In reply to: Custom classes for profile pages, possible?
jerryskate
ParticipantHenry, your a genius! It works! It gave me .member-profile-of-jerry as a class to use. Finally! Thanks so much. I have one bug left to solve, a permalink issue, but won’t bother the forum until i tried deactivating plugins and some other things. Again, thanks!
April 24, 2014 at 6:35 pm #181992In reply to: Custom classes for profile pages, possible?
jerryskate
ParticipantNope, thats exactly what i did. It does work though, it outputs the profilename as the only unique class when you land on a profile page due to the slug being your profilename. But as stated above, if you navigate around on someones profile page, forum, sites, notifications etc, the slug changes to something not unique, and it doesn’t work anymore.
It would work if i used “dirty” permalinks, but being on a multisite its not an option.
The output in my previous post is what i get when i use the body tag your talking about.

Participant@sharmavishal: It doesn’t seem to work for me
I put Blocked Activity Types:
new_forum_topic, new_forum_post
and the bbPress topics and replies still go thru
@naijaping and anyone, what should the code be? Like this? :// Filter bbPress from updating activity stream function imath_activity_dont_save( $activity_object ) { $exclude = array( 'new_forum_topic', 'new_forum_post'); // if the activity type is empty, it stops BuddyPress BP_Activity_Activity::save() function if( in_array( $activity_object->type, $exclude ) ) $activity_object->type = false; } add_action('bp_activity_before_save', 'imath_activity_dont_save', 10, 1 );April 23, 2014 at 1:07 pm #181936In reply to: Custom classes for profile pages, possible?
jerryskate
ParticipantAppreciate the answer, but i have already tried it, and it doesn’t work. It actually gives me less body classes, which break other stuff where i use .single and .single-forum rom the body tags.

Moderator1. Do you use BuddyPress on a non multisite config ?
2. Do you have a lot of members ?
3. Do you allow registration ?
4. If so and if you have an access to a MySql admin tool such as PhpMyAdmin, can you run this query :SELECT count(u.ID) FROM wp_users as u LEFT JOIN wp_usermeta as um ON u.ID = um.user_id where u.user_status = 0 and um.meta_key = 'activation_key';‘wp_’ might be to replace with the table prefix you may have customized in wp-config.php
Once done can you share the result of the query in this forum ?

ParticipantI am experiencing this same problem, but oddly (and significantly, I suspect) not every group redirects to the forums.
This makes me think it is not theme related, but maybe an upgrade problem caused by a database key not flipping. Possible?
Also, I am not using the “Howdy Bar.” I am using BBPress 2.5.3

ParticipantNot sure if it is related, but 3 out of 8 main links (features/info) on the BP.org homepage(!) also link to forum posts instead of info/about pages. It seems they link ok, but somehow end up at years old posts.
April 21, 2014 at 7:42 pm #181854In reply to: Links on BP homepage make no sense
stripedsquirrel
ParticipantIt seems it is partially fixed. 5 out of 8 links go to the correct pages, the other 3 still go to outdated forum topics….
Who is responsible for the BP.org site? Can they also please improve the BP plugins repository, i.e. make it filterable (BP version compatibility, when last updated, ratings etc.)?

ModeratorHave you tried asking in the bbPress support forums?
https://bbpress.org/forums/April 19, 2014 at 9:31 am #181737In reply to: WP Multisite with BP or BP on its own?
DennisBarkerCV
ParticipantThis sounds like something that can be achieved without multisite.You can use Buddypress Groups and bbPress running as a forum for each group to achieve the discussion / chat.
Each project could become a BuddyPress Private Group with its own forum / docs.
If you want a seperate blog for each project then that would require multisite,but one blog categorised by project could achieve the same thing without the additional comlexity.

jillsessa
Participant1. I updated from 1.9 (latest version) to 2.0.
2. The error seems to be happening with Paid Memberships Pro. The PMPro integration has been problematic and I have support requests in with them, but think it might be time to look for another solution to both lock down content and create a paid forum. (any suggestions on that front are welcome, too)April 18, 2014 at 3:43 pm #181678In reply to: Buddypress groups url points to forum

ParticipantEverything was working fine till I decided to change the howdy at the bar. …. It happens with only a particular theme.
@kingdgm Changing howdy in toolbar shouldn’t have appended forums after the group’s URL. What theme are you using?April 18, 2014 at 3:35 pm #181677In reply to: Another Site for Support

April 18, 2014 at 7:54 am #181635In reply to: Google tab is showing an a href link
@mercime
Participant@foxden-vixen It might just be that the theme author needs to update the theme to be compatible with the latest WP and BP versions. As we have no access to the premium theme, best place to ask is the theme’s support forums or contact theme author.
April 17, 2014 at 8:56 pm #181615In reply to: [Resolved] How to edit groups using css
@mercime
Participant@jonbie initial scan of the theme looks like it’s using the buddypress.css I pointed to above. So check if adding !important in your style works.
e.g. #buddypress .activity-stream {background-color: #fff !important; }If the !important does not work, best place to ask is at the theme’s forums where you should be able to get support for your purchase since we have no access to the premium theme. Good luck.
April 17, 2014 at 4:23 am #181537In reply to: Buddypress roles
laura.lee
ParticipantI am not using BuddyPress for a forum. I am using BuddyPress for only volunteer groups on my website. I am just getting started with that. I tried to control access to the Group Page by WordPress Member Role… and running into issues. I see that persons want role control for reasons probably like mine. My site is a team membership site, it is not open to the general public. It’s not the vision of a community forum that I think persons are trying to force from their own vision of what a BuddyPress site “should be like”. π It’s like they are trying to force a square into round hole thinking that there should be no admin management by WordPress user role. π They’re thinking of an “open community”… and this is a closed community. If persons registered to my site and went to become member of a team in my team group… they would mess up my whole site and all of my volunteer structure. Not just anyone can join a volunteer team in my site.
So, enough said about why the BuddyPress vision of everyone is equal and should have power on a hosted website hosted by an individual for a specific cause… just is not a conducive philosophy to my website and my group creation.
But, here is a plug-in. I have reasons why it conflicts a bit with other things I am using… and I am not ready to implement this. But, check it out please…

– BuddyPress group as Permission Group
is an option on both the free and pro version of Permit Plus.

Can Press Permit Pro do everything Role Scoper can do?
Press Permit Pro introduces some important new features, including custom post statuses,- BuddyPress group role assignments and bbPress compatibility
. For most sites, it is a functional equivalent to Role Scoper, with major improvements in UI and performance. A few of Role Scoper’s more obscure features are not currently provided by PP Pro:
HTTP Authentication for feeds
Supplemental roles and restrictions for links defined in wp-admin/link-manager.php
Customization of NextGEN Gallery editing permissions
-
Group membership requests and recommendations (but supplemental roles can be assigned to BuddyPress groups, inheriting any membership control)
Role assignment for limited content date range (but membership in custom-defined permission groups can be date-limited)http://presspermit.com/extensions/

I haven’t tried these… I am not far enough along in my website construction. Plus, sadly, the role scoper has group request and add… the new version doesn’t… and I am as stubborn as a horse lead to water that won’t drink… when asked to give up a feature I LOVE!! π I don’t want to give up that group feature I would lose from Role Scoper. So, I have not migrated.
Here’s some solutions for you that you can try, that I have read about.. but I have not tried myself yet.
**The author of these plug-ins ought to be a multi-millionaire… but lacks in sales and marketing skills. π But, I’m helping him out here for free. lol
Blessings!
Cheers!

April 17, 2014 at 1:15 am #181525In reply to: Lost admin access after 2.o update
Texrat
ParticipantOk, some more details…
I was able to get in by way of another (generic) admin account I had set up. I can now see my texrat account had WP role set to “no role for this site” on the profile edit page. However, looking at the User list, it says “Spectator” for WP role and forum role (I should be Keymaster for the latter), which is the default *forum* role for bbPress. So maybe bbPress is the interfering plugin in my case?
Anyway, I’m fixed now.
Also, all of our bbPress members who did not have any forum role assigned yet now show as Pending.

ParticipantIt is not the only thing that is wrong.
The main functionality links (!) on the BP homepage (!!), like Profiles, Groups, Settings etc. all go to a single random post in the forum that has a related tag.
Are these new version bugs?

ParticipantFigured it out π For anyone else trying to move breadcrumbs, here’s what I did.
In stylesheet added
#bbpress-forums div.bbp-breadcrumb { display:none; }In my bbpress.php file added
<div class="breadcrumbs"><?php bbp_breadcrumb(); ?></div>April 11, 2014 at 9:35 pm #181149godavid33
ParticipantTo answer my own question, first:
//Get friends Loop do_action( 'bp_before_activity_loop' ); if ( bp_has_activities( bp_ajax_querystring( 'activity' )."&scope=friends") ) : $friends_activites = $activities_template->activities; endif; do_action( 'bp_after_activity_loop' ); //Get personal Loop do_action( 'bp_before_activity_loop' ); if ( bp_has_activities( bp_ajax_querystring( 'activity' )."&scope=just-me") ) : $personal_activites = $activities_template->activities; endif; do_action( 'bp_after_activity_loop' );Then:
$activities_template->activities = array_merge($personal_activites,$friends_activites);Then loop:
<?php while ( bp_activities() ) : bp_the_activity(); ?> <?php bp_get_template_part( 'activity/entry' ); ?> <?php endwhile; ?>There might be a little I’m leaving out. If you view my profile and look at some of my forum activity you can probably find the whole code snippet. Too tired to post all of it.
April 10, 2014 at 11:29 pm #181110In reply to: Error: Missing argument for bp_modify_page_title()
jeffacubed
ParticipantI can also confirm that @k8peterson ‘s elegant solution to change:
elegant_titles()
to…
wp_title()
works with a child-themes header.php for Elegant Themes (in my case, a child-theme of Divi) in resolving the ‘missing argument 2 & missing argument 3’ error(s) relative to the page_title $variables. I’m not 100% of any negative/unexpected implications of doing this in ET – but I’ll keep my eyes open to any ‘unexpected spooky weirdness’. I’ll share a note about k8peterson’s fix for bp w/ Elegant Themes in the ET’s user-forums.
