    Your problem is not specific to BP and therefore out of scope for this forums.
    Here is some general advice.
    Clone the site to a dev site and do all your testing there.
    Turn off any caching plugins, update plugins and theme.
    Switch to a WP theme to check for theme-specific issues.
    Turn plugins off and on to isolate issues.
    Check your logs carefully.
    Try using the Query Monitor plugin – great for all kinds of info re errors and queries.

    Noticed my users are not uploading avatars… checked on my admin profile and there is no ‘add /edit avatar’ there… there is edit cover photo…
    checked in the html / view source.. it’s not there.

    tried changing to 2019 theme – no differnce.

    checked settings – buddypress – have checkbox for allow users to upload avatar..

    disabled a few plugins.. still nothing.

    checked support forums here.. updated php to 7.4.

    still not working.

    WP – 5.5.1
    BP 6.3.0
    Salient theme via themeforest – although fails with 2019 theme
    url: chatyolo.com

    have caches and cdns.. but did purging..

    site health check does show Warning The optional module, imagick, is not installed, or has been disabled.

    but.. cover photos is working.. so assuming it’s something else at this point.

    I did notice other issues similar with avatar in forums via recent posts – not seeing solutions.

    help appreciated please,

    Steve

    Hi,
    I use this plugin for a forum. On my registration form I have the privacy policy with a box that you have to tick in order to register. The link to the privacy policy is also included, but it opens in the same window. Is there an easy way to make sure that when you click on privacy policy, the page opens in a new window?

    [This is a repost as my first post seems to be corrupted, cannot be edited and doesn’t display on the site]

    Hello, I am seeing an issue where the BuddyPress plugin seems to be breaking the forum “Subscribe” / “Unsubscribe” links on bbPress. Strangely, it works if JS is enabled (and therefore XHR is used), but does nothing if JS is disabled and the embedded link[1] is used. It just reloads the same page without actually changing the subscribed / unsubscribed state with no errors.

    Notes:

    • I have tested this with all other plugins disabled.
    • Disabling the BuddyPress plugin causes both to work correctly.
    • Tried enabling / disabling all combinations of Buddypress bp-components with no effect.

    I upgraded both plugins and PHP to the latest versions:

    PHP: 7.4.10
    Wordpress: 5.5.1
    Theme: Divi 4.6.5 (tried others like twentytwenty 1.5)
    bbPress: 2.6.5
    BuddyPress: 6.3.0

    Questions:

    • Are there any known issues I should look into?
    • Any suggestions where to look for debugging? I have WP_DEBUG enabled, but nothing useful in logs. I have tried using Query Monitor plugin, but its a bit unclear where to start looking.

    NOTE: I am new to WordPress and its plugin architecture, but have extensive HTML/CSS/JS/bash shell experience and am comfortable in PHP.

    Thanks in advance!

    Jonathan

    Hi there,

    I found out that the activity stream doesn’t show forum activity when the group is set to private. Is there any way around this?

    Scenario: BB Press + BuddyPress (well, Buddyboss, technically) Site has multiple forum topics.

    I have a “Political” forum. Since most of the topics are divisive, I want to exclude all topics in the “Politics” from going to the BuddyPress activity feed.

    All of the Forums will still work the same way, I just don’t want the topics in that forum, or the responses to the topics to be shown in the Activity Feed.

    Is there a snippet I can add that will exclude those topics?

    Hello BuddyPress community,
    I am working on customizing Buddypress and would like to modify some structures.

    I followed some tips on this forum, for example, to change the structure of the members page:

    I copied this file: bp-templates/bp-nouveau/buddypress/members/members-loop.php
    in my theme folder: my-child-theme/buddypress/members/members-loop.php

    So I modified the file in a few lines to try, but any changes are not applied.

    Am I wrong?

    if you can contact This Guy he may be able to help you. I have no expertise whatsoever – he wrote the Networks + plugin & it does work. He was always most helpful to me. Anyway all the best – i just check in on this forum occasionally – if i can offer help i try to as when i was interested many (including busy developers) helped me.

    Thanks for the links! I checked them out. Looks like the Networks+ plugin website is no longer online. I have tried the BP Multi Network Plugin but, this hasn’t changed the behavior at all.

    It does not appear that there is any issue with having separate users per sub site, but the page that shows the recent activity shows activity for the whole network. When I go to select all users it even shows the correct number of users for that specific subsite but then the page loads and it loads everything lol.

    I was hoping there was some type of hook I could use to only show activity for users that belong to the subsite.

    Side note: Wow valuser you have been on these forums for quite some time!!

    Entries on the forum are disappearing. In other words, I could see those entries a few days ago (when logged in as a user called “John”), but today I cannot see those entries any more (I am logged in as the same user “John”)

    However, I can still see those entries under the activity menu (from the backend i.e. when logged in as “Admin”)

    Any idea why this is happening?

    How to stop this from happening?

    Thank you.

    You could put the questions in the Group Description field.
    Or, if the group has a forum, you could create a sticky topic that they will see when they open the forum.
    Any other approaches will require writing code – code that is based specific parameters that are TBD.

    it seems the very problem exists on this buddypress website.

    for example:
    page one shows replies..
    https://buddypress.org/members/vapvarun/forums/replies/

    BUT. when you want to go to page 2..

    BuddyPress

    it redirects to the homepage..

    anyone has a fix for this please??

    BP Version: 6.3.0
    WP Version: 5.5.1
    Theme: Avada 7.0.2

    Site link: https://mrkhconnect.co.uk/

    The menus at the top of the BuddyPress pages – i.e. Profile & Notifications – are displaying the HTML but none of the formatting. Hence the pages are a mess and unusable by our members.

    All other pages display correctly (inc. BBPress Forums page) so can only conclude this is a BuddyPress problem.

    Any ideas?!

    My WP version is 5.4.2
    My BuddyPress version is 6.3.0

    I’m currently trying to figure out how I can get @-mentions in blog post comments to integrate with the buddypress activity and notifications systems. The most recent comments of #4046 claims notifications should be sent for @-mentions in blog posts at the very least, but I can’t seem to get it to work. Other threads asking this question point to this ticket claiming it’s an unimplemented feature, so between what the forums say and what the ticket comments say I can’t tell if that’s actually how it’s supposed to work or not.

    So my question is, is sending notifications for @-mentions in blog posts supported in BuddyPress? And if so, is this feature currently working?

    Hi @zmatczak

    BuddyPress uses bbpress for its forums so you will likely have more success asking over on bbpress.org
    Hopefully someone there has the answer.

    Hello,

    For what we want on our website its necesarry to have only private groups created by the users. I did a lot of reading about this but all forum post and information is over 8 years old regarding this matter.

    We need this because people will discuss personal en private information in the groups. To make it as simple as possible we look for a way to make the group creation like its only possible to create a private group.

    (it would be awesome if admin can create public or hidden groups)

    So, what do we have to do to remove the creation settings for hidden and public groups for our visitors/members? and ofcourse that it keeps working!

    Its not only removing the code form a file we think but also the setting that the private group is marked to get installed.

    Sorry for any bad english

    Regards

    Jap

    Because a lot of people search for this i post my sollution here.

    To have some pages of buddypress with a sidebar and some not you can do this! copy page.php into a new file and call it buddypress.php. Then upload it to your childtheme folder.

    Then where the sidebar is called change the get_sidebar() into:

    <?php

        if ( is_page( array( 'spreekkamers', 'forums', 'activiteiten', '0' ) ) ) :
            get_sidebar();
        endif;
    ?>

    In this array you can write the names of the pages you want to have a sidebar shown.

    For the my profile page I used page id 0 because that was the only possibility to get the sidebar on the profile page. This is because its connected to the members page. I did not want a sidebar on the memberspage.

    Then a little of css will make the site look good again.

    In my case it was this css, because it was only about one page:

    body.page-id-3139 div#primary {
        max-width: 100% !important;
        width: 100% !important;
    }

    Thank you vapvarun for pointing me to the right way!!

    Hello,

    After reading I think all of the forum post about this matter till ten years ago the issue I have is driving me nuts.

    I want to have the possibility to remove the sidebar on certain buddypress pages. Especially from the members page.

    So first I went into the page in the wordpress dashboard and switched the setting no sidebar on. When the page is not connected to a buddy press page the sidebar is gone. But, when i connect it to a buddypress page like members then the sidebar is back. I tried several setting, like full width, no sidebar, etc but everytime I make it a buddypress page in the buddypress settings the sidebar is back.

    Then I tried to make a child theme. I did put the buddypress nouveau part in the child theme, copied the members/index.php and members/members-loop.php into the sidebar. I saw this in the buddypress forum off two years ago. Then when editing the files, there is not a call to a sidebar so i cannot remove it.

    The index.php looks like this:

    <?php bp_nouveau_before_members_directory_content(); ?>

    	<?php if ( ! bp_nouveau_is_object_nav_in_sidebar() ) : ?>

    		<?php bp_get_template_part( 'common/nav/directory-nav' ); ?>

    	<?php endif; ?>

    	<div class="screen-content">

    	<?php bp_get_template_part( 'common/search-and-filters-bar' ); ?>

    		<div id="members-dir-list" class="members dir-list" data-bp-list="members">
    			<div id="bp-ajax-loader"><?php bp_nouveau_user_feedback( 'directory-members-loading' ); ?></div>
    		</div><!-- #members-dir-list -->

    		<?php bp_nouveau_after_members_directory_content(); ?>
    	</div><!-- // .screen-content -->

    	<?php bp_nouveau_after_directory_page(); ?>

    the only reference to the sidebar is <?php if ( ! bp_nouveau_is_object_nav_in_sidebar() ) : ?>

    When I delete this it breaks the website.

    Now I am stuck on this. I think it is not that diffucult but some way some how i cannot find the way to remove the side bar.

    So please… please can someone point me in the right direction?? I use the Astra theme!!
