Wessa-
Thanks for your comments. I too always thought it a bit odd to get friendship requests from someone I never met.
This, of course, is not specific to BuddyPress. Friending is a common practice in the 1st-generation social networking platforms like MySpace, Facebook, and others. Many platforms that followed basically carried this metaphor forward.
However, I think it is time to evolve the friending process. We can pay homage to the throwback years of early social networking platforms, but going forward, we need to expand our relationship definitions.
Are you proposing that the requests also come through with the relationship reference attached.. for example “Wessa would like to add you as an acquaintance”
For the alpha release of this component, I am focusing on remapping of the friend relationship. So, the request for friendship would come in and be accepted or rejected as always. If accepted, the users would have a choice to remap that relationship to something more appropriate. Of course, this means that each party in the relationship could remap the relationship differently.
For the official release, version 1.0, it is possible that I will hook into the actual relationship-requesting process and pass on the request as proposed–x would like to add you as a colleague. This way, both parties would in essence be agreeing to the type of relationship.
I upgraded to 1.0.1 today (by admin panel).
later i made a new private group, and added a friend to it.
We now have both a notification in the bar (it says [1], sometimes [2] ),
when i mouse over it, it says: ‘ 2 New membership requests for the group “” ‘(notice that no group is filled between the “….
Sins this issue i got in the “site wide activaty widge”t just 1 activity, the rest won’t show up (only on widget)
I’m using latest wordpress. have even removed all buddypress files and put it back again.
Also got the language problem ->http://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=3085
@anthony-cajetan
Thanks for sharing your solution. I’m setting this thread to resolved. You can always run the light red again if need be!

Basic adaptation of the standard theme. Perhaps a custom theme design sometime in the future. Moved the site from Nucleus CMS. Still tweaking here and there.
@P.S.
If you have an idea to improve BuddyPress functionality, please submit it to Trac as an “enhancement” ticket. You log into Trac with the same username and password as on this forum.

Did you do anything more then create folders /buddypress/bp-languages/ and put the two language files there?
Hi guys
Just installed Aksimet plugin and ive put in my API key but when i click Aksimet stats in the Dashboard im getting what looks like a 404 error page
Is this because Aksimet is currently down or is the plugin not compatible with Buddypress?
Cheers

Hi all,
Essentially I am looking at using Buddypress for some niche sites. They would in theory run off of sub domains with the main domain listing the others with nice pictures and info etc.
My questions are and bear with me:
Q1) If you install on sub domains can users use the same password to access the other sites if they so wish.
E.G User one is signed up for a sub domain detailing all things tennis, however they enjoy soccer too, could they then use the same password for the domain housing soccer information?
Q2) I need the feasability of offering two levels of sign up to my site(s)
E.G User one gets free access and User 2 pays a subscription to enter the site. So for user one they would sign up for a free account with limited features and user 2 would sign up as a premium user having all the features.
Sorry if m benign warblings grate on some, but any help as ever is greatly appreciated.
Hi.
I wrote a simple plugin that enables BuddyPress to work with MultiSite. Unfortunately, it requires few changes in BuddyPress core files (adding some actions). Maybe BuddyPress authors will consider adding this actions in some of the future releases.
The easiest way to have one BuddyPress instance but separate BuddyPress networks on different domains is to create a new set of tables for each site. I not very happy with this solution, but as WPMU creates new sets of tables for each blog, I guess it will be OK to have few sets of BuddyPress tables for each domain (site). And this could improve performance because tables will be smaller and interaction between them is not needed.
If anyone is interested in BuddyPress working with MultiSite, please contact me.
After upgrading from 1.0. to 1.0.1my Swedish translation was gone (http://skolbloggen.se). I thought maybe “Selected English – Save – Select Swedish – Save” would help, but still English all over the site.
After some investigation I found that /wp-content/buddypress/bp-languages/ were missing, so I created /buddypress/bp-languages/ and uploaded Swedish (http://codex.buddypress.org/translations/swedish-svenska-sv_se/) and switched between English/Swedish in admin-panel, still with no result. What am I missing?
Ps: Deleted my first SPAM-blog today (protected signup page with reCAPTCHA wasnt enough), active guy this “zhanglingjuan115”; http://www.google.se/search?q=zhanglingjuan115&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:sv-SE:official&client=firefox-a

I was able to resolve the problem in the following manner on my localhost:
The issues were w.r.t the directives in the .htaccess file.
Most of the settings were w.r.t to the httpd.conf file of Apache
There could be security issues but AT least it worked locally
I changed
1) AllowOveride None to AllowOveride All (this line follows the Options Indexes FollowSymLinks line)
2) Uncommented teh LoadModule rewrite_module line
3) Accessfilename should point to .htaccess (its on by default)
Hope it works for anyone else having the same issue.
Cheers!!!
Jeff, As as someone with the status of “Friend” to you on Buddypress, and having not met you or engaged verbally with you, I would really second this concept you are proposing.
Recently an investor in a couple of our projects told me his one big criticism of using Buddypress was that people were asking him to become a “Friend”. He found that quite confronting.
Are you proposing that the requests also come through with the relationship reference attached.. for example “Wessa would like to add you as an acquaintance”.
Anyway, love the whole idea of mapping relationships, it adds a whole lot more meaning.

Can somebody send me a link to a doc or a guide which clearly describes how buddy press has to be installed with WPMU on a local machine?
Need help urgently.
Regards
First off, if you suspect or actually know that a given plugin is causing issues, you should contact the plugin developer and ask them. They may be aware of the issue and already have a new version in the works, or they may not be aware of any issues and thankful for the report.
Second, concerning an official listing of BuddyPress plugins, you can either find them here or search the WordPress plugin repository for the tag word “BuddyPress”. On the repository page for a given plugin, it will tell you on which versions of WPMU and BuddyPress the plugin has been tested.
Finally, as far as a listing of plugin conflicts, I do not know of any. You can search the forums here and find various threads indicating potential conflicts. But, since all the plugins are developed by 3rd-party sources, it is up to the users to figure such things out–with the help of forums such as this, of course!
hello Joe
As far as overwriting the template tags are concerned,That is not allowed. You can only overwrite pluggable functions(In case of wordpress/buddypress).
As far as I see, the bp_login_bar() is a normal function(template tag), you may have a look at the code in buddypress/bp-core/bp-core-templatetags.php,so you can not overwrite it.
Yes, if you want a customize the look of the form/output generated by it, you can use a work around.
Copy the code for bp_login_bar and put it inside a new function say bp_custom_login_bar() inside your theme’s functions.php, now you may modify the code inside the bp_custom_login_bar() to make it look as you want.
The only extra work you will have to do is, you will have to replace all the calls of bp_login_bar tag in your template by bp_custom_login_bar.
Hope it helps.
If I misinterpreted your question, please clarify.
I am currently working on what I call a relationship mapping component. You can read some about my concept here: https://trac.buddypress.org/ticket/582
I hope to have an alpha release in 3-4 weeks.
hi Stef
Can you point to the site.I hope you meant the top navigation bar.On my test site(I am also using buddypress 1.0.1),It is showing as usual. If you can point to your site, may be we can help.
I think in this case why that person, whom I put in my network, will agree to such proposition without being allowed to choose or decline ?
What you suggest is probably “Fans” or “Followers” – I can be a fan of any Mr or Mrs X, for this I do not need consent.
Thus in a social network or in many social networks Friendship can have multiple levels
Friends – the usual buddypress way
Fans – no consent needed
Mutual friends – Common friends
Top friends – whom I choose as top will appear topmost in the friend list always
“Network” in Social nets probably mean what Facebook used to have, several groups having at least one common element belong to a network. For example, groups on ice cream, chocolate, candy, biscuits belong to a “Food” network

Unfortunately its not working.. did anyone manage to get it working with Bp 1.0?
invitefriends-plug-in, i installed this and after like an hour or two, my dashboard started to have widgets missing , then it went blank, and then a hour later i lost my appearance page completly i started to delete plugins the first one i deleted was invitefriends-plug-in and my site went back to normal. Only other plugins i have installed are facebook connect and wp-cumulus. I have installed other plugins and have gotten a white out screen i dont know if its because the plugins havent been updated to 1.01 yet but i would love to know what plugins work and which ones dont and what known plugin confilcts are? and what and where i can find wp plugins that work on wmpu and buddypress and if their is a site with wmpu specific plugins that will work with WPMU 2.7 and buddypress 1.01.
Jeff, thanks for explaining where the data is stored. I will check my database and see if I notice anything unusual.
As far as installation, no, the site was installed and configured on June 1, and then my students started accessing on June 2. That’s why this has seemed so odd to me that some students show all info and most don’t.
I will mention that I didn’t do the install. I just set up hosting with TMD Hosting, and they offer complete BuddyPress install (with BBPress) as part of their service. My previous hosting was not configured to handle BuddyPress, so I had to go host shopping. I don’t have previous experience with BuddyPress, but I’ve been using WP for years, and as far as I can tell from the backend, everything seems to have been installed correctly, and the BBPress forums correctly integrated with BuddyPress. The only hitch has been with this user info.

Hi everybody,
I have a problem with scheduled posts and Recent Blog Posts widget. I saw a post about this, but that question wasn’t answered so I am posting this again.
The problem is that scheduled posts doesn’t appear in Recent Blog Posts widget. Normal posts appear correctly and scheduled posts also appear if they are updated.
I’ve done some research on this and this is what I’ve found out.
Recent Blog Posts widget gets it’s data by joining two tables:
wp_bp_user_blogs
wp_bp_user_blogs_posts
When user publishes a post in WP, post data is inserted in WP tables and in those two tables. If scheduled post is published, when the time arrives post data is updated in WP tables (post status), but not in those two. The scheduled post never appears in BuddyPress tables. It only appears if it’s updated later.
This seems like a bug to me. I can see this behavior in several installs with different WP and BuddyPress versions.
My newest install has WP 2.7.1 and BuddyPress 1.0.1.
Has anyone had this problem? If not, maybe you can test and approve this behavior so we can be sure it’s a bug. Thank you.
I’m trying to remove the /blog/ slug from the home blog while using /%postname%/ as the permalink structure.
So what I want to accomplish for the home blog is:
http://www.example.com/hello-world
instead of:
http://www.example.com/blog/hello-world
—
Jeff’s reply in a previous thread did not answer my question. I know what the consequences are for using /%postname%/ as the permalink structure. I am well-versed with WP standard and I have multiple blogs running on the same permalink structure.
—
Here’s what I have done so far:
I am using the default Kubrick Home theme and have adjusted my home blog’s settings under “Site Admin > Blogs” to: “Path – /” and “Permalink Settings – “/%postname%/”.
When I attempt to click on the “hello-world” post under the home blog, I get a 404 error.
However, when I go to “/blog/hello-world/”, this works.
—
Is there a solution to my problem?
Thanks for reading and I apologize for hijacking the previously-resolved thread!
