Good questions. First of all let me correct you, the price is $89 or $90 for single site users. $200 is for 5 sites. Also, there is no option that is $250. That said, price aside, I would pay $250 for EasySocial any day. It is fantastic.

To answer your questions, Feature wise, it is incredibly feature rich, and they work very hard to push more features all the time. It is a young project, and it already has all the features you really need for a Social Network. All in one package. It is on a whole other level.

There is way more backend control, user control, profile control, performance tweaking control etc.

In terms of performance, it is way ahead of BuddyPress and JomSocial. In tests BuddyPress and JomSocial load significantly slower on a highly populated site than on EasySocial. Especially when hosted on a LEMP Stack running Nginx, Php5-fpm, MariaDB and ngx_pagespeed on Debian.

I could answer any specific question about my experiences using EasySocial and JomSocial over the years. But I do recommend that developers take the time to get inspired by EasySocial.

I do understand that the business model is different, but I have seen many incredible open source projects over the years, and that is no excuse. That said, maybe BuddyPress should consider a much more complete version for premium subscription or something.

OMG! Thanks soooo much for this! I’ve been trying to find ways of doing exactly this for a long time!

Any chance that this can also do the same thing for the “buddypress groups” gravatars?

For me, the plugin “good question” fixed 95% of spam regs.. similar to “buddypress humanity”…

I use that plugin, and in the settings (superadmin dashboard -> buddypress tab -> Activyt block

I have this in the box for “blocked activity types”
deleted_group_document, new_blog, new_member, joined_group, friendship_created, activity_liked

works for me for now.. even though there is an error with that plugin…
Warning: Missing argument 2 for wpdb::prepare(), called in wp-content/plugins/buddypress-block-activity-stream-types/admin/bp-activity-block-admin.php on line 6 and defined in /wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 1154

Someone did a fork / update of that plugin which fixes some things, but last I checked it was on github and not the official wp repo – (post here: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/which-file-and-how-to-sort/#post-231515 )

The Sharebox or the equivalent of Whats New box in BP is fantastic. Its not “sophisticated” but integrates in a simple user friendly way that members need. – I agree.

But what are the pros and cons featurewise ? Resource-hungriness? Security ? Back-up ? Code cleaniless and less-bulikness?
Most importantly can each and every user have their own blog with own themes and widgets like WordPress Multisite ?

Personal reason I am using WordPress- BUddypress is for the seamless WordPress Integartion [ except Favorites/Likes] – if Elgg / Oxwall / Easysocial offered this WP integration things would have been different, probably.

Now, another important part Easyocial is $250, BP is free.. It follows a business model. [However anyone will love the approach at stackideas.com/support]. BP is developed out of free available time by Devs, and the Dev is not oriented so much towards Features out of box rather towards backend “geeky” things which is supposed to make it robust and less bulky for other devs who can produce feature-based plugin 🙂

Easysocial sharebox and some features are what BP ideally should push in overnight but that is really never going to happen in years. I suggest you please post a detailed review and please explain how multi-blogging (each user having own blog with own theme etc) is in Easysocial.

Ok, so I made the switch to WordPress after years of using both JomSocial and EasySocial on Joomla. I have to say, I am disappointed that EasySocial being a very very young project with a small team is so far ahead of a mature project with many contributors like BuddyPress. BuddyPress feels more like Community Builder on Joomla, than a full featured well thought out Social Networking plugin like EasySocial.

EasySocial has done in a year what BuddyPress has not been able to do in many many years.

I genuinely miss the sharebox/composer from the Stackideas Activity Stream. It is way more sophisticated.

I also miss the control of how everything works. In BuddyPress if I want to customize things I gotta download third party plugins or themes, half of them are junk.

Now, I do like that Buddypress tries to be more modular, and I love that it supports WordPress, but what are the chances of you guys taking some time to do some competitive research and improve the quality, features and settings for BuddyPress, when compared to EasySocial?

I am also seeing the @mentions not working on my site.

BuddyPress 2.2.1 running on the Engine theme from Industrial Themes. Theme and WP both at latest versions.

Plugins (but I can’t see where any would cause a conflict):

Anti-spam by CleanTalk
Custom Login
Custom Permalinks
Gravity Forms (and PayPal and User Registration add-ons)
MailChimp Lite
Updraft
Use Google Libraries (maybe it’s that one?)
Yoast

And some admin plugins.

It’s possible, but not easy.

You’ll have to start by changing the form action on this template:
bp-templates\bp-legacy\buddypress\members\single\settings\delete-account.php

And then write a function to handle your new action.

Hello there guys,

I’ve just installed a nice plugin called “Birds autor box” (https://wordpress.org/plugins/birds-author-box/). The plugin is using WordPress’s funcation “get_the_author_meta(‘image’, get_query_var(‘author’))” to pull the user’s profile image. For some reason even that I’ve sync my WP and BP user profile the pllugin does no pulling BP user’s avatar.

Any thoughts why the sync is not working for me? there is a way maybe to use BP funcation in non-BP plugins or so?

I’m not much of a programmer T_T

I change the ‘slug’ => ‘fans’,
It’s works changing the url from group-name/members to group-name/fans
but the page can’t find any fans (members) even it has.

Hey all,

This has been answered before (https://buddypress.org/support/topic/block-activity-stream-types/), but I wanted a clearer explanation of how to hide things from the Activity stream. Basically, all I’d like for the Activity stream to have is what people post. No “new registered member”, “changed their profile picture” or “became friends with”. It would be way better and more private in my opinion.
If someone could post the code I need to insert or something, I would really appreciate it and I’m sure other people would too.

I’m renaming the members tab to fans by language .po file
I’m affraid there’s no easy way to change this..? >.<

I found complete list of SLUG:

but none of them to edit Group Members SLUG.. 🙁 or is this bug?

Hi @dleit may be you should visit the sites such as cunny commons academy(google it) which is built using buddypress to have a small idea bout how you should place your stuff and other links,the next step would be to add the activity link where you and other people can post updates as is done in facebook cos it is updates which is going to bring some engagement on your sie and its users add members link to list all your members so that people can find each other and get connected rest will come automatically as you start doing all the best

BuddyPress version: 2.2.1

I created a page for each component in this plug-in and I don’t know what to do next. I am an amateur admin person. I now see BuddyPress in the left side pane under menus. I don’t know what I should add to the menu under the page I want associated with online community BP will create for me. I don’t even know if that is the next step. I’m going to keep fiddling with it. Right now, there is nothing visible about BP on our site. Our site is http://selfhelp.on.ca. The page I want BP to found on is through’Community of Practice.’

Hi @nkeatign

BuddyPress ‘members’ and WordPress ‘authors’ share the same ID, therefore are the same entity. A post that belongs to WordPress author with ID 286 belongs to a BuddyPress member with ID 286 (because, again, they’re the same). If something isn’t displaying as you’d expect, then it’s likely to be a theme issue.

Which theme are you using?

Another option….

If this wont work – i could also use custom fields in the extended profile feature of buddypress and set up a field to contain this ‘category’ information.

Either would work.. but need to store a category for each user and capture this as they log in.

Hoping someone can help as ive tried Sooooo.. many things for this I’m running out of ideas.

I’m using Buddy press groups to categorize my users (office based, sales etc….)
I’m also using a plugin called ‘Login Log’ which records logins by all users.

The login log plugin logs many details at time of login but dosnt currently log which buddy press group a user is in. I need this infor for reporting purposes.

No i have modified the login log plugin to record and extra field into the DB, but I am having great trouble returning the group(s) for a particular user at login time.

The code (from the login log plugin) which retrieves the user data then stores is is below.

you will see that i have defined a variable called ‘group’ and i need the relevant code to retrieve the buddypress group(s) to which this user belongs to so i can store it.

Anyone shed any light on this as i have tried MANY options to no avail..

any help greatly appreciated.

yes friends system is there in the buddypress and I have enabled it and I have total three users and two are friends and one is not. But the comet chat shows all of them in the chat window. I only want that the users should only be able to see their friends because I don’t want my users to get harrased by strangers. The frienship system inplace is the buddypress default friendship module that is already enabled but it is not synching with comet chat how I want it to be. Please help anybody.

I have got 1500 new members in 4 days and “they” all open up a Group and write their ad’s
Using Pie Register with Google reCaptcha and email verification, but that does not stop it.
Is it someone who has made a business to spam BP’s Communities?
Pls pls any ideas, I thought it should stop by itself when the spammer run out of ads, but NO

We have a site that we are converting to buddypress (from standard WP Install). We have over 1K users, most of which have published posts.

Non of these old posts are showing up on the new buddypress profiles. How do we import all of those show they show up on our users buddypress profile pages?
