@mercime
ParticipantIโm looking to use the Buddypress avatars within the BBPress forums
BuddyPress avatars should show up in bbPress forums.
WP/BP versions? What theme are you using? What plugins are activated? Have you tried deactivating all plugins except BuddyPress and bbPress then changing to BP Default theme to check if issues are resolved?

ParticipantI have a similar issue. When I click on ‘edit’, I used to get the buddypress group topic edit form. But lately, I get the bbpress edit form. When i click on ‘save changes’ I get an error.
How can I go back to using the buddypress group topics edit form?
Any help would be great.
Thanks in advance.June 6, 2013 at 10:50 pm #165488In reply to: Wishlist Member Integration

BuddyPress has a very ‘internalized’ business model.You can post a call for developers here:

Correct pre BP 1.7 it came bundled, and as of 1.7+ bbpress is separate. Yes you can have group forums, site-wide forums, or both. See the link @synaptic provided.June 6, 2013 at 7:22 pm #165480In reply to: Best setup for this kind of site

ParticipantSo the difference is once it used to come bundled with forums and now you have to install them separately, but you can see have group and site forums or either or correct?
modemlooper
ModeratorIf you are on BuddyPress 1.7 you need bbPress for forums. Do you have that installed?

ModeratorBuddyPress 1.7 + no longer has forums unless you had a previous version with group forums active. I guess you could install an old version activate forums and then upgrade to get the old forums.

Doesn’t matter if you read 100 articles or 1000 articles if the information is outdated. I would take @modemlooper ‘s and @synaptic ‘s advice. Most likely things have changed a lot since the articles you read. It pays to stay on top of things with BP and the best way to do that is reading as much info in the blog, documentation/codex section, and support forums of this very site.June 6, 2013 at 2:12 am #165435In reply to: Best setup for this kind of site

Participanta theme is a completely different thing than bbpress or buddypress. the theme gives the ‘look’ the bbpress and/or buddypress plugins give the functionality

ModeratorBuddyPress no longer bundles bbPress therefore has no forums. You can install bbPress separately. There is a setting in bbPress to have a forum for each BuddyPress group.

@mercime
Participantbut when I click in settings (account, profile or create group) gives error. The system returned with inexistent page
@tuliodc not quite clear. You mean you go to dashboard Settings > BuddyPress > Components/Pages/orSettings and when you click on some sections, you go to a 404 page?I saw that buddypress should work with bbpress, is true?
My question is, what plugins I should install
I recommend that before you install other plugins, double-check that your BP install is in good working condition – e.g. registration ok, can create groups, can add friends, delete activity stream item, etc. If all OK, then read compatibility version, reviews and support forum topics of that plugin to check if plugin is supported and/or updated to latest BP/WP versions.

@mercime
ParticipantWhat BuddyPress version are you using?
Neither shows well the header of the page.
Just to be clear. What do you mean by “header” of the page? The area where the site name/logo shows up? First time I’ve heard that BP caused some issue with the header of the page. Screenshots or better yet, site URL with throw-away username/password.
The thumbnails are very large users in the forums and in the membership widget thumbnails are shown in column
Looks like the BuddyPress stylesheet is not being enqueued. Your theme should have
<?php wp_head(); ?>just before closing</head>in header.php file. Check if it does.June 4, 2013 at 1:39 am #165328In reply to: integrating BP
@mercime
ParticipantI am also not sure what you mean but change to Twenty Twelve theme.
I mean change to Twenty Twelve theme and deactivate all plugins except BuddyPress to check if issue is resolved in a default installation.
If issues are resolved with Twenty Twelve, then it’s not a BuddyPress issue but the Pagelines theme issue or the pagelines-buddypress issue compounded with the BP Template pack plugin (which is no longer used for WP theme compatibility since BP 1.7). In this case, please post at theme author’s forums for resolution.

Participanti dont can post hereโฆ
Do you mean you cannot post in yoo theme’s forums? They’re supposed to provide support for their premium themes and for BuddyPress http://www.yootheme.com/themes/documentation/customizing/integrate-buddypress though it looks like they haven’t updated the information. As mentioned above, BP doesn’t interfere with the layout of your site. We don’t have access to the premium theme. The best place to get assistance is in the theme’s forums.

Participant@natesheridan if you still have this issue, please create a new topic with information about your installation – WP/BP versions, theme/plugins used, etc.

ParticipantI deactivated those plugins and it only made things look worse and still no registration or forum page appeared.
I am also not sure what you mean but change to Twenty Twelve theme. I am using Pagelines theme and will continue to use this theme for my site. I want BP to fit into this theme…it’s important to note that pagelines is a drag and drop theme…the first of its kind so it could be causing some integration issues?
So again, no registration, no forums, no fun ๐
please advise.

ParticipantI have the same problem as @nickharambee , the code from @chouf1 above doesn’t work for me, where in the templates can I decrease the largest number (should be 42?) somewhere in the templates?
second question where in MySQL database can I remove old spammed forum title tags, they unfortunately remained after removing spammy groups.June 2, 2013 at 4:18 am #165202In reply to: ie8 and ie9 big problem

ParticipantKnow that we are all volunteers living in different time zones.
BuddyPress does not enqueue any styles which would affect the layout of your theme. Have you tried checking out Yoo’s forums to see if there are others whose layouts were affected when BuddyPress was installed?
June 1, 2013 at 9:32 pm #165182In reply to: Best way to limit friend requests to avoid spam
SK
ParticipantSending friend requests to folks you don’t know is an issue that all social networks, be they Facebook, Orkut, MySpace, Hi5, or even LinkedIn, have to contend with.
That said, I wouldn’t call it the bane of social networking. What really does a purported “spammer” gain by sending friend requests? Annoyance for certain people that they have received a friend request? Unlikely – the text is preset…the spammer cant even include his/her fake links. Also, most folks are now pretty adept at ignoring such messages. And even if somebody accepts the friend request, what does the spammer gain? What does a “friendship” accomplish?
Comments (WP), forums (bbP) and activity feeds do really really need spam protection. I’m not so sure about the necessity for friend requests.
That being said, how do the big boys manage friend requests?
1. LinkedIn: You can only friend people who are 2 degrees away from you OR whose email address you know. Plus, recipients can mark it as spam.
2. Facebook: Members can control whether they want to receive friend requests at all. Plus recipients can mark requests as spam. Finally, temporary & permanent bans – based on proportion of requests marked as spam.Throttling is neat, cool and easily done – perhaps like bbP, site admin can define the throttling parameters for BP friend requests throttling.
Much more importantly, an Akismet-like solution for activity spam would be nice. I would look for a 2 stage process on the manual “mark as spam” side of things:
1. Member marks another member’s activity as spam (this is really a flag that puts the activity in a basket for admin to see)
2. Admin looks through the basket and marks either as spam (in which case Akismet is notified) or not spam. -
