    Hi guys, if anyone could point me in the right direction, that’d be really great! :)

    I’m not sure, but is this what you mean: https://codex.buddypress.org/getting-started/installing-group-and-sitewide-forums/

    It sounds like you have both bbPress installed (maybe as a WP plugin?) as well as buddyPress Discussion Forums enabled (which are a watered-down version of bbPress). Any insight on your ‘custom install’ would be quite helpful.

    I just got done doing this last night with one of my sites. It was PAINFUL because I created a few users first before doing the import. This unfortunately led to me having to renumber a LOT of records that linked posts (including activity) to individual users. For what it’s worth, here are the tables that I moved using phpMyAdmin that seemed to get everything I was looking for:

    Assuming a prefix of wp_ for your database (mine was not and yours shouldn’t be either so change as necessary):

    wp_commentmeta
    wp_comments
    wp_bp* (everything here was critical for activities, existing friendships, etc.)
    wp_usermeta (this was critical to get the users to show up in the members list)
    wp_users (duh)

    The big question is why did you want to not bring the users over? Everything you mention initially is tied to a user: activity, forum posts (unless you just want the empty forums themselves, that’s easy) and even groups (someone had to create them). What are you really trying to accomplish and maybe we can help with a little better understanding :-)

    == the sidebars are showing up under the main content ==

    Hmm, fixing alignment about should have resolved that. I’ll check your site in a moment.

    == what is the relevance of the M Flora Peterson picture ==

    Sorry about that :-/ I was comparing the codes of both Akita and Alyeska https://buddypress.org/community/groups/installing-buddypress/forum/topic/customising-alyeska-theme-for-buddypress/ which had that image and forgot to delete it from code posted. I’ve deleted it above now.

    == page heading, members bar and second divider are also out of place ==

    Did you add the styles from codex page I referred to above? That would have taken in the horizontal overflow of the item and sub navigation elements.

    @zillabuggs first time I heard about this issue in the Group Forums. Is bbPress plugin (Sitewide Forums) also activated? WP/BP versions? What theme are you using? What plugins are activated in your installation?

    It’s purely voluntary – with reasonably regular input from one of the core developers.

    People will answer questions that take their fancy, or where they can provide useful feedback (and sometimes when they can’t) — most reasonable questions will get a response within 24 hours or so.

    I’ve given a little feedback on your other question [tbh — including all that info about your setup tends to distract from your question — I know it’s in the forum guide, but just sticking to a minimum stops your post looking intimidating! Don’t tell anyone I said this]

    Here’s a related thread — although, about post urls rather than member profile URLs, in the activity stream. https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/changing-wordpress-permalinks-breaks-old-buddypress-activity-updates-links/

    Storing the post URL independent of the permalink structure, is a simple enough fix. It’s harder to think of a solution that could deal with 3rd party plugins (or manual) changes to the member URL structure (other than the core BuddyPress being enhanced to support a ‘permalink’ settings for BP members / components similar to those applied by WP to posts, categories, etc.)

    @keats18 Per scan of your theme’s HTML structure, you’d need to use the first option, i.e., change 16 template files within the 6 BP folders transferred to your Akita theme folder in server during the compatibility process.

    If you’ve previously changed any of the BP template files in your theme folder, replace all of them for a clean slate by deleting the 6 BP folders in server – /activity, /blogs, /forums, /groups, /members, and /registration – then re-run Appearance > BP Compatibility.

    Download the 6 clean BP folders to your computer hard drive.

    A. At the top of each of those 16 template files I linked to above, replace
    `

    `

    with
    `<?php get_header();
    themeblvd_main_start();
    themeblvd_main_top();
    themeblvd_breadcrumbs();
    themeblvd_before_layout();
    ?>

    I just found solution here:
    https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/making-bp_has_activities-have-a-global-scope/

    But it helps when I go to single member page. When I go to single group page (let’s say called Sport) then it displays last activities of Sport group only while I want to display last 5 activities of all groups.

    @modemlooper Agreed, you are the man. Can’t wait to see it.

    P.S. Potentially a similar issue: https://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/user-activity/

    Some progress in debuging…
    When i insert
    [ sourcecode language=” php ” ][ /sourcecode ]
    and open the post for editing, i get [ sourcecode language=”””” ][ /sourcecode ]
    The word php disappeared and the place is double quoted !

    Then i save these changes and the code cames up, but without colored synthax.
    This is a first step on the right way. Colors are missing but code is showing correctly at 90%
    Single quotes became curly for ex.

    Probably backpress kses filtering.

    I tried to deactivate BP’s filters bp_get_the_topic_post_content wptexturize and bp_get_the_topic_post_content bp_forums_filter_kses, but this changed nothing.

    I posted on the support forum, but it seems still for a long time ago. ;-)

    @keats18 Each theme has a different solution depending on the HTML structure, so you need to start a new topic for your own theme ( as I see you have now https://buddypress.org/community/groups/installing-buddypress/forum/topic/html-changes-for-akita-theme/ )

    Please don’t post big blocks of code here but in pastebin.com, then post the generated URI in your post.

    I would suggest that you do not make a BP component page (like Forum) the parent page of another or other BP component pages (like Groups, Members, etc).

    – I am using a child theme of bp-default theme, a port of apeatling’s design of BP 1.0 BuddyPress theme https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/tags/1.0/bp-themes/bphome/screenshot.png
    – Also that IS screenshot of the BuddyPress Group Forums new topic page. You can see the Group Name and Group Admins above the forum topic :-)

    But going back to the syntax highlighter, I do see the issue now if I post HTML/PHP code just like yours instead of CSS which I posted above and used lately. I was able to find a work-around by using `[ sourcecode lang=”title” ] the code [ /sourcecode ]` (just remove the spaces before ahd after the brackets) Result: https://mercime.files.wordpress.com/2012/08/bp161-shevolved-php.png

    @mercime Thank you for the screenshots. But I still use the same settings and shorcodes.
    I observe that your example is on a bbPress page. My forums are on BP integrated bbPress skills (default install).
    In the past mounth with other html outputs on forum posts, i still observed that bbPress filters and BP filters conflict sometimes.
    I tested also the plugin on another BP 1.6.1 site and got the same wrong output of HTML
    Surprisingly, after inserting mixed code (html+php) with the plugin activated, all html is filterd and gives &gt, &lt and so on. After deactivating the plugin, the whole code shows correctly, without the plugin styles effect, but all is appearing and correctly.
    As soon as i edit the post and register it again, all html is stripped and only the php parts remain.

    So i guess that bbPress (as standalone plugin) filters HTML correctly before and after DB insertion, but not BP.

    @rbasmaji if I recall well from recent forum posts, Custom Community theme needs to be updated. Change to bp-default theme and check if issue is resolved.

    Unless said bbPress plugin specifically notes that it also works with the BuddyPress Group Forums, then no.

    @chouf1 site is private, but I took a screenshot of the group forum topic I made for you as well as the screenshot of the config settings. I post code usually e.g.
    [ sourcecode lang=”css” ] the code [ /sourcecode ]
    or [ php ] the code [ /php ]
    P.S. had to put the spacings between brackets or else it won’t show up here.

    Anyone knows how to do this? I have an idea about where to edit the template file.. but I don’t know what code I should use to generate a link to the latest post..

    Well… I’m running a site that the members would like to know the admin is active on… responding to questions, posts, etc. It would be like coming here and finding the developers never talk on the forums. So, it’s simple… Someone knows 1/2 of the equation to enter my admin account. Just like on here, I know 1/2 the equation to get into your account. I’m not a hacker by any means, but there are others out there who like to do malicious things to sites just for the hell of it. I have customers involved, so if someone hacks my site, that makes me look very bad. That’s all. I just thought I would ask.

    I know in a response you mentioned googling methods to help secure WP. Well, I know from several years ago about making a database edit to the username for the original admin. This was before you could choose the first admin’s username. This made very good sense to me now because now its like you almost need 2 passwords. But now, with the way this is all implemented in BP, and without a work around, changing “admin” to something else is useless.

    The only other thing I can think of would be to just make another account that is an Editor or similar role and only do posts on that. This way they won’t be able to access things like user info, etc.

    Didn’t mean for this to blow up, just thought there might be a simple function to call. thats all :) Thanks for the interest.

    Thanks karmatosed – this was my workaround before coming to the forum for help. I am displaying background images next to each of the Comment, Favorite and Delete text. To have the same text links display on every entry in the activity feed seems slightly redundant to me so wanted to try for images (icons) only.

    This brings me to Roger’s suggestion – CSS image replacement. I thought about hiding the text ‘off screen’ but does this have implications on SEO? Would Google view this as an attempt to ‘hide’ text from the user?

    My ideal solution would be to modify the template directly so that the text links are removed and replaced with images. Not sure if doing this would affect the activity feed’s ajax/js functionality?

    Problem with option 1: the admin will still be active roll on the site… So the new admin account would then be able to be seen. Problem with having the user have admin privileges is someone could still come in and delete any posts, etc.

    When you say edit database directly, do you mean just changing the username? I thought because of the tight integration between WP and BP, the username for BP is the exact field as $user->user_login. So, unless its two different fields, this wouldn’t work.

    I’m seeing that plugin, but its still the same issue I suppose… People will still see the username through hovering over or viewing the profile’s URL…. i.e. your login is modemlooper. Is it not? Mine is synergywp. Everyone knows this, so its just a matter of a malicious visitor getting a password somehow.

    Thanks for the help, but maybe I didn’t properly explain… I don’t want people to be able to see the username, in any way shape or form, of an active admin, but I want the admin to be able to be active in the forums/members list, etc.
