In reply to: Best invitation/sign-up code plugin?
Florence
ParticipantThere’s no code field showing up on my registration page. I have used BAW before in combination with S2members, and it worked just fine. I posted about this in the wordpress support forum, but I didn’t get a reply.

@mercime
ParticipantNo, it is 3.5 not 3.5.1
Then you should upgrade to WP 3.5.1 which includes bug fixes and compatible with BP 1.6.4. https://codex.buddypress.org/developer/releases/
Is there a problem with the BP and the permalink structure having index.php in it?
@magnuscreed Yes there is. You have to remove that index.php from permalink structure with BuddyPress. I’ve never hosted on Windows server, maybe the following info may help.

For any issues re above, please start a new topic. Marking this as resolved.

ParticipantHello,
That worked great. I will read up further on how to set up the forum functionality.
An eventual goal is to work on adding some custom functionality to the user profile page, is there a recommended documentation section that reviews this? I was wading into the documentation area, but not sure what codes / fields I should be looking for at this point.

@mercime
ParticipantBP 1.7 trunk is not actively supported in this forum at this time. Having said that, Testbp.org is running WordPress 3.6-bleeding, BuddyPress 1.7-bleeding, and bbPress 2.3-bleeding
February 6, 2013 at 9:20 pm #152531In reply to: Forums listing on forums page badly formatted
@mercime
Participant@scorpiouno unfortunately, your theme’s styles have overwritten the default forum styles that are enqueued by the bbPress plugin. For example, if bbPress is activated using the Twenty Twelve theme, the forums are styled as expected http://testbp.org/groups/buddypress-testers-614548248/forum/
Initial scan of your forum shows some style corrections you can add to the BOTTOM of your theme’s style.css file:
#entry #bbpress-forums ul {
margin: 0;
}
#entry #bbpress-forums ul li {
margin-left: 0;
list-style-type: none;
}
p.bbp-topic-meta img.avatar {
display: inline-block;
width: 14px;

February 6, 2013 at 7:34 pm #152521In reply to: group forums conversion and styling
intimez
ParticipantGood to hear the styling can be passed over from the current groups forum into the new bbpress plugin. Thought it would be stuck with the site wide forums style. Thanks @mercime
February 6, 2013 at 7:15 pm #152517In reply to: group forums conversion and styling
@mercime
Participant@intimez the difference is that the internal BP/bbPress group forums are table-based while the bbPress sitewide and group forums are table-less. If you’ve customized the look of your group forums, you’d just need to port over any customization to the table-less ones in the group area.
February 6, 2013 at 4:38 pm #152500In reply to: Buddypress Group Forums issue
@mercime
Participant@chrchcol sorry, I cannot replicate the issue. The only times I’ve seen reports of such errors was in older BP versions where you install group forums via old Settings > BuddyPress > Forums which is not in the current instructions for installing the group and sitewide forums
– Did you by any chance use a webhost script like Fantastico/Softalicious/etc. to install your WordPress? If so, start from scratch and re-upload WP manually, i.e., via s/FTP etc
– Check on the off-chance that you have a bb-config.php file in the root of your WP install (same level as your wp-config.php) and delete it.

@mercime
Participant@chrchcol since you have a new installation, follow the updated instructions at https://codex.buddypress.org/user/setting-up-a-new-installation/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/
February 5, 2013 at 6:23 pm #152445In reply to: bbPress menu: parent not highlighting
Mitesh Patel
ParticipantThanks @ubernaut. Yes, that’s a nice idea, but I do want to use site-wide forums.
The page structure is like this, but with more pages
Home
About
Community
-Forums
-Groups
-Activity
ContactAnyway, I don’t think it’s going to be possible without some devine intervention :), as I noticed in testbp.org site, the ‘discussion’ menu is highlighted only when you select it (the page is forum-index). When you go any deeper (select a forum or a topic), the highlight get’s lost, so the issue is, the custom menu is not able to acquire/implement the hierarchy info, which may or may not have been provided by bbpress itself.
The same problem is there with the link you posted as well. On the other hand, all the buddypress menus and sub-menus and sub-sub-menus can correctly highlight the parent ‘community’ page. So, it’s a bbPress/forum specific issue.

Ben Hansen
Participanti could be wrong but i don’t think you actually want to create a page for site wide bbpress forums only for the group forums if you are using them. As you can see here:
the parent menu item should be highlighted on that page as it should be for all sub menu items none of our buddypress pages are children of our community “page” which is actually just our members page.
February 5, 2013 at 2:07 pm #152429In reply to: Buddypress building shortcode
@ChrisClayton
ParticipantI assume the errors in your div html are because of the forum software and they are fixed in your code?
The only things I can think of are…
- it doesn’t like the iframe
- another filter is messing with it
I’ll have a closer look at it in an hour or two and play around with it and get back to you.
On a sidenote: BuddyPress provides something out of the box for what you require… if you paste in the url to the youtube video in the activity content – it should automatically embed it. Are you certain you require the shortcode?

ParticipantSo ‘friend’ hasn’t actually made an attempt to work this up or if so how far did they get?
This does smack a great deal of treating the forum as a coding service!
It may be an idea to wait for 1.7 to be released then this process will be a whole lot easier.
fwiw hasn’t ”Continuum’ already been packed by @mercime?
Yep it has, OP you really need to check these things first, you should have checked the BP codex first you would have seen the link to the guide with all the work done already for you.

I would suggest that you also post at s2member’s WP forum to report this issue with current BP version so they can look into it and fix it https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/s2member

@mercime
Participanthow to migrate total content from buddypress to wps with out disturbance to users and members of the website
@indirakrishna if that is your goal, then the best place to ask at their forums re migration tools, if any, from BP to WPS https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/wp-symposium
Good luck. -
