ParticipantTake a look at this topic:
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/changing-group-tab-display-defaults/#post-55449
I set a custom tab as the default for my internal collaboration system based on BP, can’t recall exactly how I did it but the above topic looks about right.

February 3, 2013 at 3:12 pm #152263In reply to: Buddypress building shortcode
@ChrisClayton
Participant@enriksen –
To ‘do’ shortcodes in different content areas, you will need to filter do_shortcode() into certain functions. See the WordPress codex for documentation on do_shortcode() https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/do_shortcode and add_filter: https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/add_filterTo add it to the activity stream, you’ll want to add
`add_filter(‘bp_get_activity_content_body’, ‘do_shortcode’); // Adds shortcodes to activity content.`Xprofile is similar:
`add_filter(‘bp_get_the_profile_field_value’, ‘do_shortcode’); // Adds shortcodes to xprofile content.`You can find a list of filters in BuddyPress in bp-{component}/bp-{component}-filters in the buddypress files.
eg: https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/bp-xprofile/bp-xprofile-filters.phpRemember that this will allow all shortcodes to be used [which is why it’s not on by default], currently there is no way to pick and choose what shortcodes to allow short of using a plugin such as https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress2-shortcode-whitelist/.

@mercime
ParticipantI see that you’ve also posted at https://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-buddypress-activity-plus-impossible-to-upload-a-picture-and-add-link-not-working
a) It could be that the Activity Plus plugin needs to be updated or
b) it is also possible that you’ve maxed out the default network settings for that blogsite. Did you get any warning of that sort?
– Go to Network Admin > Dashboard and click on Settings > Network Settings and check if there was any limitation set there in “Site Upload Space Quota” section
or
– Go to Network Admin > Sites and click on the “Edit” link below the blog/site where BP is installed i.e., where you’re using the Activity Plus plugin. Click on the Settings tab and in the panel which shows up, look to the very bottom of that page, check “Site Upload Space Quota” if it was left blank to default
c) could also be that another plugin has set the upload space quota
d) could also be just another plugin conflicting with the activity plus plugin.February 3, 2013 at 7:13 am #152257In reply to: Registration Form Not Submitting
@mercime
Participant@stobywan I’ve closed https://buddypress.org/support/topic/registration-not-working-5/ I have answered you here but you did not respond. Per that topic, registration stopped working after you upgraded to BP 1.6.4.
Please explain exactly what the bottleneck is for your registration.
– Can registrant complete registration process in your site?
– Is your installation sending activation emails or not?
– Is the registrant receiving the activation email or not?February 3, 2013 at 6:35 am #152255In reply to: Registration NOT Working
@ChrisClayton
Participant@stobywan – Please don’t create new threads, there is a response that is waiting for an answer at https://buddypress.org/support/topic/registration-form-not-submitting-2/
You’re more likely to get a response via answering the questions there. By not responding to questions, those who are attempting to help assume that it is fixed and move on and help others.

@ChrisClayton
Participant@chrchcol – this seems like the same issue – http://premium.wpmudev.org/forums/topic/fatal-error-when-trying-to-access-group-forums-in-buddypress
From Jeff in that thread:
Thanks so much for all of your input… turns out all that I needed to do was re-do the setup for the forums pointing it to the old bb-config.php file.
After completing that step, all the forums worked again without a hitch and no data was lost.

Participant@patrykos360 tell your friend to post here, NEW TOPIC. Nothing to lose. We’ll see if the theme’s code would allow us to implement it painlessly
Information on what theme is being used would be good. It may be that we have already template-packed the theme already. If not, then we’ll ask for the codes. You know the drill 🙂

ParticipantHad three new users of wordpress/buddypress and each of them ran through the docs with confusion. I attempted it myself and noticed the same confusion which is the reason I posted this topic here for assistance: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/installation-wizard-failure-due-to-doc-confusion/
We were able to go through the installation of groups forum with no problem since the doc is clear on that part. Any help from your end is appreciated. Thanks for your reply @karmatosed

ParticipantBenzine,
I am searching another issue and see your issue and thought I may provide a solution because I ran into the same issue. I couldn’t see any way to change or alter user profiles after entered. I couldn’t see the fields which you think would be an easy thing, but highly annoying to learn that I couldn’t. A solution…
I am using the Gravity Forms plugin. The problem is, the plugin is $50, but the only way to get their user registration add-on is to purchase the developer edition which is $200. It works with Buddypress and User Registration very nicely. You can go through your Gravity Form entries and make all of the edits to user profiles that you need. I wish I knew of a less expensive solution, but Gravity Forms is a nice plugin and I’m sure you will find other uses for it on your site!

ebraxton30
ParticipantI finally figured this out. I am using Gravity Forms user registration plugin to work with my Buddypress theme. My field names varied slightly between the custom profile field name and what I put on the user registration form. I realized that I must use field name as it is entered in the WordPress Custom Profile Field.
I do have one question…I would like to display the field name as well as what was entered in that field. For example, this site is a cancer site and users will enter their type of cancer. I would like it to read “Type of Cancer: Breast” rather than “Breast”
Any suggestions?

ParticipantOkay, I feel like this one should work, but it’s showing not really making anything happen…
in my bp-custom file (lifted heavily from John James Jacoby’s informative post here: https://buddypress.org/support/topic/calling-specific-profile-fields-individually/#post-55905):
In my edit.php file, I replaced “bp_get_current_profile_group_id()” with the custom_position function
Thanks again!

Tammie Lister
ModeratorYou don’t need to copy the entire theme. If you are talking BP-Default you can simply create a child theme and do your changes there.
https://codex.buddypress.org/legacy/building-a-buddypress-child-theme/ is a great start to learn about this.

ModeratorJust as a check have you turned on forums and installed BBPress? Or is this the only step you have done?
https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/ may help you with this if you’ve not followed all the steps.

@mercime
Participant@lynneab you would want to go multisite with a subdomain or subdirectory. Just define that your BP will run on the subsite/secondary blog https://codex.buddypress.org/user/install-buddypress-on-a-secondary-blog/

ParticipantUpdate:
After looking at the skeleton component, I essentially just copied all of the files in buddypress/bp-groups/ and did a find and replace of “group” to “vehicle” and worked through the errors. But in the end, I’ve ended up with multiple group components.

John James Jacoby
Keymaster@jwf3773 – Howdy. I know you’re new here, and we’re happy to have you around, but… you’re doing it wrong. 🙂
Boone is a core BuddyPress developer, but his plugins aren’t indicative of the BuddyPress project as a whole. If you’re trying to get a hold of Boone, there are way better ways to do that than claiming the sky is falling everywhere.
Going to close this topic, since it’s unlikely to go very far from here. Hope you have a great rest of your stay here at BuddyPress.org. 🙂

ParticipantHi @mercime
We went through the steps again and same confusion. My suggestion to them was to skip the instructions here on buddypress for the time being until I can clear it up in this post.
Please correct me if I’m wrong but from what you are saying it should be something like this:
-Follow the steps here: https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installation-wizard/ and make sure “Discussion Forums” component is not selected
-Once the installation is completed, go to Plugins > Add New > and type in bbpress and then click on Install Now
After that, where is the choice to select site wide or group forum since the buddypress component is marked as inactive?
