    I deactivated bbpress, individually disabled each group forum (forum remained functional), then reactivated bbpress, and found that the two group forums were still present.

    My only option is to manually insert the forums into the database. Any clues for me?
    I’ll show my work if I succeed.

    Update: The two groups aren’t visible in the wp_bb_forums table. I’m SQL illiterate, what does this mean?

    No. I’ve checked and there isn’t a single setting that any of these don’t have that the two do. It’s bizarre. Funny thing is that one of the forums included in the main installation has ” Enable discussion forum” unchecked.

    I created a test group. That did not appear in the main forums. Should it?

    Would by best bet be to re-install bbpress somehow?

    Depends. You might have set some groups to public and thus have public forums while you set up the others as private groups which then have respective private forums.

    How is it that I’m on the buddypress actual forum and no one, not even the creators of this plugin have an answer for me. I don’t know if anyone knows my company, but I could hire some Buddypress developer to figure this out for me. You guys built this code, how is it possible there is no answer for this? It’s not logic!

    Thanks,
    Actually i think that your code should work and that my problem may be not where i thought. problem.
    When i use
    define(‘BP_GROUPS_DEFAULT_EXTENSION’, ‘forum’ );
    it works but when i put it in a function like that, nothing happens:

    function redirect_to_forum(){
    define('BP_GROUPS_DEFAULT_EXTENSION', 'forum' );
    }
    add_action('wp','redirect_to_forum');

    So, i think that’s why nothing happens when i try to add your code.
    Do you know what’s wrong with my function ?

    If you want to use the bbPress plugin instead of the bundled forums in BuddyPress, try these steps:

    1. Login to the WP admin dashboard, navigate to “Settings > BuddyPress“. Enable the “Discussion Forums” component and save.
    2. Navigate to “Settings > BuddyPress“.  Click on the “Pages” tab.  Under “Discussion Forums”, select “None” and save.
    3. Navigate back to “Settings > BuddyPress“.  Make sure you’re on the “Components” tab. Uncheck the “Discussion Forums” component and save.

    Edit your “Community” page in WordPress, add the shortcode:

    [bbp-forum-index]

    On a separate line and without any special tags or characters around it.  If you’re using the Visual Editor, change to “Text” mode to ensure there are no special tags.

    See if that helps.

    Thanks, JJJ.

    Apparently, though, not if you drop the _bb… tables of the database 😛

    It’s all good though. Had backup of db and imported tables again.

    I got it working. Just thought I’d post here to update.

    In the registration form (whether you’ve copied/pasted it or created a custom file to call), you need to do two things:

    First, change your opening “ tag to this: `<form action="” name=”signup_form” id=”signup_form” class=”standard-form” method=”post” enctype=”multipart/form-data”>`

    Second, add this php before the form: `global $bp;
    if(empty($bp->signup->step))
    $bp->signup->step=’request-details’;` (Wrapped in php tags, of course.)

    If my code disappears (as it has been), you can find the solution here: http://buddydev.com/support/forums/topic/move-registration-to-index-page-2/

    Ok, thanks for your reply.

    Is there a way to import bbPress forums into BuddyPress? I was thinking I’d just use bbPress for the time being, and then make the switch over once there’s a stable version.

    With 1.6.1 you need the bbPress 2.2.2 plugin with certain settings enabled or disabled.

    If you are struggling as to the right combination, have a view of our step by step video guide here:

    Paul,

    I could not find the Group Forums component. When I logged in, I saw that there was an update for Buddypress, so I updated, figuring that might help. Instead, it gave me a similar Function error (Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_theme() in /home/fullcirc/public_html/directaccess.us/wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-core/admin/bp-core-functions.php on line 242) when I tried to access the Dashboard. Now I have two problems! 🙁

    I am also a bit annoyed finding out this is not a built-in capability of BuddyPress as after months of developing and tweaking my site, I’m finally ready to launch only to hit this huge roadblock during user registration beta testing!

    Similar to the above, my site is a DJ and fan based members only community, which I have an approval mechanism setup and account registration types to be approved as a DJ. In order to approve new DJ profile submissions efficiently I need admins to easily be able to review profile details to see if it meets all criteria before approving.  I thought I would be able to manage this simply in the WP admin panel having purchased the BP User Account Type Pro plugin and using BP registration options, but apparently not so.  And judging by the fact that noone’s really responded to the requests above I don’t anticipate getting an an answer anytime soon, but per chance someone is willing or able to assist or point me in the right direction, would appreciate any help or hacks I might be able to use to accomplish this as soon as possible!!

    I know some html, have been learning css on the fly, and no real working knowledge of php, but clever enough to have figured most things out with firebug up to this point.  Really hoping there’s something already developed out there though. Other than this forum the folks I’ve spoken to about WP haven’t got any knowledge of BuddyPress so I’m gonna be pretty disappointed if I can’t get an any help from my only resource here and have to shell out $$ to pay someone to develop something that should be a given based on the BuddyPress framework, conceptually speaking.

    Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!!

    If you’re using bbPress 2; as part of using that, did you disable the so-called “Group forums” component in BuddyPress?

    modemlooper

    This is not tested but you don’t want the define to run if a member is not a member of a private group.

    if ( bp_group_is_visible  &&  bp_is_group_member() ) {

    define(‘BP_GROUPS_DEFAULT_EXTENSION’, ‘forum’ );

    }

    You can build it yourself, if you wanted. But i’d recommend you migrate to using the bbPress 2 plugin https://codex.buddypress.org/buddypress-site-administration/migrating-from-old-forums-to-bbpress-2/

    Hi @djpaul,

    Im using “group forums” with buddypress 1.6.1 and WP 3.4.2.

    I was wondering the above thing. Is it possible to have it in the “group forums”.

    Cheers

    Sorry, here is what i tried :

    function redirect_to_forum() {
    global $bp;
    if( bp_is_group_members() )
    define(‘BP_GROUPS_DEFAULT_EXTENSION’, ‘forum’ );
    }
    add_action( ‘wp’, ‘redirect_to_forum’ );

    #146746

    If you didn’t convert them over using: Tools > Forums > Import, then you’ll be fine.

    Alright I managed to get it going after deleting and re-creating the page. Next problem is how come my forum isn’t showing properly with my child theme??

    What steps do I need to make to create my forum to work with my child theme?
