (like Twitter or FriendFeed) where the handle should redirect to the social networking profile page, rather than a BP search.
Topic: Missing BP Admin Bar on Blog
When I try to use the “Compose Message” page, I get an error in the drop-down box of the “Send To” field that reads:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function friends_search_friends() in (my URL)/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-messages/bp-messages-ajax.php on line 33
I think this is due to the fact that I’m running a private install of BuddyPress where everyone knows everyone else already so I turned off friends. Is there a way to either fix this or at least remove the error? Messages are still sent properly when I type in the full username manually, but the error message is scary/distracting to my non-technical users, and when they click on it, it replaces whatever was already in the text field with “
“Hi all
Has anyone got any custom jQuery scripts playing nice with BuddyPress 1.0.1. and are you able to help a jQuery novice with something probably really easy?
Basically when I have <?php wp_head(); ?> loading, any code I have in a custom.js file doesn’t seem to work.
e.g something simple like the following that is meant to slide a login form in and out when you click the link doesn’t work:
$(document).ready(function () {
$('a.menu_class').click(function () {
$('div#login-form').slideToggle('medium');
});
});I have found reference to the wp enqueue script and am wondering if I should be using the following syntax to load custom javascript in WordPress at page load instead?
jQuery(document).ready(function($){I have tried the above systax instead but it still doesn’t work so I think I am missing something quite fundamental to do with BuddyPress and jQuery

p.s Something like the end result I am trying to accomplish can be seen here
Hello there,
I keep experiencing this error
You do not have any BuddyPress themes installed.
Please move “/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-themes/” to “/wp-content/bp-themes/” and refresh this page. You can download more themes here.
I have moved the bp-themes to the correct directory and all the permissions are correct. When clicking on ‘General Settings’ under the buddypress menu, the “Select theme to use for BuddyPress generated pages” drop down shows all the themes in my standard wordpress themes folder

Any idea whats going on?
Many thanks
Dan
Hello,
after a long search in this forums,i learnt how to make the buddypress site components like members,groups not visible to non-logged in users.
Thanks to Burt Adsit and Peterverkooijen.I learnt this from their thread http://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=1651
i started this thread to avoid confusions since there are a lot of codes and error messages in that thread.
Ok….
In short,create a file named bp-custom.php in the wp-content/mu-plugins folder.
Then add this code in that file.
<?php /* Plugin Name: bpRestrict - BuddyPress Plugin Plugin URI: http://code.ourcommoninterest.org/ Description: Restricts non-logged in users from certain areas Author: Burt Adsit Version: 0.1 Author URI: http://code.ourcommoninterest.org/ License: GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE 3.0 http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.txt */ function js_restrict_access(){ global $bp, $bp_unfiltered_uri; if (!is_user_logged_in() && (BP_MEMBERS_SLUG == $bp_unfiltered_uri[0] || BP_GROUPS_SLUG == $bp->current_component || BP_BLOGS_SLUG == $bp->current_component)){ bp_core_redirect( get_option('home') . "/register?s=1" ); } } add_action( 'wp', 'js_restrict_access', 3 ); ?>Next,open the register.php file from wp-content/themes/bphome/
After the <?php get_header(); ?> line,add this code
<?phpif($_REQUEST["s"]){?>
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery(document).ready(function () {
setTimeout(function(){ jQuery("#error").fadeOut("slow"); }, 6000);
});
</script>
<div id="error" class="error">
<h3>The page you were trying to access is for members only. Please login or register to continue.</h3>
</div>
<?php } ?>
That’s it….
now,the non-logged in users will be redirected to sign up page whenever they try to visit the members,blog or the groups…
Topic: Photo, not avatar
Hi All
I’m using BuddyPress for an organization where the users don’t like the name Avatar, but would rather have this changed to Photo. Is there a way to make this change on my site?
Thanks
I’m trying to restructure the registration form. I see the custom fields are added by function xprofile_add_signup_fields in bp-xprofile-signup.php.
Why is the code for the Profile Picture upload included in this function? Is there any way to remove this code, put it in a separate function?
I want a registration form that looks something like this:
First name: …
Last name: …
Email address: …
Sign Up! (button)
This excellent plugin makes login with email address possible; a username is no longer needed!
Restructuring the registration form in WPMU/BP appears to be almost impossible. I’ve posted other questions about this, like here, but this post is an attempt to start at the top and go through it step by step.
1. Created a custom field “Last name” and made it required. It appears under “* Name:” on the form as “* Last name:”.
How can I rename “* Name:” on the form to “* First name:”?
2. Went into bp-core-signup.php to change the order of the registration form fields – or is there a better way? To move the ‘firstname’ and ‘last name’ fields to the top of the form I’ve moved this bit up:
echo '<div id="extra-fields">';
do_action( 'signup_extra_fields', $errors );
echo '</div>';Unfortunately ‘Profile Picture (Avatar)’ is included in signup_extra_fields.
Why? Is there any way to remove this from the initial registration and move it to optional profile fields?
Or is there any way to move “Name” (or firstname+lastname) to the top of the form separate from the extra_fields?
Where and how are the extra_fields generated? How can I change their appearance, remove/edit text, etc.?
Solutions to this would be a good start. More problems later…
