ParticipantAlso I would like to add that if more experienced users could point novices like me in the proper direction to gain more skills and a better understanding of buddypress then it would be great. Anyway I love you all!

ParticipantI replied here:

As this seems to be a duplicate post then I suppose it should be addressed there but ultimately its for the BP-moderators to make that decision.March 27, 2013 at 4:52 am #158724In reply to: New Plugin – BuddyPress Links – Beta Support

ParticipantThere is no cut and dried way you can prevent anyone from uploading a copyrighted image unless you just don’t allow images to be uploaded at all. As far as I know there is no possible way to automate whether or not an image has been copyrighted but if I am wrong I stand corrected. That is why its important to have moderators who can determine if there is a possible copyright infringement. As far as cyber-bullying goes then it would be wise to provide a link on your site to report the offender to you or your moderators and you deal with it accordingly. I hope this helps!

ParticipantI’ve read this is to do with the template pack which i need at the moment
@fpats it only has to do with the template pack if you already have a BuddyPress-ready theme. It also happened in older versions of BP were not upgraded to compatible WordPress version. So what are your WP/BP versions? What theme are you using? Have you tried deactivating other plugins to see which is causing the issue (WPML perhaps?) ?March 27, 2013 at 1:26 am #158705In reply to: Post update Button not there

ParticipantI’m using WP version 3.5.1 and BP version 1.6.5 and IE version 9. I’m using the BuddyPress Scholar theme. My site is http://testwebpage.info/ and the test username is test3 and horses1 is the password. Thanks

@mercime
ParticipantDefault theme works after update, however the secondary theme works only partially …
Going back to your original post, when you say default theme – do you mean the BuddyPress Default theme? As to the “secondary theme”, what theme are you referring to? Has this theme been updated for latest WP/BP versions?
@bibliata As to the shortcode crashing. Where is the shortcode coming from? From a plugin or from a custom theme with such shortcode? Again, have either been updated for lastest BP/WP versions?March 26, 2013 at 10:58 pm #158691Paul Wong-Gibbs
KeymasterIf you use bbPress for site-wide forums (as you say you are), you do not need to enable “Group Forums” inside BuddyPress. So, go back to the BuddyPress settings, disable Group Forums, and then go and delete the (regular Page) called “forums”.

ParticipantI’ve also attempted to use the default forum base: forums and topic base: topics as well as change name of the page to Forums, but I continue to have the same issue. Any ideas/suggestions?

March 26, 2013 at 9:15 pm #158680In reply to: How to make a child theme?
@mercime
Participant@bandtobuy 1. BuddyPress should be activated before child theme of bp-default theme is recognized in themes. or 2. Did you add the stylesheet header in your new style.css file? you didn’t say.

ParticipantHi! Thanks sorry for the dup  post, thought it was a new issue.
YOURS: @lradden have you tried contacting the previous webmaster? Looks like it’s missing a plugin like Courseware perhaps, sound familiar or one of the learning management systems. Check in your Plugins > Installed panel. The lessons plugin may have been deactivated.REPLY: There is a plugin called cforms that won’t re-activate. It gave me this error when I first deactivated buddy press and reactivated from your instructions above and I haven’t been able to reactivate without this error since:
Warning: fopen(/var/www/tah/wp-content/plugins/cforms/abspath.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /var/www/tah/wp-content/plugins/cforms/lib_functions.php on line 191 Fatal error: Cannot use string offset as an array in /var/www/tah/wp-content/plugins/cforms/lib_activate.php on line 7
YOURS: Otherwise, where are you hosted? If on shared host, perhaps tech support can get you a copy of your database backup from last month at least to check wp_options table to see what were the active plugins at that time.REPLY: The site is on our server so I have the backup I did before I tried any of your instructions. I do not, however, have any backup before that as the previous person did not back up the files ever.

ParticipantHi i changed to twenty eleven theme and deactivated Buddypress. Then reactivated it and i do not see the installation wizard link. Instead I see this:
You’ll need to activate a BuddyPress-compatible theme to take advantage of all of BuddyPress’s features. We’ve bundled a default theme, but you can always install some other compatible themes or update your existing WordPress theme.The following active BuddyPress Components do not have associated WordPress Pages: Activity Streams, Discussion Forums, User Groups, Members.

ParticipantPlease start a fresh topic rather than resurrecting 3 year old ones which may well have little relevance code wise as the app iterates through new versions.
Also you need to explain a little further what you are trying to do; custom CSS ? So what do you propose you hook that css onto?
March 26, 2013 at 2:40 pm #158635asoldier
ParticipantI also found `user_id );
if ( !empty( $user->roles ) && is_array( $user->roles ) ) {
foreach ( $user->roles as $role )
echo “
display_name}’ />”;
}?>`but it doesn’t want to work in the profile
March 26, 2013 at 1:54 pm #158631asoldier
ParticipantNow I’m trying to take
`function pc_get_userrole ($user_id) {$user = new WP_User($user_id);
$userclean = $user->roles[0];
return $userclean;
}`
and
`echo pc_get_userrole(bp_current_user_id()); `and I want to add some custom CSS based on the role.

Jacob Schweitzer
ParticipantI would suggest the Achievements plugin, it works with BuddyPress but it doesn’t offer ranking. I had built a ranking system for a client based on Achievements, if you like please contact me, maybe I could help you with a similar system. It was as you described too, with an image to represent the ranking if you want.

@mercime
Participant@danny80 deactivate all plugins and change to Twenty Twelve theme. Activate BuddyPress plugin only and check if the Installation Wizard link shows up. When it does run the wizard.
