Participanthi @vikingpoker,
Iβm sorry to hear that BuddyPress has upset you.
Members are the heart of BuddyPress and the plugin comes with anything necessary to let you manage them.We might be able to help, would you please let us know exactly which components you activated during the BP setup ?
BuddyPress use the WordPress page system for internal purpose only. Content is shown dynamically, depending the context. When you click on a username, BP calls the pre defined member page and use the appropriate template to show the profile.
BuddyPress has also his own menu, on which you’ll find activity, members, groups so far you have activate the respective component. To access this menu, go to dashboard > appearence > menu. If you don’t see it, go to the top right corner of the screen and open the sceen option, and check “buddypress”.
You’re using a framework theme, which is not the easiest to handle if you have not much experience with WP theing. I tested it a while ago and can understand your disapointment. You may probably find good advice about BuddyPress on the Hueman support forum.
I would recommend you to use 2015 or 14 theme during the time you familiarize yourself with BuddyPress.
I invite you to read also the Codex to start with your BuddyPress.
Oh, and if you donβt understand why this is not a #1 topic in this forum, it’s probably because a large majority of user haven’t this issue. And discover here all what you can do with BuddyPress. π

Participanthi @danbp,
I’m using the plugin version of bbpress. And it’s running fine.
I can edit all fields from the backend in the frontend, too under
http://exampample.com/forums/users/USER/editIn buddypress I can access the users profile and I can set the password and the email notifications
BUT
there is no way to change the “public name” and the “website field” oder the “biographical info”
For editing this, the user has to go to the backend!!!Thanks

ParticipantAll right, here we go:
http://inviteshare.net/groups/world-wide-news/forum/Noone can create any any topics under this Entire forum. It’s not just one topic, but instead, none works. So, for the public groups, anyone should be able to post without joining this. Even the members are complaining about it. If needed, I can give you moderator/admin access to the forum for your helping me out.

Participanthi @matthias70,
once BuddyPress is installed, you have to set pretty permalinks.
Syncing profiles with WP users is also recommended (in BP settings). If you use a standalone bbpress forum, check also his settings.
Also, question related to bbpress have to be asked on the bbpress support forum

ModeratorYou’ll need to use some CSS, but first, try asking on the theme’s support forum. The theme author may be able to release a fix.

ModeratorThere have been some problems with the BuddyPress Links plugin post BP 2.2 release. Check of this thread for some more info on the problem. I’m not sure if the developer has managed to resolve yet, perhaps it’s worth opening a ticket on his support forum.

ParticipantHi @sklemenc,
you use a commercial theme and need support, please go to their official support channel. In order to be good stewards of the WordPress community, and encourage innovation and progress, we feel it’s important to direct people to those official locations.
Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why your commercial theme or plugin is not working properly. This is one other reason why volunteers forward you to the commercial product’s vendors. The vendors are responsible for supporting their commercial product.

Participanthi @skwegg,
This issue is not related to BuddyPress.
i would suggest to re-check your forum settings and breadcrumb links. π
your_site/forums/ -> Main page, displaying all your forums
your_site/forum/general/ -> General forum -> one of the forums
your_site/forum/general/best-of-steam-greenlight/ -> category of GeneralBreadcrumb link to Forum when in best-of-steam-greenlight
your_site/forum/ this should be /forum/general/See bbpress codex and if you can’t find how and what to do, ask on the bbpress support.

ParticipantI looked over this page and checked everything. Signups are allowed. Comments are allowed. My site still does not allow anyone to Register or Activate BuddyPress forum accounts. There are currently no other plugins enabled. Can anyone please look at the site and let me know what is going on if you have a few minutes? I understand if you can’t help and appreciate the time but I just want to try to troubleshoot what’s going on as something is missing and it’s either something on my end that I can’t find or BP is just not working with this theme or something else.
It is not possible for me to associate pages with the settings shown in the screenshot above. I’ve tried to do this at least five times and it simply will not save the changes no matter. I’ve checked the settings. The pages exist, there are slashes, but it’s still dead.
It’s chubbybunny.info

So, it should just give everyone that, shouldn’t it?

ParticipantWell you could and probably should be using tags like bp_is_register_page() although logged in BP will or is supposed to redirect to the home page if you try and access a page registered to the BP registration template.
So the issue then is that if you have is_page(‘about’) in that else clause then any bp page you land on would return true for that, which isn’t right but not sure why that is the case suddenly for you, it certainly doesn’t look like that would be happening on my trunk install I’m testing on.
Additionally there are a lot of posts covering re-direct scenarios on the forum, it might be worth checking a few of those and building a more robust redirect function, the one you have is a bit basic.

majecdad
ParticipantOk, so I thought I was either crazy or missing something simple, but this exact same thing is happening to me.
I ‘promote’ a member to Moderator, their avatar shows up as “Group Mod” – however, they never realize the ability to delete content within that group (except their own, of course).
Interestingly, after this ‘promotion’ their Forum role never changes from ‘participant’ in the WP users page, and their Site role stays at Subscriber. (not sure if that is normal behavior?)
I have deactivated all the other plugins except bbpress and buddypress, and the required theme plugins. I have tried it on two different themes.
If I promote the user to Group Admin, they do realize the delete privileges, but that’s not what I want to do as it includes other group edit functions.

BP 2.2
bbp 2.54Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Participant@mrjarbenne, I’ve made some progress using @sbrajesh’s very fine BuddyPress Multi Network plugin. Now it seems that I get the effect I want as long as students register at each sub-network registration page. I have an issue with blog posts showing up in the activity stream, but that’s for another forum topic…

ParticipantBy default the Activity Component is the home page of the Group. There seems to be a few different options out on the Googles to change the default landing page of your group to Forums instead.
