July 20, 2013 at 9:07 pm #168451In reply to: Dashboard panels
@mercime
Participant@bloodveil Thanks for clarifying what you meant. Site Admins posting in BP forums are looking for front-end solutions e.g. http://buddydev.com/plugins/buddyblog/ to prevent users from accessing/going to the wp-admin area at all. So your post was unexpected π
Populating the dashboard with posts of friends is not an easy task and would require you to create the solution yourself or hiring a developer to do so, if you still want to go that route.
July 20, 2013 at 6:30 pm #168441In reply to: The name of the database for bbPress
@mercime
Participant@doollard something’s getting lost in translation.
– By “database wp11”, do you mean your database prefix is wp11?
– WP/BP versions? bb-config.php is old school BP internal forums. Are you trying upgrade to latest WP/BP versions?
– Confused with “buddypress install the database bp77” and with a few lines after “but buddypress in the database wp11”, please explain what you meanJuly 20, 2013 at 5:20 pm #168436In reply to: bbp_has_topics – hide topics from private grou

KeymasterSorry, I think I misunderstood your question from the beginning. You’re not trying to display topics on the front page of a group. You’re trying to show topics on the site’s front page? If so, what I’ve talked about won’t help at all. π
In looking into bbPress, I can’t really see how a particular forum is associated with a group. So I’m afraid I’m not going to be much help. Maybe someone else knows more about bbPress’s group forum integration?

@mercime
Participant@bardlehel at what point/step during the group creation process does it fail in your installation?
step 1 – click on create a group button
step 2 – new panel – input group name and group description and click to proceed to next page
step 3 – etc.Have you checked out https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

Participant@marketmynovel which forum tutorial did you read so far? Have you checked out https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/ ? After creating a new Page for Forums, did you add the shortcode https://codex.bbpress.org/shortcodes/ ?

ParticipantWhy are you posting here? The thread you have running on WP support says this is a install / hosting issue, just because BP is installed I’m afraid doesn’t mean it’s a BP issue, the WP thread is guiding you as best as can be you must persist in that thread not cross post to forums.

ParticipantNot necessarily related, well in a sense π but John is lead dev for both projects, and although you say it’s BP related as ‘groups’ related I think the problem and fix probably does rest with how bbp is handling things ( could well be wrong though).
July 19, 2013 at 12:20 pm #168335prikid
ParticipantHi Hugo, yes indeed i did. but didn’t know that both supports are related and therefore raised to each other.
Thanks a lot, i’ll follow up with John then.

ParticipantYou have raised this on bbpress support and John has responded so let that thread run.

ParticipantYes, I do want group forums — it’s what I used previously. (I never used site-wide forums.)
So, I confirmed that I have the boxed checked in the Settings > Forums pane as shown in the link you provided. Indeed, when I don’t have it checked, none of the forums show up. (Which makes sense to me, given that I only have forums associated with groups.)
Still, the problem from the update exists — the group forum activity is not being picked-up properly within the forums, though I can see that the activity is still there when looking under “activity”. Seems like something is messed-up in the query to the DB or the DB itself when I added bbpress 2.3.
Any other thoughts?

ParticipantI have been having this exact same problem sporadically. I have searched a ton of forums and have seen many people with the same issue, starting as far back as BPv1.2 and WPv2.9. So far, I have yet to find anyone who has posted a solution to this problem.
Here is what seemed to have caused / resolved my problem:
In the general settings of my WordPress install, I listed the url of my site as http://mydomain.com, but when I linked to the register page I linked to http://www.mydomain.com/register/. Registering with this link produced the page refresh / clearing of passwords error. Removing the www from the address fixed the issue.
Hope this helps someone.

Omar

Participant@omoesiri A very old thread that is probably resolved, as on the other thread/s links removed do help but the forum isn’t an opportunity to drop backlinks around the place.

ParticipantI wish there was some way of contacting users in these forums to see if they ever found solutions to the problems posted.
I am having the exact same problem as the original user.
… and yes, while I understand that ‘protocol’ is to start a new thread, perhaps it’s time the community took an iterative and evolutionary approach to this practice, as the way that search engines work, allowing people to connect when the issues appear IDENTICAL (and yet often never result in the publishing of adequate solutions) would support people to self-correct their own work through better search capacity within the collective intell of the group…
and also too often new threads go weeks and more without adequate response.If anyone actually has found a solution, please post?

Participant@mercine he is saying the link in the email is wrong. it’s not linking to the activity comments on activity but the actual forums reply. Somebody saw his forums reply on the activity page added a comment to it there but the email notification is pointing to the forums not the activity.
is there a way to change that?

Participant@aliona_k you’d need the bbPress plugin to set up Sitewide and/or Group forums in BuddyPress

Participant@neil-mcevoy Not an issue with the BuddyPress plugin. Deactivae the BuddyPress Social plugin and post at plugin author’s forums at https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/buddypress-social
July 14, 2013 at 7:30 pm #168082In reply to: Admin moderated group creation
@mercime
Participant@ssavvy default way is to go to Settings > BuddyPress > Settings – Groups > Group Creation and make sure the Setting is disabled. Then you could set up a Blog Post or Forum Post or Contact form where users who want to create a group can contact you. You set it up for them and make them admins and remove yourself from admin if you prefer.
Or, you could limit Groups per user with http://buddydev.com/plugins/limit-groups-per-user/
