Hello,
Unfortunately, most hosting companies do not support wildcards due to some configuration settings that should be applied both in the DNS and Apache virtual host. Still, in a properly configured hosting enviropment this can be easily achieved and these requirements can be met without any additional charges.
You may review the following hosting provider which fully support wildcards and has a BuddyPress and WordPress MU hosting packages:
http://www.tmdhosting.com/buddypress-hosting.html
You may also check the following blog on the test platform of BuddyPress at:
http://tmdhosting.testbp.org/
A step by step tutorial on how to install BuddyPress on your hosting is available on:
http://www.tmdhosting.com/tutorials/buddypress/buddypress-tutorial.html
I hope this information will be useful due to the fact that it is not an advertisement — you are free to choose the best hosting provider for your needs. Good luck

I came here because I want such a theme but a stable core, or a one click mu/bbpress/bp install is my first choice. Go for it!
@Michael-
… I just updated to the latest trunk. Before I had 1303 installed…
What version of BuddyPress are you currently running? If it is 1303, that is not the latest trunk version. Try updating to the most recent trunk.
Also, did you add the one additional define line to WPMU’s wp-config.php file? If not, compare the 2.7.1 config file to your old one. This line is new:
define('SITE_ID_CURRENT_SITE', 1);
Since you can see the admin screen when you remove BP, that should not be the issue. But I’m just trying to be thorough.
@Nicola-
I believe Hally was asking for the location of the wp-signup.php file.
@Hally-
Is that true? Or, are you asking where is wp-signup.php referenced within BuddyPress?
I m using akismet plugin without problem..
@Xmike, What plugin are you using to upload images and from where ie user profiles in BP?
Hi Gordon
Good to see you’ve now got it to work.
I’m having the same problems you had – to the letter – with getting forums to work. Am using shared hosting in the UK. Forums are not being created on the bbpress side and I’m getting the “There was an error posting that topic.” message on Buddypress.
Has anyone got the link to the xml-rpc testing files?
Thanks!
When a user receives a friend request email and clicks on the link to accept, the user is taken to a WP log-in screen. If the user then adds their user name and password and clicks to enter, they are shown a screen that says:
Are you sure you want to do that?
Please try again.
This screen then goes nowhere. If the user then logs in to BuddyPress by using a bookmark, the log-in is fine and the friend request is in their message drop down.
That’s a fairly standard WP message. I always ignore it and never have any problems.
Hi there
Im on my way translating BuddyPress into danish, but I cant find a way to make BuddyPress use my new .po/.mo files – how do I do that?
I’am currently working on a matching bbPress theme for BuddyPress … But, it only fit my (tweaked) theme for BuddyPress
The forum is up and running, but the theme is still in development
The color scheme i use can be seen over here:
http://wordpress-blog.nl
I’m already using Amazon S3 for uploaded images on buddypress site http://restaurace.net
Hi, I’d like to know if the idea modemlooper raise to have “blog” as one option in the group side bar has materialized? The community blog plugin is great, and it would be nice to see that fully integrated with the group concept in Buddypress.
Hi All,
Right, from the outset, this is not the usual ‘I can’t get the bbpress forums to work’ type query. Mine are working so everything in that respect is fab WOOOOOOO! (Love it btw – keep up the good work!)
Here’s my problem:
I want to do EXACTLY what buddypress.org has done with their forums i.e. have them sitting within the site template. At the moment I’ve coddled together a crappy template (modified from the base bbpress theme) to look like my main site template – have a look here http://www.gigbuddy.org and you’ll see what’s going on. Basically I need the main navigation, the admin bar etc. all to be there so if anyone can tell me how to make my custom bp theme fit the forum I’d be more than grateful coz i’m tearing my hair out here (and I don’t have much to begin with!)
Cheers,
Phil
thanks for the tipp, but that is the case…
Ehy Jeff look here wp-content/themes/buddypress-home/register.php
if you’ve a customized theme copy register.php and activation.php from /themes/buddypress-home to your theme
put bp plugins in /plugins/buddypress
@jeff, I\\\’ve taken a second look at this and did a monthly calc.
Here\\\’s my findings & you can check whether I\’ve missed any spec from the list.
AWS EC2 + S3
http://calculator.s3.amazonaws.com/calc5.html#
P.s I can’t put my figures in the calc. just need 5GB storage, small compute,maybe 1gb Data Transfer-in & out
No Log-Entry… strange…
When I remove the Bp-Components at least WPMU starts. Can I do something then, to delete the configuration or something?
Check your error logs. This kind of problem leaves a trace. The problem is probably a php fatal error of some sort. That will lead you to the solution.
The bbPress template is PAINFUL to modify. Doesn’t work the same was as WordPresss.
I’ve found though that the blank theme available from
http://www.refueled.net/blank-themes/
make creating a matching theme so much easier.
Check them out.
Thanks for the hint – I tried it and still failed…
Any other idea?
Upgrade to the latest svn mu 2.7.1 branch: http://svn.automattic.com/wordpress-mu/branches/2.7
There was a bug in mu that tried to load plugins that don’t exist. Since you don’t have the individual bp plugins anymore, they don’t exist. That might be the problem. This was fixed in rev 1720.
This isn’t possible with the level of integration that buddypress has with the forum component, bbpress. Maybe in future.
