Hi Jeff, Thanks for your reply. Pl. find below my replies to your questions.
1 I am using Windows XP and running all this off the Appache webserver.
2 I copied the bpmember folder in /wp-content/bp-themes/
3 Yes the same has been done.
4 Yes I do have a .htaccess file in the dir in which WPMU is installed
Please advise.
I have tried alsmost everything … still no luck!!!!
yes Apache and php.ini are taken care of.
one more information is that for iitdreams wire and groups are working, however not for mbapursuit.
Do you have apache mod_rewrite active?
Do you have mod_security or SUPHP installed?
Hi,
I am running two installations of buddypress at http://iitdreams.com and http://bigmba.com. Both the installations were working fine untill I changed to a VPS. Now some components like profiles, friends, blogs, wire , groups are not working.
People can still register and log in. For IITdreams the latest versions of buddypress and wpmu are running, however for bigmba.com old versions are installed.
First I though it could have been a chmod access issue, however that was not the case. All other settings for php.ini and httpd.conf are set right. The problem started only when I shifted servers.
Kindly help me to troubleshoot the issue.
Thanks and Regards
Dheeraj Singh
I was trying to install Wp-Super-Cache on WPMU 2.7.1 and messed up the .htaccess file. Now I cannot see any uploaded pictures (user avatars, group images, etc) on BuddyPress theme (BuddyPress 1.0.1). Please help.
Installation is at http://huddle.inversekarma.in
Also, my bbPress 1.0 Rc-1 copied at http://huddle.inversekarma.in/forums isn’t showing up, returning an error. I you could, please help me troubleshoot this too!
Thanks in advance
I am considering buddypress for a community project of mine, but I will be using IPB 3 as core for discussions (for many reasons…) and I wonder how much WPMU/BP differ from WP in terms of integration?
In WP you can set most of the database fields in /wp-includes/pluggable.php and then tell WP which database to pull these from. Is that possible with WPMU/BP?
Okay, I see that you have seen this thread ( https://buddypress.org/forums/topic.php?id=2572 ). You have tried everything in that thread but can still not get the buddybar to show. Is that correct?
I just installed 1.0.1 and noticed that the buddy bar is very different with less information in it than 1.0. All it shows is the MEMBERS BLOG NAME and A LOG OUT Button..is this normal? or should it be like it used to be with shortcuts to profile etc?
Is there anyway to display the a shortcut to the logged in members profile in this bar?
Best wishes and kindest regards
Stef
The simple answer is no.
The simple answer is yes.
You asked two diametrically opposed questions!
The privacy component derives the basic user data from the wp_user table, specifically the ID field. The BuddyPress xprofile tables all refer back to this particular field to relate their record-level data. So, in essence, there should not be any issue if you disable the xprofile component.

Welcome to BuddyPress!
Just so that you know the process around here, please read this thread.
In general, it is not effective to post a new support question in a thread that is marked as resolved. Furthermore, it is not effective to post a support question in a thread that has not had any activity for a month or longer. This thread fits both criteria.
So, I’ll provide some direction here, but if you are still having issues after reading this, then just start a new thread and we will see what we can do!
Possible solutions:
1. Make sure in “Path” that you have set the directory in which WPMU is installed.
2. Regarding the “/%postname%/” permalink structure, read this: https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Using_only_.25postname.25
A couple of questions:
1. What locahost environment (OS and server) are you running your install on?
2. Did you install the bpmember theme folder in /wp-content/bp-themes/?
3. Did you choose the BuddyPress default member theme, bpmember, in WPMU’s backed? You do this by logging into WPMU as site admin, then going to “BuddyPress > General Settings > Select theme to use for BuddyPress generated pages”.
4. Do you have a .htaccess file in the directory in which you’ve installed WPMU?
Can one of you post a ticket in trac about this with a patch please? You seem to have found a solution. Same login as here.

I had this problem too and it was very frustrating. The main pubDate was fine as it was just the last updated time, but the pubDate for each post was not in the correct format. I found a fix for this. It’s a hack to the buddypress code so I’ll give you all of the standard “enter at your own risk” warnings but at least until the buddypress team fixes this, this should solve your problem.
edit the following file and add the following lines (make sure you comment out the line I mention as well):
/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-activity/bp-activity-templatetags.php
$formated_recorded_date = strtotime($activities_template->activity->date_recorded);
$formated_recorded_date = date (‘D, d M Y H:i:s T’, $formated_recorded_date );
return apply_filters( ‘bp_get_activity_feed_item_date’, $formated_recorded_date );
//return apply_filters( ‘bp_get_activity_feed_item_date’, $activities_template->activity->date_recorded );

Hello,
I am trying to have BuddyPress work with my wordpress-mu installation on my LOCAL machine. I have been able to activate the BP plugin and even the BP theme.
I can even see the BP theme actually showing up on the browser but none of the links work. For e.g the menu’s “Blog”, “Members” etc do not work and give a 404 error. This is the actually the link that gets generated.
http://localhost.localdomain/wordpress-mu/groups
Could somebody suggest how to resolve this?
Regards,
Roland
@ Hyrxx,
I have searched this for buddypress but not found anything suitable
If any one can provide a tweak kindly, it will help immensely.
It’s a work in progress, but I just launched my photography community – Asgemi. Here’s the link: http://asgemi.com
Feedback welcome!

Hi gang,
Am brand new to MU and Buddypress and I have setup Buddypress on my local box
Saw this thread and it’s exactly what I want to do.
To test this out, I am using the default Kubrick Home theme, and have adjusted my home blog’s settings under “Site Admin > Blogs” to: “Path – /” and “Permalink Settings – “/%postname%/”.
When I attempt to click on the “hello-world” post under the home blog, I get a 404 error.
However, when I go to “/blog/hello-world/”, this works.
Any idea why?
Watch out for the new Welcome Widget HTML entity encoding, it got me and I had to turn it off because I had HTML in my Welcome widget.
See the release notes or forum comments for where to take it out from Andy

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/social-media-page/
This wordpress plugin does what it says, list social media profiles.
I think this kind of function could be useful for communities like buddypress, and wonder if any coders can convert it into bp plugin (making it possible to edit the settings on the frontend).
Merhaba infinitive!
It’s probably best if you post support requests in English, at that appears to be the most common language by far on this forum. I have utmost respect for people who can also talk my language, and I am shamed often that I can’t talk yours. I’ve run your post through Google Translate and have put the translation below, to try to help people who are looking to help you. Thanks for your post.
Hello
Friends who know Turkish hopefully help a friend
I can not add the new group profile Buddypress field would create the group name would click to create the group said. A few times I’ve encountered this problem may help nedne is this?
Dan-
Okay, I’m just thinking out loud, just going through the registration process.
As long as BuddyPress is installed and activated, is does not matter if your users register via the wp-signup.php form (which is found in WPMU) or the register.php form (which is found in BuddyPress). The extra fields from BuddyPress will show up on either form.
Here is where the data is stored:
The datum for “Full Name”, which is a required BuddyPress field, is stored in the table wp_bp_xprofile_data. The data for the “Nickname” field, which is the username if no full name is provided, the “First name” field, and “Last name” field, are stored in the table wp_usermeta. The data for “username” and “Display Name” are stored in the table wp_user.
So, here’s a question:
Did you at any point uninstall BuddyPress and delete the BP tables in MySQL? Did you delete any of the WPMU tables? Did you do either or both of these and then reinstall? If yes, did most of your students register before that time and then only those four register after a BuddyPress reinstall?
I’m just grasping at straws now. Perhaps someone else will have insight into this issue.
Michael-
Since BuddyPress is a plugin for WordPress Mu, all that it requires is for WordPress Mu to be functioning properly. If WPMU does not find a .htaccess file in the directory in which it is installed, it will try to create one automatically.
Now, does WPMU require a .htaccess file? No. Why? Because people have successfully installed and run large WPMU-based sites on LightTPD and Nginx. These webservers do not support .htaccess files.
What WPMU uses the .htaccess file for (in an Apache or IIS environment) is to set rewrite rules for permalinks. In LightTPD and Nginx, this is accomplished through the webserver’s configuration file.
So, the question is this: What web server platform does Yahoo! Hosting use?
If their webservers are running Apache, then find out if mod_rewrite is turned off. A .htaccess file is basically useless without mod_write. This may be why they say that you can’t use a .htaccess file.
Here’s some information that might help: https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks#Using_.22Pretty.22_permalinks
If you continue to have issues with this, I would switch to a host that allows you to use the WPMU .htaccess file.
