In reply to: Multiple BBPress forums for BuddyPress group
Technoshaman
ParticipantI’m working with Gabor and have a complementary question.
In Using bbPress 2.2+ with BuddyPress I read in the “Migrate BP Discussion Forums to bbPress” section that bbPress has a bunch of cool features that BP Discussion Forums doesn’t. Isn’t one of those features that a BP group using bbPress can have multiple forums?

ParticipantBecause the forums inside buddypress only work for buddypress groups. If you want a global forum, you will have to install bbPress as well.

ParticipantHi @mercime
Thanks. – i just downloaded the db via phpmyadminWe are running a BP default child theme – would i simply remove it from the theme files?
How about the link to ‘read more’ for a forum post showing up in the activity stream. Is that also done in the theme files – as opposed to settings?
Best regards

ParticipantYes BP Activity Plus works well. Thanks. (sorted a recent hiccup – it was just a silly mistake by me!)
Possible other options include rtMedia https://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress-media/ and previously there was buddypics.
Communication, now, with photos/video etc is just exploding-its now just a huge part of online social interaction.
While i am truly appreciative of the countless developers and whole open-source eco-system that produces the plugins – sometimes developers, even commercial developers, move on to something else and the particular plugin does not get upgraded or does but months later.
Technically also as BP Activity Plus puts uploads into its own bpfb folder the links will not persist if the plugin is deactivated.
For niche functionality perhaps this is not so important but for a major functionality like say photo uploads my two cents is that it might be worthwhile for buddypress (as social interaction is its core) to have it built in. Its just to future proof it.
Am not talking about 1.82 but say aim for after 1.90
The p2 theme which i suspect the core devs might use quite a bit is a reasonable functioning template
(However, all this could be hugely difficult with Buddypress – I just haven’t a clue )
If it was in my hands (now i really am getting way above myself here) I would add “Add Media” and Map/Location (my p2 example – at http://trulysuperb.com/
Anyway I will put something up on the trac.
While i’m here – thank you @mercime for the huge lots of help in this forum and the wp forum over the years.

I can’t recall it but I have seen this issue on the forums before when it dealt with importing members and not respecting the default profile visibility. Maybe a search through the forums will help and if I am not wrong it was resolved so maybe doing a search can help. If not perhaps another volunteer will provide you a better solution. Good luck!August 31, 2013 at 3:56 am #170671In reply to: BuddyPress Registration Page Not Working

Have you tried activating a known theme that works with BuddyPress like Twenty Twelve or bp-default? This has been covered on the forums before on many occasions so do a search for similar topics. If after activating a known theme that works with BuddyPress and you still have an issue then let us know. More than likely your issue is related to your theme.August 30, 2013 at 4:14 pm #170665In reply to: Would anyone use Video Chat and Buddypress?

ParticipantI came across the topic of someone asking about 123flashchat by TOPCMM and felt I should share with you what my experience is so that others don’t get caught.
Anyone considering any of TOPCMM software should spend a lot of time asking questions. I lost $1300.00 plus thousands of dollars in advertising, hardware and other software because TOPCMM was never able to make this software work right.
After only a few months of owning it, I started begging for a refund which never came. When they found my review, they said in public that they were happy to offer me a refund but in email, the keep telling me it’s not possible and that will not happen.
Support is almost nonexistent and they will make you nearly crazy with delays. No matter what ticket type you use, low priority or critical, you still will receive the same support no matter what. You might get lucky and someone will respond in a day, maybe two and often, a week. By then, you will have lost many customers and money if you are advertising as I was.
They also take countless holidays and leave you hanging during those and only sales is on staff during weekends. Their forums are useless and they never give any real answers other than ‘give us your login details and we’ll fix it’. This means you’ll never learn about your server and will always be dependent on them, just how they like it.
From what I can tell, they are on their knees after abusing countless customers and their future is unsure. Be very careful!
I could go on and on and would be happy to share more horrors if anyone is considering this software. Just PM me.
Good luck… now… on to more positive things

ParticipantYou probably ought to have migrated your bbPress group forums to the standalone plugin.

Anyone?

ParticipantThanks for the prompt reply Henry. Yes the components do have their own pages, but my site’s posts are displayed under the activity, groups, or members. I want only the components on their pages. No posts or any other thing whatsoever. I want to be able to control other things like removing the sidebar from the page that displays the FORUMS. Thanks

MemberYour theme’s functions.php file wouldn’t get overwritten with each update. The changes you make to this file will be safe going forward.
A great place to hire a BuddyPress developer would be the BP Jobs Board:

ParticipantPlease do not make duplicate topics that regards the same subject matter as it clutters the forum. @mercime and @modemlooper has already responded on the first topic here:
https://buddypress.org/support/topic/charge-a-fee-to-upload-media/
If their suggestions doesn’t work the only options you have is build this functionality yourself or hire a developer to do it for you. You may want to post on the jobs board:
or here:

Good luck!August 27, 2013 at 3:26 pm #170510jaemaz
ParticipantActually, this functionality is controlled by the BuddyPress Group Email Subscription plugin, but still… anybody? 🙂

ParticipantI just hijacked Mr Jacoby code:
add_action('after_setup_theme', 'remove_admin_bar'); // remove admin bar for users function remove_admin_bar() { if (!current_user_can('administrator') && !is_admin()) { show_admin_bar(false); } } function redirect2profile(){ include_once( ABSPATH . 'wp-admin/includes/plugin.php' ); if($_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] == '/profile/' && is_plugin_active('buddypress/bp-loader.php') && is_user_logged_in()){ //show buddypress user profile page global $current_user; wp_redirect( get_bloginfo('url') . '/members/'. $current_user->user_login . '/profile/'); exit(); } } add_action('init', 'redirect2profile'); ?>Into a plugin for those who don’t know how, or just don’t want to add this code to the functions.php file. you can download it HERE
Removes the admin bar for all users except Administrators and gets “global $current_user;” profile to a page you create called Profile as described by jackreichert
I’ve said it before but I’m going to say it again – you’re a genius Mr Jacoby

ParticipantBP isn’t a forum app, you can’t have non registered users, wouldn’t bother to try hacking it to, however comment posting to blog posts or allowing anonymous topics and replies in bbPress can be allowed.

Participanthey.
yeah i suspected as much sadly.
i know on simplepress forums they get round it by creating a ‘fake’ account for whatever username is typed in as the guest username, i was just hoping somebody had tried to modify it to work on buddypress at some point.
i dont have anything like the skills to try it lol.
ill have a coffee and look at the adding hidden text to the status update field again

ParticipantWill there ever be a resolution to this problem? BP 1.8 with bbPress 2.3.2 on WP 3.6 still sees forum posts in Private groups appearing in non-group members’ activity streams!

MemberI haven’t tried it yet but will give it a go! BuddyDev often replies to support tickets so it might be worth you raising your question with him?

ParticipantHi thanks for the reply.
Have you tried the above?
have you had any luck with anything else ?August 23, 2013 at 3:23 pm #170293Henry
MemberYoast SEO doesn’t work with BuddyPress at all. Going forward this may change but in the mean time Brajesh’s plugin is your best bet. Might be a good idea to ask him for support?

Participantsince i am not a programmer, i don’t know how to implement it and i hope to find anybody here who can help me with that.
To be honest it’s a little outside the scope of this forum which aims to provide help with BP it’s self rather than third party integrations. If you are not a programmer or code savy then you might want to think about hiring a developer for a few hours to implement this for you.
